DUUUUDDEEE! Shut-up. You have to read the books to know why she did what she did.

She was on a trip with Damon to go save Stefan because these evil mystical foxes were going to kill him. DELENA had to stay at a hotel because something was following them and it was dangerous for them to stay out.

Elena had somehow become an angel so she had powers and using those she made Damon nice from evil. And then he revealed his vulnerability and how he was never loved before by anyone and Elena made him feel good and stuff.

So Elena felt horrible and she tried to make him open up and ....lots of things happened..it's hard to explain. You have to read the books.
