The LoC

Pakistani contestant refuses to say 'Har har Mahadev' or wear sleeveless dresses on music reality show

Sara Raza Khan
Sara Raza Khan, a Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2009 (Zee TV) participant from Lahore, has laid down some ground rules for the producers of the show. She has said that she will participate in the show only if she isn't asked to wear revealing outfits.

Sara confirms the news and says, "Ammijaan was a nervous wreck and was not very keen to send me to Mumbai, particularly because of the kind of clothes the women need to wear in front of the camera."

Says an insider from Zee TV, "It's true that girls are made to wear sexy outfits on shows. The glamour quotient is important. Today's girls have no problems, but there was an issue when we finished with the audition of Sara. She is a fine singer and we selected her, but she said that she will not indulge in body exposure."

Shankar Mahadevan, Sara's mentor, Sara Raza Khan
Sara adds, "I am not going to wear any sleeveless outfits or short dresses. And I will never drop the dupatta while doing the show. I must add that the scene is different in Pakistan; there people don't appreciate someone singing in reality shows. Though gradually they are coming around."

Another bone of contention was the fact that time and again Sara has to say, 'Har har Mahadev', which is the slogan of her mentor (in the show) Shankar Mahadevan's lakshya gharana. Santosh Shende, project head of the show, says, "Yes, Sara didn't want to say, 'Har har Mahadev'. But I guess she didn't know the meaning of the words. And yes, we did explain to her that it simply means 'God is one'."

many of the contestants are simple and down to earth but the moment they come to reality shows they don't mind wearing revealing clothes or mini skirts.mauli and sumedha poor girls had to listen to the channel I guess.

If they are coming to India to participate in such a reality show, i guess they should atleast be liberal enough say slogans such as "Har Har Mahadev". This show provides them with a lot of other opportunities which they might not get if they don't come to India. I guess if they want all these opportunities then they should be open to sligans such as "Har Har Mahadev" regardless of what they mean.

I personally think she has insulted Shivji by refusing to say "Har Har Mahadev", but that is just my personal opinion.

Bravo SArah Bravo..
You Have Made Us Proud(Pakistan)
As For Har Har Mahadev May Be She Didn't understand the meaning.......... (She anit used to hearing such words)
May Be She Was scared Of -----------------------
And Whats The Meaning.........
I don't know why girls are made to wear skimpy clothes......In If wearing skimpy clothes made you a great singer then Asha,Lata,Alka,Shreya,Sunidhi,Anuradha,Sadhana won't have such great singer...Skimpy clothes has nothing to with singing

i completely agree wid u. as 4 the clothes its fine if she even sings in a burqa. but she cannot refuse saying the slogan. its juzz 4 fun. whn asma can say mangal mai ho 4 jai ho y not sara. maybe she is afraid of reactions back home. but jeffery iqbal too said it too. i def feel its an insult n also it may result in less votes 4 her frm india.

I agree completely. Even we have no issues saying words such as "inshallah" or any other islamic words, then why should they have issues saying Hindu religious slogans? We live in 21st century, people need to change for good!

The show is about singing... what the contestant wears shouldn't be given importance really... it's more about the voice... if Sara doesn't want to wear revealing clothes... then that is perfectly her choice and she shouldn't have to
