A few days back Sanjay Dutt and Manyata donated six lakhs to the Masina hospital so that children injured in Jogeshwari blasts could get their treatment completed. This just reminds us of the fact that, Bollywood is never bereft of generous stars. We give you a lowdown on the charity works of the rich and famous.

Shah Rukh Khan is a regular at making donations to Nanavati hospital. He has a special reason to do it as both of his parents breathed their last in the hospital. The last time he donated, it was fifty lakhs and it helped open a new section for children in the hospital. Shah Rukh said, "I do not like to talk about charity but Nanavati people were very sweet that they put my mother's name for the cancer aid for children. It gets embarrassing when I talk about it but my dream is to open a fully advanced hospital."

Aishwarya Rai made sure her beautiful eyes get to see this world long after she went to a better place by pledging to donate it to the Eye Bank Association of India. She even appeared in an ad film to spread public awareness on eye donation. In the year 2004, she created the Aishwarya Rai Foundation which works to support the needy people of our country. She and pa-in-law Amitabh Bachchan created news when they visited a specialist charity centre in Leeds, UK.

Salman Khan though known for his notorious activities is not far behind in doing charity work. He is actively involved in his own charity foundation named after himself and also another one named "Being Human." Recently he auctioned his paintings, the proceeds, of which all went for charity. He is now in the process of opening his clothing line which will have t-shirts with his paintings on them. The sale of these t-shirts too will fund the two charity organizations that he supports. Salman was also in news when he donated 1,00,000 rupees for the treatment of a four-year-old cancer patient named Sahara Shaha.

Preity Zinta is one lady who is always eager to do community work. She even had Shah Rukh Khan and Ness Wadia sweep the streets of Mumbai in her cleanliness drive. Later she installed high quality plastic bins, which unluckily got stolen. She also took to painting along with artist Gurcharan Singh supporting the NGO Khushi that works for the welfare of street children.

Akshay Kumar was conferred the honorary doctor of law degree for his film and charity work by the Assumption University in Ontario, Canada. Akshay contributed to the United Nations' efforts to increase awareness about global human trafficking by appearing in a two-minute short film called One Life, No Price. He also made joint efforts with Ashley Judd to promote the use of emergency contraception in Rajasthan. He is also the international ambassador of Paralympics and has helped raise money for Trillium Health Care Center in Mississauga and the Vancouver Children's Hospital in Canada.

Shilpa Shetty supports four charity foundations. They are Cry (Child Rights and You), Silver Star (a British charity foundation dedicated to cause of diabetes), Shilpa Shetty Foundation and Heroes Project both of which work to spread HIV and AIDS awareness in India as well as working to remove the social stigma attached to the disease. She also supports PETA; Shilpa visited rural areas of Maharastra with Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort of Harry Potter) and visited Jaipur with Richard Gere just to promote the cause of HIV and AIDS. Recently, she auctioned two bottles of her perfume S2( S Squared) for charity. The two bottles fetched a whopping 20,888,70 rupees. The prize money that she won in British reality television show Big Brother also went for charity.

The hottest vegan in B-town John Abraham is also an ardent supporter of PETA. John's mother is a social worker so he is seen extending his support for many charity functions. John made a record of gathering five lakh rupees in five minutes at an animal activist event.

Rakhi Sawant does charity in her own style. She also posed for a PETA campaign against caging of animals dressed in nothing but a bikini and a coat of paint. She donated blood during the Mumbai blasts and also donated money for the treatment of blast victims. She also made an effort to donate blankets, computers and certain other stuff to the inmates. But sadly, she was turned away by the authorities stating lack of proper permission.

thats so sweet of everyone,I';ve never heard about SRK doing any charity work,nice to know,and I always hear about Salu donating something or the other,he seems to be a very sweet and caring person,and John being a vegan is definitely not a surprise.It's so nice knowing that he cares so much about animals.
