Bollywood and it's story endings....

The majority of Bollywood films, all end with a happy ending....they leave you with the feel good factor, so it can often ensure a films success.

Are there any films that have ended on a sad note, yet been successful? (i.e where all the lead characters remain alive, and the ending is sad yet upbeat)

Both happy and sad endings are successful in Hollywood...but i can't seem to find any in Bollywood. Any ideas?

(The only one i can think of is Mughal-e-Azam)

In "Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro" which is a comedy movie Truth doesnt win at the end but Corruption wins......protagonist ends up in jail at the end .....actually this movie showed the real picture of society

another is Rang De Basanti i can say

Omrao jaan doesnt have happy ending

"Fanaa" where Aamir dies at the end

in "Jaane bhi do Yaaro" no one dies
