TSMSPJep:21:26.4.17: My Impression:opposites attract,or attack ?
In human behaviour and relationships, people veer towards people they find similarities with. Interaction seems smooth sailing with less hassle. On the other hand some hold the belief that in the long run interaction with the person one cannot see eye to eye with pans out better as one has to work harder for relationships to work. In today's episode, especially in the light of Shiv and Parvati, marriage two people different as chalk and cheese, makes me focus on Uma shanker and Kanak as a married couple. To begin with it is a marriage forced in the eyes of the law of the land ,as one person was unwilling and was clearly coerced. But nevertheless there is much hype even in Uma's household amongst some like Palomi ,Suman..to see the method in this marriage! The key ingredient is romance between the two.. seems lopsided at the moment! its Uma's idea not Kanak's.So what are the chances that this marriage is going to work like Suraj and Sandhya's? Well we can see that even though Kanak and Uma are poles apart ,they just might be attracted to each other on the basis of maturity levels, aspirations and family values they share. Having the same culture, and religious leanings in the long run may just bring them on the same page. Seemingly at the moment they are showing exact personality opposites, and any sort of relationship between them, especially from Kanak's side will require a high learning curve! Getting to know the orthodox Uma Shankar. The key for their relationship to work , to me, has to be more defined and often communicative skills. Also seeing that at the moment they appear to us an opposite couple.. one of them has to work harder at winning the love and trust of the other. Personally , I see Uma in that role. Kanak sees herself as being grossly wronged! Uma will have to allow her space to breath , come to terms with this shocking turn of events in her life! Now if we are to go in context, by the faith model of Lord Shiva and Parvati, and Suraj and Sandhya .Then Uma and Kanak will have to mutually recognize each other's individual needs, and more so ,to discern how best they can meet each other's needs? What adjustments will they make to accommodate each other. If all such happens, this opposite couple will be seen to strive for a strong lasting relationship, based on persevering true love.. that forms the basis of a marriage that not only survives but thrives! But till that happens there are immediate shaky bridges that these personality opposites have to cross, before they can begin to look at for each other's needs.
Looks like Bhabo will be unable to abide by her word given to mayank's liberal parents. Will this be yet another pot hole between Bhabo and Kanak's bond? Or will both accept this as a twist on fate? Kanak on the other hand already opposes Uma shankar's forced marriage outrage! upon her. She does not give her consent to the forced marriage. Uma continues through the hoops of ceremony and seals his marriage to her by the sacred signs of wedlock; mangalsutra and the vermillion. The flame and the light dispenser..one responsible for the other, together defeating darkness. A demented action! Kanak sees it as! She does not see eye to eye! with him! and runs away rather unceremoniously from all, him the lot! The wedding is done with a crowd load of witnesses. The bride's runaway spectacle is of no significance what so ever! what is done is done!.. the likes of Palomi speaks prophetic words.. she will stick around till she can find meaning in Uma shankars wedding! Maasi looks out for family respectability. A weakness that magnifies tenfold with the rich and famous to protect their good name! Uma squares his shoulders and his jaw..Uma has to do what Uma has to do!! Not let go of her till the end of time!
Kanak first port of call is an SOS to the strong hand of law! In this case her brother Ved! as divine intervention has it he turns up before her! outside the phone booth! Wielding the stiff message of lawful and unlawful actions. With the powers invested in him by the law and order services, Ved demands to know the whereabouts of Uma Shankar! Guilty of being involved in getting a girl married to a photograph! Ved is informed the real events behind Payal's wedding! A childhood marriage! And Ved slaps on yet another charge on Uma Shankar that qualifies for arrest for sure! Ved is only doing his duty..not moping for a love snatched away! Destiny makes its presence known. Ved suffers assault by pro Uma men! who later on blindly protect the medicine man's image! by sounding off Uma Shankar is anti use of violence!! wants love to win battles. Kanak is prevented from reaching her hurt brother by the nail entangled in her wedding dress in the phone booth..Symbolic that the bond forced upon her, leaves her joined, tacked to Uma till eternity? Pure hypocrisy seemingly ,in what is preached and what is commanded to his devotes to carry out. Both Kanak and Ved are gagged and treated like a pair of criminals! Henceforth Ved and Kanak do not meet, neither do they find the significance of Payal and Uma Shankar in their lives at this point in time.
In the grand scheme of things , everything in Uma's house is followed by the book to welcome the bride. For good domestic public relations, and positive imaging of the household. Payal as the younger SIL will perform the crossing the threshold arti! The hustle and bustle softens Uma's otherwise austere demeanour. He conceals well his emotions that his wife turned him down. In quiet confidence Uma Shankar knows what limits he can reach to make things look right! Gagged and hands tied Uma s bride is escorted back home to where she belongs. He maybe stern and firm ,but chivalry is not dead in him. The bride is given full decorum by the groom. He opens the car door and invites her to step out. That Uma sounds off ,for all in the street to hear, that he gives special allowances and courtesy to women, children and the elderly , softens his heart and he sets her free of the bind upon her mouth. Slowly with his palm on her bound palms he unwinds the rope.. unwinding the frigid disparity of huge differences between them. Poles apart.. opposites attract. As the husband he will have to work harder from now on at reaching out to her.
Fears and doom of forced marriage..echo, as Bhabo and Pavan in Puskar look through old photos and go down memory lane.. Sandhya and Suraj's wedding photo where the brides smile was missing. Fondly Bhabo recalls while her Suraj obeyed her every command and married Sandhya without knowing her.. Sandhya too trusted her brothers decision, unhappily though.The two had nothing in common, yet The marriage took place! As the two were destined to be together! and not even death could part them! To me this well may be a pointer to the difference between a love marriage, and an arranged marriage where the elders have a say in the marriage. But the consent of both boy and girl is sought. The arranged marriage comes with the hope that love between the husband and wife.. is a gradual process Suraj and Sandhya were the symbol of such a marriage. But the blow destiny has given Kanak is a marriage more so on the lines of a forced marriage where Kanak blatantly denounces !
Uma may not have known a woman before due to his orthodox mindset , but his heart is softens at the sight of his sandalwood fragrance wife. His otherwise aloof countenance shows a tender glow on his face. It if takes an heart felt apology to pacify or rather to convey the message that he is safe! Uma renders it with a veiled warning , that generally people fear him, but she doesn't have to. Politely asks her to disembark the car, or he with respect, offers to help. This for Kanak is much too much! after all the manhandling she suffered by his hands today.. revolts at the very thought of his touch!! and out she comes from the car. Uma's eyes look upon this grossly confused girl.. his wife! tears roll down her cheeks as her eyes cry and her brow wrinkles at the very sight of this cruel manic beast! He as her husband will from now work on to win her love and trust.. Uma pulls out his hankie and dabs up her tears from both her cheeks. Kanak glares at him, the crime which you committed in the name of faith, will never be wiped clean! But then Uma has left an eternal sign on her, and she on him, as colour fast till times to come. For Uma , as far as he is concerned today is auspicious, they got married according to the will of Lord Shiva ..kanak responds by more tears..the flame and the flame dispenser! giving the light of love.. two personality opposites! yet attracted to each other..
Another bold episode.. now what? The deed of marriage has gone through. How will things fall into place between them? Uma it seems has a soft centre , but the way this so called forced marriage is conducted ,just out of the blue! For Kanak its nothing but loathing she feels for him and his way of life!One more vow Uma gives to Kanak as a point of no return ,whether she accepts or not they are husband and wife as of now.. each other's shadow never to be separated!
