Hey there all the lovely people!!
It's Sunday and there is a tradition to keep... so I am back with another SS - Short story, it won't be stretched tooo long like the last one. The setting is a bit different than my usual works, so please bear with me.
SS ; Dil e Nadaan
"Yaad uski itni khoob nahi meer' baaz aa
Naadan phir woh jee se bhulaya na jayega
Uma walked with a certain restlessness through the streets, there was something in the air, it was fragrant, and the fragrance made him dizzy with the memories... memories he cherished and memories he wanted to lock down... four years had gone by yet it seemed like yesterday... the chandan mehak was heavy in the air, and everything came back to him the girl for whom Shivji gave sanket, they had missed seeing each other till the mahaShivratri festival, where his world crashed, his heart stolen in an instant, his gaze fixed on her, his mind made up to marry her, for he knew that she was the one for him... he sent his mother with the proposal there n then, she had agreed but she left him jilted at the mandap... she said it was all a mistake, a misunderstanding and she was engaged to someone else ... he let her go-she walked away, making a choice for herself...his heart broken in pieces unimaginable, the euphoria had lasted only for a few minutes and now it was just a dull ache whenever the memories came to surface.
Quiet sobbing broke his reverie, he looked around for the source of the voice... a little boy with reddened cheeks, tears brimming in his eyes, his fists clenched on his sides looked here and there- the child was lost Uma concluded... he knelt down to face the boy, "what's your name? Uma asked, the boy shook his head... his shade of red deepening.. "where are your parents, mama or papa? Here there, Uma asked while pointing in different directions.. Uma got up and looked around, he had taken a step back when a little hand curled around his fingers, the boy was reaching out for him to stay, to help. Uma picked up the boy and asked around if anybody knew him. A passerby informed that the kid was similar to the one who lived two streets down.
Aryan ...Aryan!! the melodious voice drifted out of the house, the child wriggled in his arms but Uma didn't let go.. he would make sure the child was safely home. Uma stood at the door carrying the little boy, when she came fleeting from the staircase, her hair bouncing and flying behind, her skirt picked up, allowing her feet to move, "Aryan she called out again and then stopped as her gaze fell on the door. Uma looked at her and she looked back. She came running towards him, she took the little boy from him, and hugged him, rattling the kid "where did you go, I was so worried for you, promise you won't go away ... Aryan, you listening, as she loved the kid and schooled him at the same time - she was his mother, Uma looked at her, she hadn't even acknowledged him, he didn't exist for her, as her world was right in her arms, she didn't remember him, Uma. The guy she had jilted... he had no hard feelings but it was awkward... Uma couldn't stand any longer, this wasn't something he had expected, he turned and she called him "suniye he stopped but didn't turn "thank you for bringing back Aryan home... I don't how I would ever repay your kindness.
Uma turned and a flash crossed through her eyes, she knew who he was... memories of that day came flooding back, when he stopped her from leaving, reasoning those meetings, sankets as he called them, his reason to marry her, -she couldn't get information straight in her head. She couldn't have committed her life on a hunch, marriages not to be taken lightly she had left, and he didn't stop or force her, for which she was ever grateful. Years later he was here on her doorsteps.
"You have come till here, brought Aryan home, least I can do is ask you tea... please I insist Kanak said seeing he would refuse. Uma nodded and stepped ahead. "Make yourself comfortable I will just be back, Kanak said and dragged the little boy playfully inside. He stepped into her domain, he shouldn't be doing it, he knew he would be hurt all the more-she had a family and he was still stuck there, Time hadn't moved for him... he should leave, this wasn't right.
To be continued...
Rocks and chappals are always welcome 🤗
