All this talk of "kuzhali" reminds me of someone who was my classmate many, many years ago - her name was Vandarakuzhali! My Thamizh skills were minimal then, (how much better are they now? Good question) and I had no idea what her name meant. The bigger question faced by the lecturers was how to address her, and we finally settled on "kuzhali"! Thank God nobody suggested "vandu"!

He started acting in a play called Paanchali Sabatham as Duchaadanan many many years ago...and his friend and mentor Mr Venugopal who was a professor suggested him to change his carreer and AZ listened to him and became a star on the big and small screens. AZ is thankful to this gentlman who made such an impact in his career with this turning point.

However after so many years....he passed away and his wife moved to australia and our AZ Sir lost touch with them.....But a couple days back Mrs Venugopal sent him a long PM after seeing this thread here. Our AZ is so thankful to our IF for making his long time friend to write to him .....It looks like this friend of AZ from aussy is a member in IF.

However I requested AZ Sir to ask his friend's member ID in IF....

Now you have got the id of Mrs.Venugopalan. Professor acted as dhuriyodhanan and I acted as dhuchchaadhanan in Panchaali Sabatham. So I used to call "Karkuzhali" as anni and she used to call me maiththunare!

Antha naatkal thirumba varumaa? Pasumaiyaana antha ninaivugal engal aayulai adhigarikkum.

"Vandar kuzhali" means Vandugal moikkum koondalai udayaval. Adavathu, pookal sooduvathal manam petra - vandugal pookkalthano enru enni emanthu moikkinra - koondalai udayaval enbathu porul.

Amarasigamani will vouch for the correctness of the meaning.

"Vandar kuzhalal Umaiyal poongarathal varudum Pathan..." enru oru pazhaya MKT Bhagavathar Pattu undu !!(See..you can guess my age now!!!)
