Your character Satya in Uttaran landed in the show with a bang. Rumours are that he is a villain hell-bent on exacting revenge from the Bundela family. Comment? Satya is a businessman from Dubai who befriends Veer and Icchha during a business deal. I live with my sister and am very fond of her. But when Veer and Icchha accidentally run her over, I am in a dilemma. I am very idealistic as my father taught me to hang on to good friends and never forgive enemies. Veer is my business partner and friend, and now guilty of harming my sister. I am still processing whether I should forgive Veer and Icchha or not. I guess being a soft hearted guy, eventually I will forgive them. Later in the story, they will take on the responsibility of looking after my sister. As for the revenge part, there are many tracks being developed and you will have to wait and watch how my character and story unravels. |
What kind of look and style have you worked out for the character? The look and style of the character is young, subtle and sweet. It is not stuffy or corporate. Satya is a normal, happy-go-lucky guy. He wears denims, T-shirts and all the regular guy attire. We wanted to connect to the youngsters, so we added checked shirts as well, which I am told are very 'in' these days. He doesn't sport glasses and neither does he wear suits at home while he has his morning tea. Thank God [laughs].

What lured you to choose Uttaran as your next project? I had heard a lot about the producers and everyone showered numerous compliments on them. When I met them, I realised that their reputation in the industry is great because of their personality and attitude towards work. We instantly clicked as I enjoy working with like-minded and creative people. As I had worked with many technicians and directors on the show, joining the team was smooth.

Do you have any other offers or plans to do more shows? I have shot for two pilots but will be able to reveal more once the makers want to announce them. I am hopeful that the latest track in Uttaran with Satya should work really well. My last show was Bairi Piya with Colors which did really well and now I feature in the number one show on tv. What else could I ask for? |
Movies are the next obvious step for television actors. Have they ever tempted you? I did get some Hindi films offers earlier but the roles weren't engaging enough. Currently, I have offers for Marathi films which took me by surprise and I find them exciting as well. Being a Maharastrian, I think I should do few Marathi films. I have been asked why don't I do Marathi films, which is why my interest in them is on a all time high right now. Hopefully, when projects work out, I will talk about them. Which would you say has been your best work or best show? Undoubtedly Bairi Piya as the role of Thakur was unlike anything I had ever done and such a villain was never seen before on television. The role was first of its kind as he made no apology about who he was, what he wanted and how he went about achieving it. I think I enjoyed playing the mature role and Ekta [Kapoor] wrote the character superbly. |
Currently, which shows do you enjoy watching the most on television? I like Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa a lot and Dance India Dance too as I love dancing. Among daily soaps, I love Sasural Genda Phool for the freshness. Ragini [Khanna] is fabulously brilliant in the show. I also watch Risthon Se Badi Pratha [Colors] as my friends feature in the show and I find the storyline interesting. Is there any show, currently on air, that you wish you were a part of? Not really. It has been only four months since Bairi Piya went off air, so there hasn't been a show which I would want to be part of. Though, I am glad to be doing Uttaran, I am looking forward to the twists and turns in my character and the story. |
Did you feel Bairi Piya ended prematurely? Yes. I feel the show ended a bit early. It could have gone on for a longer time. It wasn't just me who felt so but the team and many fans who campaigned for the extension of the show but that was not to be. In fact they requested the channel and Ekta to work on Bairi Piya 2. I am proud of having done Bairi Piya and the work I have done in the last year. Reality shows are super hot and the new fad on television. Do they catch your fancy? Some reality shows are fun and I would love to work if some fascinating offer came up. |
What are your guilty pleasures? I don't indulge in sweets or any vices per se but I am a foodie. Any type of cuisine hooks me on. I am a goner when I see non veg food. At times, I have had too much of my fill and paid the price for it too [laughs]. Is your wife Keerti Kelkar working on any project? She wrapped up Choti Bahu a while ago and is looking out for substantial roles. She doesn't want to take up anything and everything that comes her way.
