Mithun: Myth breaker_Akki-SRK forgotten

The story goes that when Mithun Chakraborty reached the sets to shoot for Om Shanti Om's special appearance song where half the industry put in an appearance, the crew went berserk.

A junior crew person jumped in front of Mithun and Shah Rukh, handed the Badshah of the industry a camera and asked him to click a picture of his with Mithunda! And there is no questioning the story after what AT saw at Chandni Chowk the other day. The moment Mithun reached the rooftop of a house, the area erupted in the chants of 'I am a disco dancer'. The presence of superstar Akshay Kumar, who is also shooting with Mithun for Chandni Chowk to China , was forgotten in the frenzy!

Mithun did his famous Disco Dancer jig which was immediately captured in mobile phone cameras by people all around him. "Itne door se mera picture milega?" he laughed and added, "Earlier I was wondering how they'll shoot in Chandni Chowk, but the crowd here is very nice and disciplined."

And what makes him such a phenomenon amongst the masses? "That is because I am the guy next door, the myth breaker. Main na ummeed ki ummeed hoon! When people look at me, they say, 'If Mithun can do it, so can I.' Maybe because I have never had a godfather in the industry, and the fact that I have done all kinds of roles," he says, and goes on to explain, "It was thought that dark-skinned heroes can't make it in Bollywood, I broke that myth. It was said that India won't take to disco-dancing, I broke that myth. And despite being a commercial actor who catered to the masses, I managed to gave performances that fetched me three national awards."

And even today, the man is keeping himself busy with acting and his hotel business. "I love to cook, do gardening and I also love animals. I have hotels that I make sure do well. I am like any other businessman today," he says. Mithun's son Mimoh will soon be making his debut in movies. "Well, the difference between him and me is that when I entered the industry, I did not have a roof over my head. He does! But I have to confess that he is a delight to watch when he dances. He is 25 per cent better than me."
