I wish all my friends here "Happy Dussera" and "Vijaya Dashami". This is an occasion which celebrates the triumph of good over bad...

Its the day on which Lord Shri Ram killed Ravan. Basically it shows the victory of good over bad.
Its also celebrated as Navratri and Durga puja and the goddess is immersed in water after the Puja ceremony for couple of days. Especially, in north India and West Bengal, it is celebrated in great grandeur for many days.

sorry for replying late..
we dont need to fast. But some people do fast and eat only after offering the Puja.
Actually Durga Puja is supposed to be celebrated in spring. Durga Puja was never held in autumn. But since Lord Ram had to seek "Shakti" or "Durga"'s blessing to kill Ravana, He performed this puja at its not scheduled time, hence this autumn Durga Puja is "Akal Bodhon", akal means something not on time and bodhon means to welcome. Some people also set up this idol of Ram worshipping Durga and do that Puja. Majority however worship Durga along with Laxmi, Sarawati, Kartik, Ganesh.
But at the end, its actually worshipping Mother Durga, so anything is fine.

Happy Dussera!
I love going to watch the shows shame they don't have any in the UK! Once I went to watch them burning Ravan and Ram the guy who was shooting the arrows caught on Fire! and my dad shouted out someone save Ram! It was hilarious you had to be there!
