ahh no no!! the og story was that Prem and Bhoomi didn't belong to the same cllg. When he got a proposal of Bhoomi, Bhoomi was already a widow back then and before marrying, she talked with him about it and Prem accepted her past.

makers fcked up their story so bad cuz they couldn't think of a reason for personal rivalry

Instead they could have shown Prem and Shalini actually in love with each other and Prem impregnating Shalini but at the last moment on the orders of shobhna Prem ditching her and calling off the weeding and Marrying bhumi nd then Shalini had to abort her child...this could have been a better plot for rivalry
