TSMSPJ*ep.78*1.7.17: My Impression*Leave behind..
The title, leave behind has several connotations. One being to fail or forget behind someone or something. This in itself can boil down to forgetfulness or it well may be deliberate. Leave behind, can also imply depart from one place, to embark on a new phase of some journey. Looking at today's episode one thing is quite clear that Kanak has been abandoned by Uma in the middle of nowhere.. in keeping with the tone of gender bias between Uma and Kanak.I could see my mind veering towards the role female characters portray in this episode, alongside..
Kanak perhaps needed the extra kick of spirits to joggle Uma's acumen into coming to terms with the fact that he needs to leave behind his constricted view of life, especially where the role of women in local and wider context is concerned. It's a pity that that their previous exchange of ideas on the said matter, ended up as a complete deadlock. By default the alcohol puts Kanak in a position where she has Uma as an audience all to herself.Last time she was unable to complete her debate. Hence she blabbers on some known facts that the CV's want to get across to the audiences to boost the image of the woman, who if afforded the opportunities do excel by the encouragement, faith of her family. Kanak thus forces him to grasp some known facts where women half given the opportunity have proved their true potential and excelled in society. Mind you Uma defends himself feebly by commenting that, she has the got the wrong end of the stick , both about him and and his principles .I suspect he shows wisdom ,that it is perhaps pointless to debate with one who is under the influence of alcohol. Not much goes in! Her inebriated state renders him speechless.. the girl loses the plot completely and passes out. Does Uma take in, or leave back to her! all she spewed? Or does he part from her with a sense of moving away from her?? after all she sees him not as her husband but as a scoundrel! On the other hand, I found it interesting where Kanak equates her father Suraj's image with her husband Uma. Does this indicate that a girl never leaves the overwhelming feeling she has for her father. She looks for the father figure persona in her husband that he would sustain and bear her like her father did.. This may sadly apply to those who are lucky enough to have a supporting father.
The Meenakshi babbasa scene challenges the stereotypical role of a daughter in law with a tartar tongue who breaks the family. Mind you the split between the Rathi's may be somewhere along the line traced to Meenakshi. But here she is in an amazing scene where she joins the elderly couple who despite living apart due to personal differences still stand as the couple faithful in love! for each other. Meenakshi leaves behind the differences, and rises as the sharp tongue bahu who unites people that matter the most. Babbasa breaks the barrier of in laws.. and from the heart and a failing forgetful mind , calls Meenakshi his daughter! Even Bhabo watching from the shadows regrets, where she failed meenaskhi ,her husband never forgot to be the good father to their daughter in law. Bhabo softens, when she notes the sentiment her husband leaves behind ,if ever he loses his way.. and begins another journey elsewhere..
For me, Payal's mother surpasses and let's go of all self esteem and self respect. She manipulates and tempts her daughter Payal. This mother attempts to transfer her own avarice of the good life into Payal. This mother leaves sanity far behind. Fails to grasp that all the riches and respectability in the world cannot act as a befitting replacement of Aditya, Payal's husband. On the one hand, Payal's mother puts her down by telling her that it's her in laws family respectability that grants her an identity. In the other instance, she grooms Payal to go into a power struggle with Kanak for the bahu supremacy of the house! This mother instigates her own daughter to destroy her own house. This mother needs to depart and leave behind Payal so she can get on with life! The highlight of the scene is Payal's mother's ironical comment.. it's her life! she needs to take her own decisions for it!
Finally the scene.. leave behind!.. well for starters, booze ,especially for first time victims ! who wake up completely washed out by it. Her brain seems oozy woozy! One minute a nauseating memory loss.. the next minute a faint recollection of the night before! Then a doubt.. cannot be! .. tell tale signs, her jewellery scattered on his bed! panic! Something that might have happened! Did he leave his senses? He couldn't have! The two faced sanctimonious man! she'll have his guts for garter! Muses Kanak! Uma!! where is he?? His luggage, belongings gone! What? Did he just abandon her and taken off without her! another of his twisted principled sick jokes!! Her legs sprint.. she catches him riding away in the bullock cart!
He cannot continue a trip without her! her panic ridden sprint! creates doubts in her mind.. did she say bad things she shouldn't have? she is aware that mostly they fall out whenever they get together. Well Kanak better try her tactics! Calls out an apology!.. Uma was in his senses last night and he is more than clued on to the stuff she comes out with! As it is, Uma is far from letting her off. He pulls the reins of the cart and chides her for her compulsive lying.. tells her she herself fell into the pit she dug for him! yes she was drunk!!no use lying!..
Is Kanak clear in the mind to perceive that him suddenly leaving her whilst she was still asleep ..was done by choice thats why he left this way? Leaving at day break.. silently, does it imply symbolically that Uma wishes to carry on his journey of life alone? Minus her? well to Kanak it may suggest that he plans to neglect and forgo her existence in his life? What is the meaning of his solitary bullock journey? Kanak I suspect will not allow any of them to happen.. certainly not! she has her agenda to adhere to...
Seems Uma has enough of her antics.. she keeps him on tether hooks.. miserable Uma tells her.. not his fault ,but hers.. as she leaves him no other alternative other than to release her... she is free to leave! As he is leaving her behind.. as she is history! Will Kanak hang on to this marriage like Payal does? Or will Kanak opt to undergo whatever penalty he gives her.. for the sake of the shop? Which role is Kanak portraying as we speak.. some where a wife? or a daughter? Or is she both.. a wife that has not yet fully left behind being a daughter.. one who still yearns for a maternal bonding. Hamlet53 2.7.17
