The Daily Mail is reporting that Michael Sheen, most recently known for portraying David Frost and Tony Blair, has been cast as Aro, the head of the Volturi vampires that Rob's character, Edward, will face off with in New Moon. Rob has a very pivotal scene with Aro and the rest of the Volturi that is essential to the story line. The Daily Mail reports that Chris Weitz, the director of New Moon, saught after Michael Sheen for the role.
Director Chris Weitz confirmed Sheen's casting to The Mail on Sunday and said he had 'aggressively' pursued the actor.
'Michael's role is so important because he's the head of all vampires,' he said. 'Aro is, on the surface, a very gracious and friendly vampire, but beneath that he is a tremendous threat.'
