awww Eljay - the said IF ian called the ply wood shop owner from Bangalore. Actually, Roja wanted Nallu's phone no and her evil twin Giri gave her a no. Giri's apartment was getting done then and Giri got confused with the telephone numbers. Roja calls in the morning and asks for Nallu - the unsuspecting ply wood shop guy casually says "avanga illinga" - which can mean any thing - "Nallu is not in /this is not her no" etc., etc., Roja assumes that Nallu is not in and calls after some time - same answer. So Roja wants to know about Nallu's home coming schedule and that is when the shop guy wakes up - tries to say some thing but Roja being Roja shows him a taste of her madness. Finally that guy gets an edge and says "wrong no. ma" Roja has that mad gleam in her eyes and after pointing out the lacunae in his verbal skill says "athai appOve solla maatingalaa??" The vexed shop guy" enge mme solla vittinga??? konja nerathile kirukku pidikka vaichuttingale??" Roja has that satisfied grin "habba da , enakku thozhile athu thaan ppa, innikki jenma sabalayam aachu" Poor fellow must have gone to Rishikesh or some place - Giri's wood work got further delayed - and maddie had a separate session with Giri and Nallu on this. Nallu had a bad tummy ache after hearing maddie's encounter with that shop guy........she promptly changed her No😉

And about "Maal Maruga" Marugan = marumagan / nephew = Murugan is the nephew of Vishnu - Shiva married Parvathy who is Vishnu's sister. The complexion of Parvathi and Vishnu are the same- indicating that they are siblings.

The complexion of Parvathy and Vishnu are the same only in South India. In south Parvathy kaRuppu and Sivan Sivappu. In north Parvathy sivappu and Sivan KaRuppu. In south Murugan has two wives and Vinaayagan is a bachelor. In north Vinaayagan has two wives and Murugan is a bachelor.

Atina very well knows that I am two years older than her.

You have mentioned about Sun theatre. That theatre has become a shopping complex now. I was living in North Boag Road of T.Nagar in 1975 and used to catch Bus No.13 to go to our Office at Chepauk . Of course the same bus stop of what you have mentioned here.

As Amara sir mentioned Murugan is considered a bachelor in North India. At Karthikeya temple in Parvathi hills [ Pune ] entry is banned for ladies as Lord is a bachelor.

Thanks you so much for the colour viLakkam. Miga miga arumai.

@Srima, I always thought Siva was shown as dark because of the poison he drank, but stopped in his throat itself - Nanjundeswarar.

@Amara sir, I saw those words in your kavidhai but thought it was just another way to refer to Murugan. I would never have really thought of those words seriously, but now I had to, because a girl who doesn't speak Thamizh thought I would know Thamizh! However, I do believe that it is never too late to learn.

@Roja, I knew giri and Nallu were involved in this, but couldn't find the exact details and I spent about an hour trying to find the anecdote but failed. Hence the sondha embroidered version!

@Amara sir and Roja, thanks for the explanations. Any Thamizh knowledge of mine has come about because of my own interest in learning more about my language, even though I have never studied the language formally in school or college. As a result, I have asked questions several times and I have always found that people are willing to help, and I feel this is the effect of the language itself. However, I refused to teach Thamizh classes here, because I am not confident enough to do so, but I am thinking of doing some study on my own, and then ... maybe, our Thamizh classes will resume in our city.

@Amara sir, it was so good to see that you were familiar with the place that I mentioned. I feel sorry that so many of the landmarks I remember are fast disappearing from the landscape in Madras. Another landmark from my childhood that has disappeared is the Rajkumari theater in Pondy Bazaar! Oh well, as long as Panagal Park is still there, and Nageswara Rao park, I shall not complain.

@Amara sir, I loved that veppam and thaatpam explanation for Siva and Vishnu, and I am planning to talk about it in my class next week! Thaatpam means cooling, right?

Thatpam+veppam=thatpaveppam enbathu thamizhchchol. Seetham+ushNam=seethoshnam enbathu sanskrit word. Thatpam enbathaRku kuLumai (as you said cooling) enru poruL.

Panagal Park has been renovated beautifully and made open last week. Nageswara Rao park which is in Mylapore Luz Church Road is still there. Many people misunderstand that this park is named after Telugu actor Nageswara Rao. But actually the name is Nageswara Rao Pantulu park. I was in Mylapore also from 1968 to 73. Every sunday along with my friends I used to go to Kamadhenu Theatre in the morning to see all MGR movies and Nageswara Rao Pantulu park in the evening. Every first Sunday evening of the month we will have kavi arangam in that park. Andha vayadhil naan paarppatharku konjam sumaaraaga iruppaen. Athanal ennai elloarum Kavi Ulaga ILavarasan enru azhaippaargaL. Iniya ninaivugaL.

Most of the thamizh old movies I have seen in Rajakumari, Sun and Krishnaveni theatre in T.Nagar.

@ Eljay - nowadays there are these sangamam programmes held in parks. So parks are given a facelift. Rajakumari theater has become a mall. As Amar Sir said Suntheater doesnt exist anymore. Actually GN Chetty road is bare, without trees... enkaNNil raththakkaNNeer...
