Taming the Shrew Take 16: Rhea is 18 going on 30

Phew!! What an episode!!! It certainly feels like Rhea is 18 going on 30. In other words Rhea is 18 years old but acts older - like a 30 year old.
She is outright rude to everyone except Girish. To be honest, I liked that for once Anuja and Lavanya got their just deserts!! However, that girl did push the envelope with Veer.
For the first time, Veer lost his cool with her and gave her a thappad (slap) across her face.
Yes, Rhea the 18 year old, is self sufficient, talented, and a good student, but her bad attitude, is unbelievable!!
Veer has given her so much and asked nothing in return. She takes everything for granted and is unappreciative. She is totally uncaring about anybody and anything.
I think the problem lies in the fact that Veer does so much and ask so little in return ...
All of Veer's doing have been material (as pointed out earlier by others on this forum)
Here is my list of the things that I wish Veer had focused on:
Empathy has to be taught, social skills, manners ... all have to be taught.

Why does Rhea have a computer or phone? Did she get a job and earn the money? Does she pay for it herself? Does she buy her own clothes, shoes, make-up, etc?

If everything is handed to her, how can she value anything?

If she didn't show any appreciation to Veer for providing all that she has, how can she be proud of it?

Rhea has been raised in a world where she had to think only of herself, she was not given chores to do, not given responsibility, not held accountable ... all she had to do was ask what she needed and Veer provided it to her.

Even now, at Rathore Mansion, I have never seen Rhea do a single chore. We have seen Ayaan polish his shoes, clean his room, arrange the furniture in his room, and willing to help his mom, Pakhi. But have we ever seen Rhea willing to do any chore for any one?
Even when she drew those shoe designs - Pakhi and Girish made it so very easy for her - did she have to do any work to seek customers or convince them of her abilities?
Does she use her skills and talents to help make better the lives of others?

How can she feel valuable as a person if she doesn't do these things?

How can she be proud of herself if she does nothing to be proud of?

If she receives, but never serves, or does not express gratitude how will she learn to appreciate the good in others. Hers is a sad and lonely life indeed ...

Rhea's ... rude sassy behavior is about creating distance between herself and others... It is a cry for help, for love ... ...

The truth is she was never really given tools or support ... just stuff ...

She doesn't need excuses made for her, that is not what I am saying ... but that is what Pakhi said in fewer words to Girish and Veer.
Perhaps that slap was needed. In a way it is a wake up call for both Veer and Rhea - moving forward their relationship may take a turn for the better.

Brilliant post. and I agree 100 %.
I agree that Veer has treated her as I said before with kid gloves. Partly because 1. when he got her she was mentally disturb so much so she had to see a psychologist.
Veer for one said he was never an expressive guy. So he never expressed himself to her.
He probably treated her with Kid gloves from the start.
It was easier to give her all material things than talk... which resulted in the young lady we are seeing today.
As you said today his face said it all he realized he made a mistake with her.
On the other hand She finally saw a side of him she probably thought he never had... a man who would not put up with her crap. She likes to say she is self sufficient. that is because she lives next to the over flowing well So she never missed the water.
But now I think the well has ran dry and since he all but cut her off...let's see how she will do fending for herself.

Thank you Vinnie for the kind comment.

Yes, I remember you had mentioned very early that "Veer has treated Rhea with kid gloves... ..."

And, how true was your observation!!

And, today definitely was a turning point in the Veer-Rhea relationship. Both for him and for her.

On another note, today was also a turning point in the Girish-Lavanya relation. Girish has decided that Lavanya needs to realize that she cannot take him for granted and that she better focus on her husband and kids!

The Lavanya-Anuja relation also received a jolt with Rhea's revelations.

Finally, for once PakhVeer and Girish decided on a plan of action with Anuja-Lavanya or Rhea eavesdropping. So secrecy is maintained.

All in all - it was a dynamic, paisa vasool episode.

Nice analysis..

I did mentioned in one of your post that Riya needs a reality check..

She is so self-centered but now its time for her to get the payback..

Its high time she is taught some manners and to learn how to value relationship ..Being an orphan Veer has given her everything on a Golden platter..Even that she was showing him Attitude and OTT rude with him...

As you said a turning point in Veer..Riya ..Girish..Lavanya relationship..Be it Riya or Lavanya both have always taken for granted the unconditional love showered on them...

The Trio plan will definitely work ... Pakhi confidence is right as Riya will turn towards Veer sooner or later ..one when she will have to bear the brunt of Anuja/Lavanya anger and second Veer..Pakhi giving her the cold shoulders...

Thank you Saveeta for the comment.

Very true, you have mentioned earlier that Rhea needs a reality check,

Teri muah mein ghee shakkar for saying "The trio plan will definitely work". I certainly hope it turns out just as you predict!!
