soyra bai should understand. sai bai is the first wife of shivba. they have been married for a very long time. so, they enjoy good relationship. 2nd not only soyra but saibai too has equal right on her husband . so, she should not feel jealous .

shivba should understand that his both wives has equal right on him. so, he should do justice to both.

Well that is the problem with polygamy and a problem with childhood marriage! In polygamy, no wife feels secure in the household. Saibai was heartbroken when Shivaji was married second time. And Soira, she was but a kid when she was married off -- she is therefore left competing for everything. She will always be compared to Saibai. She will always come second in Shivaji's mind. She could've won over the people with her virtuous behavior, but she is small enough not to understand what is right and what is wrong... and thinks that one has to steal their right by hook or crook. Her immature mind never got time to develop or be moulded. All the time she was left to her devices seething with rage, competing for attention.

^I agree with you, Lady McBeth. But history also tells us that Soyara proved to be a detractor in Shivaji's empire, so I am guessing there was also some inherent weakness in her character.

Amri - I agree with what you are saying. There must've been some inherent flaw with her character. But as per history, she was married to Shivaji at a very tender age ... probably less than 10. At that age children are extremely territorial. They only care about what is mine vs. what is yours. I am just saying that she wasn't mature enough to know the difference between right and wrong. She never got the opportunity to learn values and ethics from her parents. She literally grew up at her husband's house where she had to deal with only her mother-in-law/grand-mother-in-law. And come what may, their behavior can never be as fluid as your own mother/grandmother. They will judge you/critique you more harshly as compared to your own parents. As as she was growing up, all she had to deal with was competition. Some may argue that she could've learned from her surroundings, but then I still think that psychologically, child marriage and polygamy were a main reason for her deterrent behavior. Believe it or not, but Shivaji's personal life was plagued with kitchen politics between his 8 wives ... He loved Sayeebai the most and could never forget her. THAT fueled even more hatred in Soyrabai's mind for Sambhaji, Sayee and Shivaji's son.

^ Absolutely. I guess we are so used to looking at people, especially historical figures in black and white that we tend to forget that they had their own fears and a fair share of deterrents.

^ Absolutely ... Sayeebai was the first wife of Shivaji and by the time he married Soyra, they had enough time to let the bond grow between them ... Soyra was plagued mostly by insecurity.
