Aman Verma to play baddie in Viraasat

Aman Verma
Aman Verma has been roped in to play Rishabh, one of the leads in Ravi Chopra's lavish family drama, Viraasat, to air on Star Plus, which hits the floors this month. Verma's character will have grey shades from the outset, eventually giving rise to the conflict in the drama.

The cast also has Amar Upadhaya, Pooja Ghai Rawal, Sangeeta Ghosh and Deepak Qazir.

Bad man

Verma has no qualms about playing a negative role. This is going to be the third baddie character in a row for the actor, after the vicious and scheming Abhay Chauhan in Kumkum, Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan; and a blue-eyed devil in Devi (Sony).

Says Verma, "I love to play the devil. The negative streak in any human being comes to me quite naturally. I consciously avoid white characters, where you have to be good and God-like. I find no thrill or excitement in that."

Talking about his character he further says, "I won't call my character in Viraasat out and out negative. He wants to survive under every circumstances, no matter what. I can't reveal anything else as I have been instructed by the channel and production house not to. I have been told that it's going to be the biggest show launched by Star Plus."

Subtle villainy

Aman Verma's association with Ravi Chopra harks back to Baghban, where Verma played the not-so-devoted son of Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini. Says Ravi Chopra, "Aman Verma and Ronit Roy were the only two considered for the role; not Pawan Shankar.

Since Ronit was too busy with his schedule, we got Aman to play Rishabh. His character's subtle villainy will appeal to the audience, as the plot revolves around the conflict between two families. Aman is also doing my film Babul, where he will play Hemaji's younger brother."

A source from the production house says, "This role will surely propel Aman's career. Since he has already worked with the Chopras, it wasn't a difficult task to get this."

Love is a stronger emotion than hate: Ravi Chopra

After proving his mettle on the big screen with super-duper hit "Baghban", starring Amitabh Bachchan and Hemal Malini, filmmaker Ravi Chopra is coming up with a TV soap "Viraasat".
The serial, which will go on air June 12, is being produced by Chopra for STAR Plus and revolves around two warring families. Well-known TV artistes Sangita Ghosh and Rohit Roy play the two lead roles, who are madly in love with each other. They are, however, bound by an age-old enmity between their warring families.

"We always try to give some message through our films and serials, and through this serial, we are trying to propagate the fact that love is a stronger emotion than hate," Chopra told IANS on phone from Mumbai.

"I believe that TV and films are two sides of a coin. We have always made serials for television and I am carrying forward the legacy of my father who made serials like 'Mahabharat'," he added.

Most of the soaps today, are launched in a big way and promise to provide quality entertainment to viewers, but after a while, they meander away from the main theme and consequently lose their sheen.

However, Chopra says he will not compromise on quality. "We won't compromise on quality under pressure because we have already shot 40 episodes of the serial. To maintain the quality, you need a good bank and we have it," he said.

Chopra said that the entire cast of "Viraasat" had been selected according to the requirements of the characters.

"We make the casting according to the character. Everybody's role is interesting and they are not roped in on the basis of their popularity. They are there because they fit into their characters."

This multi-starrer family drama has a strong line-up of some of the most popular faces of the small screen, which include Kiran Kumar, Deepak Quazir, Aman Verma, Amarr Upadhyay, Jayati Bhatia and Pooja Raval Ghai.

The top guns at STAR are hoping "Viraasat" will improve the channel's position in the weekday primetime slot.

"Our currently running successful 9 p.m. show 'Miilee' has reached its logical conclusion, so it is imperative for us to launch a show, which could fit well into the bigness of primetime and be a through and through entertainer too. With 'Viraasat', that's exactly what we are getting for the viewers," said Deepak Segal, Executive Vice President Content of STAR India Pvt. Ltd. (IANS)

MUMBAI: Star Plus has slotted the BR Films production Viraasat in its 9 pm weekday primetime slot. The serial features Sangita Ghosh and Rohit Roy in the title roles

"Our endeavor is to dole out a classic family entertainer as it goes on to set its own mark, one which has no precedence, and thereby expect Viraasat to help us consolidate the channel's supremacy in the primetime slot after having already done so, successfully in the weekend band" he elaborated further.

Viraasat, would be a multi-starrer family drama that will have a strong line-up of television's popular faces including Kiran Kumar, Deepak Quazir, Aman Verma, Amarr Upadhyay, Jayati Bhatia and Pooja Raval Ghai.
