Not new to India Forums as such, just new to the TSMSP forum 😊

Been occasionally reading some of the reviews here and I must say, some really insightful analyses of the show on the TSMSP forum. Kudos to all those who patiently sit down and express their thoughts on the daily episodes, no matter how horrid many of these frequently are. I used to do the same, but for a different show on Star Plus that has long since lost all sensibility :(

Anyway, as regards today's episode, I will directly delve into the bit where Uma comes out of the room, looking drop-dead gorgeous and oh-so-put-together in a blue/purple shirt and neat fitting trousers. While I absolutely loved the look and am impressed with the way our man is taking these strategic steps towards "changing himself " and keeping pace with "aaj ki duniya", I fear these may be extremely hasty steps, instead of measured ones.

Sooo many things about the episode today were spelling doom in all possible ways. And as a loyal Kanum fan, it hurt me real bad. My heart was thumping like crazy.

Things that made me really uncomfortable 😵:

1) The way Uma kept stressing on the "I instead of "We which usually Kanak does. I'm glad he wants to prove to himself, and make his own mistakes and learn from them, but I somehow didn't like the tone. It was too cutting, and very uncharacteristic of Uma. This was more of a shocker since it's just been a day since they've got back from Bangkok, where Uma couldn't do without Kanak and now he's acting all fidgety to get out of this "12 saal se main duniya se peeche raha" cage. Now I see a man excited and prepared to change himself, unfortunately, he's also exhibiting the traits of someone who might be too blinded by bahar ki chamak, in the process of discovering himself.

2) Could literally FEEL Kanak squirming when he say, "thoda dheela rakho Kanak, mujhe ghutan ho rahi hai. 😭 Abhi toh itna chipke the, abhi itni jaldi dheel chahiye? Kaunsa tumhen baandh ke rakha hai Kanak ne!

3) Could literally SEE how hurt Kanak was when he said he would be going to meet Meera Mittal alone.

4) And then when he said he would be using his own phone, own number - that's fine, everybody should have their own number but when they've never used a smartphone before in their life (forget that, they haven't used even a basic phone till now) and want to purchase the glossiest gadget in the market that LOOKS GOOD and you know, is good for showing off and keeping pace with all things modern, these are warning bells that should not and cannot be ignored. Poor Kanak, she's even bought him a seedha saadha phone, I dread Uma's reaction. Or rather lack thereof. Ugh.

Kanak is already feeling left out and somewhere deep down is worried (tomorrow's precap confirms these fears). We are worried too, coz just as much as want Uma to change, we don't want him to lose the essence of who he is.

And that is what my biggest fear is - Meera Mittal is and has everything Uma aspires for at the moment (remember, he also wants to be a safal vyapari like he said yesterday?). With Kanak mouthing shitty dialogues like, "Meera Mittal aapke kamyabi ki pehli seedhi hai "Jayiye Uma, Meera Mittal ko flat kar dijiye I can smell so many horrible, depressing vibes here😵

A woman can take anything but cannot tolerate her man falling for/spending too much time with/being too impressed or enamoured with any other woman. I just hope our worst fears are not confirmed as the episodes roll on.

As of now, I really hope Kanak finds her own identity too. It's time she moved away from "just being a housewife to my husband mode" to a police officer like her Mom or a politician like Arpita. Oh man! I have sooo many possibilities brimming in my mind right now when I think of Kanak and Uma, in their respective careers, and then coming at loggerheads (main bhi kuch kam nai hun, fast forward ki aadat mujhe bhi hai 😉😛😆). Maybe Uma distancing himself away from her will provide her the impetus.

In original Diya aur Bati, Suraj and Sandhya had different issues. Opening up to a broader world view than the closeted, traditional view (especially with regard to Sandhya's role and status in the family, her ambitions), balancing profession with family responsibilities, love and respect between a couple and being equals and complementary in every sense.

In TSMSP, we have these same things except now it's the millennial generation that's grappling with issues of identity, space and other elements in relationship, trust, etc. Suraj and Sandhya had many, many issues but a third wheel (an attractive successful other woman) was never an issue between them (correct me if I am wrong here, I have watched the show on and off). Uma and Kanak though will have different issues, issues unique and specific to this generation.

That is completely fine. But one thing is certain Kanak and the viewers- we- will go through plenty of mini heartbreaks starting now.

PRECAP: Will anyone tell me WHY Uma has to pick a woman up like that? That too a woman who is an entitled moron and thinks only she reserves the right to say NO?? Looked like there was a bomb scare in the mall or something (I can't think of WHY ELSE a seedha saadha chap like Uma would do something drastic as this!!). But even then, I am so pissed.😡

P.S. Own phone, own number. Meera calling now, huh??

Welcome to the forum! Thanks for taking the time to make this post, I enjoyed reading it.
I think personally Uma didnt really need to change, he was fine as he was, his views werent all bad.
He is changing to fast and I feel the whole episode was full of symbolic references e.g. the old and new mobiles representing Kanak and this new woman.
The fact that Uma wants to change, if he changes to much he wont be the Uma that was meant to be with Kanak etc

I feel the show is sending the wrong message, that if you dont use mobile phones etc then you are backwards and need to catch up
I understand that Uma feels like he is the only one left in a fast paced generation and he isnt caught up, but I feel in time this will all have a terrible backlash on him and Kanak

He wants to change for her, yet now he will become to forward for her, change takes time and cannot be accomplished in 12 days, in all fairness I like the whole Kanak being so strong and helping Uma
But now it just feels like Kanak must always teach Uma

Hai dear
Welcome to the forum.
I loved ur post.
Uma's thinking is totally different, he want to learnt the worldly things on his own.
Bring the new woman, is really hating.

Precap: it look like meera is going to press the fire alarm, because she wants to buy in the empty mall without any disturbance. May be uma may not understand this, and thought of fire in the mall. So in a hurry, uma carried her, in order to save her.

Thank you for the warm welcome Rehanna!

Well, to an extent I agree with you. He wasn't all that bad and didn't really need these drastic changes to his personality. But I'll be honest, I am okay with him changing. Not his dress sense and his looks and all of that, but the way his inner thought process is undergoing this expansion. I like the fact that he doesn't go by Nanda's instructions of how to perceive and treat women, or his hammering on dharm-adharm and imposing it on others who may have different worldviews or his absolute lack of touch with how the world today functions.

@ red - But don't you think in this day and age one needs to know how to operate mobile phones. Not so one can be called modern and all, but because it facilitates good connectivity and ease of life? For that reason, he should, he must in fact. The very fact that he didn't know a thing about the world outside kept him at a distance from things like patents and internet and stuff like that. So I believe he should know. At the same time, he is hurtling at a speed and an intensity that will likely backfire on his and Kanak's relationship. That, I don't want.

@blue - You're right. My concern is the same - aisa na ho ki woh itna aage badh jaaye ki use Kanak pichdi hui lage. That will be moronic on his part! I hope he doesn't get carried away by Meera's arrogance, attractiveness, success and all the fluff she represents and think lesser of simple, beautiful yet strong and independent Kanak. That will be such a letdown.

Thank you for the warm welcome Geetha! :)

What kind of moron even presses the fire alarm so that they get to shop "undisturbed" in the whole damn mall? Crazy woman😡

In either case, I just don't like the precap. I'm imagining all sorts of things

You're right. Let's wait and watch. I just hope it doesnt turn out to be as bad as it looks in yesterday's episode

Hello! No problem!
I didnt mean his change is negative, just that after Bangkok, it seemed he had changed enough, it wasnt necessary to do the rest but I do like it

I agree mobile phones are helpful, I rely on mine heavily and I always ask my nan to take hers with her for safety reasons
So yes, he should have one
But the way the show have portrayed it makes it lool like those who dont have a phone arent good enough

He loves Kanak, he will always pick her
But hes also blind
When it comes to Nanda, then Palomi, now Meera
Kanak will express her concerns and Uma will be blind to them

At this rate, will they ever get married?

@BLUE - Yes, the portrayal is a little skewed and rushed. Dont kind of like that. And when you see how quickly Uma's taken to Meera's words, you see how he is naive enough to be blinded by the shiny, glossy outside world, forgetting the simple, durable stuff that really matters

@ RED- Sadly, yes. I can see this track too going the same way and that is so painful because this means all the so-called growth of Uma as a character goes down the drain. Back to square one!

GREEN - that, really, is my biggest concern. The stupid divorce happened coz of Uma's stupidity, the remarriage failed because of his ill luck and in part, his stupidity. The same might happen this time around as well. Again, owing to his stupidity😡
