Dhola-Maru to Veer-Zaara

In the movie Veer-Zaara, the hero's (SRK) name too was Veer Pratap Singh. So I think it is befitting to consider that the CVs are showing the transition of love and marriage from 15th century Dhola-Maru to that of Veer-Zaara.

Whereas in the past people lived and died faithful to a single partner. In modern times this idea is being challenged.

In this serial our Veer-Zaara (or Pakhi) have had to confront the ghosts of past relationships.

Veer, driven by guilt in being unable to profess his love to Kirti, decided to remain single and bring up Kirti child through the man she had married. He was grieving over the dreams and hopes that never materialized for him and Kirti, and over the loss that he experienced with her marrying someone else.

Pakhi, being recently widowed feels guilty about committing to a new love. Anshuman for a long time never loved her and never wanted her in his life. Finally when he turned around and accepted her with love - he was snatched away by death.

Both Veer and Pakhi felt an overwhelming sense of loss that left them confused and bereft - that the only source of strength they found was through raising Rhea (for Veer) and Ayaan (for Pakhi).

Both Veer and Pakhi did not sweep their past under the rug. Both know deep down that in the past they were hoping "an ideal". Pakhi fought for the ideal she had conjectured in her mind and when she thought it was in her grasp it slipped away. For Veer, his dreams and hopes never came to fruition.

But now, both are older and wiser. They are aware of the demons in their head that is holding them back and their individual strengths that is helping them move forward.

Veer opened his heart first. Now Pakhi is so consumed with the thought of saving Veer's life that knowingly or unknowingly he is becoming the focus of her life.

Pakhi's behavior with Veer's family too is totally the opposite of what it was with Anuja and Lavanya. Yesterday's episode was a clear example.

Yesterday, Pakhi was telling Jiji she was wrong and advising her how to bring up Kuhu. If it were Anuja or Lavanya in Jiji's place .Pakhi would have been literally tortured for her behavior.

Instead Pakhi was sure Jiji would reflect and understand that Pakhi was correct. She was also certain that Veer would make Jiji understand. Pakhi has finally realized that Veer's family, unlike the Rathore family, has basic core values and are very forgiving.

In other words, Pakhi thinks very highly of them. They have earned her respect. Today too she could directly confront Charu - all of these speak of a high comfort level.

In comparison, Lavanya's comment about Pakhi today (when she failed to drop everything and come and visit her) appeared very childish and immature. This scene was shown to symbolically convey that Pakhi has moved on.

Bottomline: Pakhi is getting to be stronger and happier. And, has moved on.

I know many are unhappy with the CVs for focussing on Nandini's marriage and Veer's family. But I think this is a brilliant idea to show the shift in Pakhi's focus (from Anshuman to Veer), her sense of commitment and fulfillment (in trying to solve the mystery and saving Veer's life), growth of character and ability to move (in finally having the courage to say no to Lavanya).

I could not agree more. I would just like to add:

1. the way Veer told Jiji that in the issue of Kuhu studying in a mixed school he agreed with Paakhi and Reha and the way he phoned Girish and Lavanya and invited them to the Nadani's shagai again showed his maturity.

He did not let his differences with Paakhi blind him so that he discarded her views on all matters nor did he let what happened with Lavenya forget his responsibility to invite them as they are family.

In both cases, Paakhi was surprised in a good way - unknowingly Paakhi's respect for Veer and the kind of person he is, is growing. Its easy to respect and be courteous to someone when things are going well but to do so when things are strained/their is tension/when you are barely on speaking terms is admirable.

2. Paakhi is been given respect by Veer's family even though they know the truth of her relationship with Veer. Jiji has a sharp tongue but Paakhi is not being singled out, all of them are at its receiving end so by inference she still considers Paakhi part of her family. Reha, Kuhu and now Charu trust Paakhi and feel comfortable enough to entrust her with their secrets and respect her enough to not lie to her/turn to her for help.

3. the latest twist of Mr Rail trying to con Lavanya and Girish while the real one is touch with Veer will again show maturity of PaakVeer in that they understand that moving on in their life does not mean cutting of ties relating to previous relationships but to embrace those relationships so that the extended family is bigger.

And through it all Aayan is being loved and sheltered by all from Jiji down to Reha.

Paakhi is indeed moving on unknowingly. It will be interesting to see what will tip the balance that will make Paakhi realise that she is emotionally involved with Veer (I won't call it love because that invokes for most people hearts and flowers romance which is not where they are at but they will get there too in due course). That her actions are not because it is her duty to take care of him but because she cares for him and does not want/will not let anything bad to happen to him.

Very insightful post by you both . ...I do feel they are using a different approach to get Paakhi to realized she is moving on and that she can and in fact dose care about Veer.
