Tsmspj ep:32*9.5.17:My Impressions* pulling a fast one!
Quite simply to dupe and con to get by. For me it's also catching others out , rather cleverly when they are in a vulnerable position .It's a devious way of getting some truth out of people. Today's episode shows moments where characters are party to outsmarting or out witting each other for their personal benefit or knowledge. Pulling a fast one is carried out deceitfully, almost harmlesslythat it even appears funny and tongue in cheek in the episode.
When a beleaguered Kanak enquires about the disuse of a mobile phone by the family? To her every one carries one for emergency or social use? She muses another of their oddities. Uma Shankar sure does pull a fast one before Kanak when he talks about the con's of business traders. To me he exposes the humdrum of contemporary times. Where money is time. Life is lived in the fast lane. A rat race where people make good use of technology at their fingertips, and thus save on time and distance in terms of communication. The madness of juggling umpteenth balls in the air of work, family ,friends, leisure !can all be done dexterously at the touch of the mobile phone! Yes it does make us mobile as the controls lie in our hands. But as Uma points out with great panache, what the sellers do not promote is the gradual damage it causes our health, that at times can be life threatening. He touches on an important fast dwindling art of having a one to one conversation with a dear one. Mobiles have minimized the need of in person visitations to loved ones. That which has it's own traditional charm.Kanak could have argued that face to face conversation can be carried out on Skype , especially where long distances are concerned. But then one still misses out the fun of being in the habitat of the loved ones! Uma sure does outwit Kanak when he refers to how the younger generation..the future human resources obsession with mobile phone games ,thus being churned out as a bodily unfit generation due to lack of exercise ,which contributes to crankiness and insomnia as the body is not tired enough! Kanak is stumped by his awareness of what harms and help, is amazing!I detect a certain admiration in her for Ravan.. what he argues is no perpetuation of fraud.. but scientifically know facts. The informal atmosphere does call for inclusion of Kanak into the family by Shiva. He calls out protectively since she's part of their family, she needs to abandon the idea of using mobiles. Uma appeases her, till they are in the dark about her and her family ,she officially is not part of their family! Kanak is on guard! If he thinks he can pull a fast one in this relaxed chit chat scenario and get information about her and her family, the man's sadly mistaken. She is brave enough to speak up for family that they would renounce such a forced marriage! Maasi will not have Kanak have the last word and once again she reminds , the step was taken as Kanak refused to see the will of the gods. Furthermore ,it's Kanak's own fault that the lack of knowledge about her, plus her family that has led to this ritual of apostasy!! Massi pulls a fast one , as she taunts ,but still wants to appear congenial before Uma, and falsely consoles Kanak, that she can phone her folks when she gets to the hotel! Mind you by now Kanak is well aware that they are on to finding out her family..
At the Rathi house, Vansh too is in the mood to out wit his grand parents to find out where the shops papers were. It's endearing the way he plays the rapid fire round with Bhabo so he can trick her into spilling the beans about the whereabouts of the missing shop's papers needed for the swift sale of the sale.Mind you it's interesting to see, that both the grandparents can see that Vansh is openly outsmarting them by using a comb in place of mobile to hoodwink them into believing he is chatting to Kanak. Bhabo can see clearly across the distance, and also she is able to say where she put the shop's papers. She seems right, its where they are meant to be... surely Vansh wonders, she may not be able to dupe him..so then where can the papers be? Ved shakes his head distastefully at Vansh for putting Bhabo through memory tests!! Whatever next??
It's like a family teaching and learning session when Maasi gives the definition of the purification ritual. Suman again wants to know its relevance. Dryly in the main, Massi answers her older than her age Suman, but really Massi is educating Kanak!well now Kanak knows about the three strands of the ritual whereby the husband and wife namely this ravan and herself will be united by health, wealth and.. but Massi censors the word body from Suman due to her age.. amusing, as Suman probably already knows all about the bees and the birds! the girl sure does pull a fast one over every one, unfortunately the early teens girl already succeeds inconstant acts of gossiping and tricking in her home.. As for Kanak she is far from amused by, this family trying to outwit her by snide clever and timely maneuver, where ever possible.. Massi! cannot dupe her as she can feel it in her bones, that great lengths are being taken to bring Uma Shankar and her together. Well Kanak muses before that happens she will outwit every one and fly from this cage with the precious papers!! but here she plans to fly away..but the gods in heaven have their hearts set on Uma and Kanak's bond. Her hankie slips and drops in aisle, she lowers her arm as her fingers grope for it.. but his palm to right away covers her and his long slender fingers get to her hankie. It is inevitable their eyes meet big bold brown eyes stare quizzically into each other , decoding some message that rises from the heart.. his heart beats, the lamp and the wick ,together give the light of love... they straighten up he offers her hankie too her , and she breaks the spell of enchantment by nearly snatching it out of his pincer grip. He looks at her , in resignation. He will soldier on stalwartly in this union ordained by the gods! Kanak stares back , on guard, she will not be taken in by his wooing.. she has her own agenda to follow! Although massi seems to derive a strange vicarious pleasure when ever she spots aclose proximity !or is it her chance to taunt Kanak , like now when she lapses into verse at their brief brush of fingers compared to heat... a burning, alike whether its a tiny scorching coal or the huge ball of fire the sun! That lights up the whole world.. clearly she compares Kanak to a burning coal, nothing in comparison to Uma the epitome of Surya!
The travelling party gets to the hotel . Palomi already invokes the gods for close contact with Uma, where by Kanak can see for herself, her significance in this house! Palomi can see that Maasi ,Suman are not too fond of Kanak. Thus when it comes to alighting from the minibus.. Palomi stands in the door way expecting Uma to assist her in getting down. Uma of course sets aside. Kanak on seeing him waiting , decides to ignore his help, tries to get down all by herself.. but then the gods have their ways! Her skirt gets stuck and she lurches forward unceremoniously , straight into his waiting arms!! She has too swallow her pride! and shortly he puts her down. She is in a bit of a huff, unimpressed by him and his carrying her episodes! Last time it was beginning of this continuing nightmare ,where by now she finds herself no less than a con artist! Palomi turns to look at Kanak and muses, such an ingrate this girl is, doesn't deserve the precious gold necklace of his strong brawny arms around her!! Its interesting to see how the mighty uma Shankar leads on to the hotel fully in command.. like his dasi follows Palomi right behind him ,devout..and behind Palomi , trails sluggishly fixing her dishevelled hair is good old Kanak!.. ariel view of the triangle Palomi will remain in the middle. What a pity he never bothered to find out what she is all about.. and such irony the one he goes for is simply nonchalant about the depth his of love..
As for Kanak one gets what one sees! She is not amused to see she will have to put up with Ravan in the same room! She argues the apostasy case with Maasi but massi heels her by saying that its inauspicious for married couple to stay apart! Palomi the burden carrier's significance is outwitted by Massi when she is ordered to take both Uma's and his other half Kanak's baggage to Uma's room!it's like Massi is showing Palomi her space! One in refuge!
Once inside her room ,Kanak spots a landline! Here massi half jokingly tries to trick and quizs Kanak into learning more about which city, telephone number belonged too. But by now, Kanak is well aware of the queen of deception by now, knows not to give way! Maasi looks out for every opportunity that she can find to catch Kanak out! and to top it all Maasi somehow makes it that the phone is out of order! I can bet she is involved in pulling a fast one here..tomorrow she clearly warns Kanak watch it.. she'll be following her every move ...Overall an interesting episode.. loved Uma's intelligent contributions upon mobiles.Want to see more outdoor shots of Kerela.. Massi's picking on Kanak is on the increase. and as for Palomi she is turning nasty too..I wonder if the baggage scene is instigated by Massi to isolate Kanak completely? hamlet53 10.5.17
