They already have a reason for Suraj supporting Imli, it's what Suraj told Imli at the temple, he's correcting his first mistake when he abandoned her and her child. His decision not to tell Chakor the truth is not justifiable, it just serves as a reason for separation.
I think CVs concern is to punish Suraj for his past mistakes one by one. The bandhua track was just the first part in Suraj's redemption path. Taking the responsibility of the baby is repentance for abandoning the first one. The next mistake on Suraj's list of past sins is tricking Chakor into marrying him and forcing her to stay with him, and his decision to hide the truth from her will lead to him losing her for a long time if not forever. For Chakor to forgive him, he'll have to prove his loyalty and love for her many times.
In pursuing their grand plan, they forgot to make the story realistic and relatable.
