the TRP charts. Incidentally, the original plan for Uttaran was something else.

But things changed keeping in mind viewer sentiment. The show was supposed to focus on the little girls only for the first 30 to 35 episodes, after which they were supposed to grow up. But the girls were getting popular among audiences and the story went on for a good 250 episodes! "The writing had a lot to do with it. So also the performances of the kids," says Rupali, who's happy with the way things have gone so far. "Finally in the show when the kids were growing up, I was extremely apprehensive. But it all worked out well. Uttaran is a joint effort. You have to work in tandem with the channel."

Rupali and hubby Pintoo Guha are looking at making more shows with different concepts. "Our next show has a social issue, but at the end of the day it is a love story." And while on love stories, Rupali is also looking to direct her second film, which she says, will be a love story. Recently she made the movie Aamras, that focussed on friendship between youngsters.

From childhood, Rupali knew she would be part of movie-making. Being Basu Chatterji's daughter, the inclination for cinema is obvious. But she is very clear about balancing both, TV and Bollywood. She loves both the mediums and is looking to do interesting work in both areas.
