Change is inevitable.. and those who don't change rust with age and time. One constantly need evolve to survive. And any kind of change is first to bring in the self, society another person anybody comes second. First one needs to change themselves, to even imagine the change in the world. If Kanak wants to change US mentality, she needs to understand too. If he is conservative by his rules then Kanak is closed by notions of her own idea of modernization. What was supposed to be a blend, clash and tempering of old and new is just left as petty pranks.
Kanak's logic of bending and breaking US rules is to teach him a lesson for being a daku Singh. After 17 days she would leave and continue life as if US was a bad dream. Would she be welcome back in her house after creating this much drama. Living with someone as someone's wife, pretending to have been intimate with him-/- how does she even think about walking away from all this without any consequence is beyond me.
This petty war she is fighting with US is just feeding the ego. It's not about being conservative or modern, it's more like ego issues, you did this, now you would reap so.
Whereas US is a smart guy, he knows Kanak is up to no good, so is trying to sabotage her antics by playing along her lines.
As for the family, Kanak is pretending in front of them, feeding them an image of Sita, all obedient but inquisitive-- has she ever considered how hurt they would be because she would escape leaving them all jilted.
Kanak's character needs a serious wake up call to start seeing US as human for starters.
And US needs to have a proper conversation with her. Spend some time with her, observe her try to find about her by spending time with her. He cannot escape his due by just teaching dharm and giving no time to her.
