Lace is not an common word. Where one it is a delicate decorative fabric riddled with holes set in designs and asymmetrical patterns. On the other hand cord and string, lace are used to draw together shoes. Lace ,can also mean to adulterate something, with another. Today's episode in given scenarios, for me, lends itself to words and phrases that revolve around the word lace..
It is obvious that Uma has to tighten the laces of Kanak's behaviour into shape. Have her seen as an exemplar of a dutiful virtuous wife. Yes she attempts to bend or even to create fissures in her husband's authoritative position by carrying out the starch conspiracy. He has compressed her spirit by pulling the laces of righteousness. She was in the wrong and he on moral high ground. It is fit to chastise and reprimand her over what she undertook in a moment weakness. Its almost like a situation, where a father punishes a naughty child, it appears to me, when he warns her. One only reaps what one sows! So get on with the task. Not even Palomi's offer of giving her a hand! spares Kanak from being laced into the sticky situation ,where she feels being devoured and scolded by Uma. In fact he ensures she gets her due punishment of rinsing off the starch from his garments!!
Palomi has her own muffled trumpets to blow. Giving messages to Uma that she was and still is, his most obedient, most humble servant. But Uma never did, and never will catch on to the message she relays to tighten the delicate lacy drawstrings of her infatuation around his heart. Have to say her stubborn determination to snatch his attention from Kanak gets the better of her, as she continues to show Kanak that she can still approach Uma to lace up her old ties with him. But where Uma knows to control his own wife's flight.. with Palomi he spares her even from the thought of taking off. Quite firmly he tells Palomi in no uncertain terms that only Kanak has the right to serve him! He also dampens Palomi's speculations that Uma and Kanak might split! With a calm, grin on his face he dismisses off his and Kanak's conflicts are mere mild tiffs which actually serve as a drawing and pulling them closer, rather them setting them part. In fact it's interesting to see that Kanak too laces with sarcasm her thanks to Palomi for offering to wash Uma's trunks!! Can we deduct that Kanak can detect that Palomi subtly continues to lace up.. intertwine and interlace up with her Uma Shankar?
Kanak tearfully tackles her punishment. Her eyes laced with saline tears, teach her one new thing. She has to consider consequences of her plots against Uma,as the man too has began to use the technique of warding her conspiracies off! So really, one can say that Uma's recent attempt to lace her up ,have paid off! as she now reflects.. even though her self evaluation only in one way makes her rather sad when she recalls her women's liberation speeches she used to fervently make before her brothers! How they praised her words of gender equality! How they cheered and compared her to their determined intrepid mother! But now.. she seems to be losing the puff in her firm beliefs. Kanak needs to learn that in order to fight the equality cause, she has to win the support of her husband. Like her mother Sandhya was backed by her father Suraj in her every success. Kanak though feels that in this instance Bhabo's shop papers, tangle , complicate the laces of her life with Uma Shankar. So for now, she will be at loggerheads with this cheat Uma Shankar!
The worship ritual tonight where married couples pray and then seek blessings from elders for a blissful act of being eternally laced together .. Kanak decides to be absent from. Such a farcical act of being strung together. She will not be party to such hypocrisy! Uma can attend it on his own! That should teach him !of lacing her up! from being herself .. she will make up an excuse... as and when required! Kanak will continue to rebel with a cause.. get the shop back for her Bhabo!
Payal on the other hand is willing to sit in the worship with a blank picture of her husband as long as she is deemed to be laced into a martial bond however foolish it may appear. Payal in comparison to Kanak is the ideal daughter in law. Compliant, her head buried in the sand like a turtle.. as it in today's episode Maasi wonders Kanak turning a new leaf? accepting her mistakes without batting an eyelid.. not putting up a resistance.. is hard for Maasi to swallow.. Kanak is surely up to something?
Well how right she is. Kanak will put up a resistance. The scene where Uma comes to collect his wife for puja is soft touch in comparison to his tightening the laces on her earlier. Kanak yet again gives him the right signals she is ready! But on the way out in the corridor she again makes an attempt to hook his propriety into showing him down! She gets the criss cross string of her blouse hooked to the light switch! The string snaps much to her delight! she waits for him to snap! and have a short fuse! She suggests she cannot attend worship now! he'd best go on his own.
Calm is Uma's quality. Comes in handy to lace up Kanak's ways. A piece of string from the flower garlands will have to make do! With complete right over Kanak.. This woman is no stranger to him, but his wife. His hands will touch her, loop the string, through the loop holes of her blouse. Her bare back he will handle ,shock she may suffer. But for him the task is to weave the string and secure her article of clothing. Show her that in every situation ,she complicates , he will lace up his control ,serve her, assistance her in the most outrageous of scenarios so she can see that he can cover her back! if only she lets him.. all he wants is to be part of her life. For together they can undo the jumbled mess of lace ups! in their lives..
Kanak is speechless. Once again he laces her up, into shape. Kanak in turn plans to lace up.. things with spirits.. to adulterate his work and his righteous image.. she wants to see how Uma will loosen up such knotted laces? hamlet53 25.6.17
