TSMSPJ*ep: 49*29.5.17: My Impression .. Emotional scarring
Emotional scarring may be a lingering sign of physical or emotional damage done to someone. Emotional scarring can range from severe to moderate, with obvious or subtle signs showing upon the victim. However whichever way it's looked at, any form of abuse, physical or otherwise is unacceptable and is seen as against a person's human rights. Looking at the recent episodes including this one is to me a further expression of Kanak's over the years muffled emotional strain and anguish. Kanak's scarring to me has been exclusion often cold verbal abuse but most certainly she has gone through the pain of neglect ,not in terms of food, clothing, shelter ,or even in the right to a sound education. Instead Kanak suffers from emotional neglect, a lack of the warm security of love especially from the one person who denied Kanak the rightful love of being a granddaughter, Her Bhabo.
For me the episode is yet another tirade from Kanak about having a wretched childhood that for me has left her with some scarring of the psyche. She has spoken to her brothers many times about it. Yet today, in the protective armor of Uma's bride, she basically yet again deals with Bhabo's indifferent attitude of once again excluding her from the shops anniversary. Such irony the shop stands named after her! what mockery. Her marriage to Uma , does in actual fact give her big words that give weight to her big decisions. For Kanak its time to inform the lot , especially the one who caused her emotional disturbance. She no longer is alone, but has a new life with new family with a new identity. Kanak actually sounds off she felt her emotional needs as the family's granddaughter were stifled all her life, by the strong matriarchal elder of the household. Its like a cry from her to the Rathi's, that she has her own identity too, apart from being part of their household. It's her new image she thwarts before. Its regretful to see how Bhabo's dismissive manner towards her, now clouds Kanak's attitude towards all her family. Or perhaps, her brought on reformed frigidity, is her defensive mechanism from crumbling before her family who are her weakness! But now Kanak gives off ill vibes to muster strength before her by birth family. The strain of past wounds of her wretched childhood leaves Kanak weary of accepting any form of support offered by well meaning family members, her brother, aunt, uncle. It's equally painful for Kanak to turn a deaf ear to babbsa's words of support that he has faith that she has chosen a life partner on the same level as herself and they share common beliefs, plus a connectivity of the hearts. To me it must be quite an emotional task for her to say nothing about the subject! It's almost prophetic that he should comment on the agreement of Kanak and her husband's beliefs and perception. Such irony, as for the moment the truth as Kanak knows it, is that Uma and her are as different from each other as chalk and cheese.
Kanak feels their words of support constitute a hidden trap to disclose the identity of her husband.Uma's identity she will withhold till she achieves her hidden agenda. It sad to see for ourselves that despite her open protest against Bhabo treatment towards her, Bhabo still emotionally scars Kanak publically yet again silently, once more on the auspicious of the shops anniversary. By turning away and leaving Kanak standing alone before the shop. in her stiff, stern distant attitude, Bhabo damns Kanak as her parents killer, and now as the self willed girl who took the decision to marry on her own!
Over the years of being subjected to Bhabo's silent cold rebuff treatment has made Kanak fairly thick skinned. She has a good stamina level to withstand pain. Uma who himself is quite an expert in swallowing pain and a champion of perseverance probably spotted the tough woman quality in Kanak too, I suspect..
Yes it's true that Kanak has also been historically been pampered by the males in her family and her aunt too. It's not easy for Kanak to say things out of character, sharply ,selfish taunts especially for Bhabo . It may be disappointing for Kanak also, to see how easily Ved bought her anti family , anti Bhabo hate speech. Kanak succeeds in not arousing his suspicious. Ved on the other hand, sounds off like a typical brother who would snide that his sister has changed every since she got married. As for Kanak she too rants on as a typical sister that they are wanting to meet her husband but she never got respect from the Rathi's how can she anticipate them to show respect for him? Her plea to her family is show respect for their daughter first! her husband comes after.
The episode for me is another fine one, that makes me see the spoken rather wild side of Kanak, which, for me coincides with the strong silent old harridan like Bhabo. Both tend to dig their heels in the same way. Both carry an anguish within their hearts, but the outcome of their individual grief is dissimilar to each other. Kanak still has compassion, loyalty, a sense of justice in her heart, despite emotional scarring hurled at her. Bhabo on the other hand by using Kanak as an excuse for her parents demise , has become a frail ,ill bitter old woman! In the episode Kanak on her high horse also questions Meenakshi , very nearly that how come Misri was never picked on?? Whereas she, Kanak ! was always at the receiving end of Bhabo's hatred? We see Kanak break down emotionally when on her own, before the shop. Oddly enough she dressed herself to reflect the beauty, and significance of the shop. Yes her family does not realize the true intent and purpose of her bridal look. Kanak's tears , roll down in the hope that her family will just have to trust her on this one. She may be seen as a wrong doer, may be she is ? deceiving her family, but this guile, of a scarred girl.. is a means to a righteous end.
The Rathi's have all gone home, their home, and now Kanak , with a new family , new identity, must head for her new home. This too Kanak knows , that Uma Shankar will accept her, even though his family might not.To me Kanak washing off her hands of the Rathi's, is a catalyst to reverse her feet back to Uma Shankar..The scenario may be her family has rejected her.. and Uma will stand by her as her man, her husband , the gods arranged for her. In the meanwhile why Kanak really returns to him? She silently holds the answer in her heart..The episode belongs to Rhea in the role of Kanak. The budding actor certainly is growing on me in the role of Kanak. Today she certainly and rightly so, is the centre of every one's attention.. waiting to see her scenes with Uma's clan tomorrow. Will she be subjected to more emotional scarring or will she be on a stable road to recovery?? Hamlet53 30.5.17
