Rohit Roy is ready for KBC now
At a time when film stars are raking in the moolah on KBC, can our television actors be far behind? Rohit Roy became the first television star to win the jackpot on Sahara One's newly revamped Dial One Aur Jeeto on Monday night. Shekhar Suman, who replaced Aman Verma as the host of the show, was introduced to viewers on the same episode.
Rohit is very excited at having won and says, "It is absolutely fantastic. I am so thrilled at having won so many prizes." He lists them, "I got a car, a Tata Indigo Marina car, a lakh and a half worth of jewellery, a colour TV, a DVD player, a microwave oven, etc."
This is the first time the actor has won on any game show and he says, "I am particularly unlucky when it comes to lucky draws, games, etc. I have never achieved anything without having to slog for it. So this win has really put me on a high. Manasi and the rest of my family are equally jubilant."
"I got invited by the channel to appear on the show a week ago. I am quite a voracious reader and am addicted to newspapers. My general knowledge is fine but not good enough to score points in a game show. In fact, I was quite nervous before the show as I did not want to make an ass of myself on air. But once things started going, I felt better," Rohit adds.
It was not smooth sailing for him all the way though as he did get stuck, especially over questions on Hindu mythology.
The clincher, however, was a question on cricket. Rohit got that promptly. And now, he says, "The next stop for me is KBC. Why should only film stars make money on game shows? It's high time TV actors caught up."
Rohit is considering sharing his goodies with family and friends, "We already have these household gadgets so I can afford to share them. I quite like the car though and have decided to keep it…although Manasi and I do have a black Jeep Cherokee and a Honda City between us."
Rohit signs off on a rather triumphant note, saying, "Last month I went on to Fear Factor and got chucked out in the first round itself. So I felt quite bad…but now I am very delighted."
