Part 28

That week Bani and Jai only met in the office. They had lunch together like before and discussed projects, official work and their future. Throughout the week Bani spent an evening in Walia Mansion, and had dinner but did not interact a lot with Jai. both of them were stealing glances across the table, concentrating more on each other then on their food, but trying genuinely not to make the family members uncomfortable. Pia and Rano were exceptionally quiet during that dinner. They did not like Jai and Bani being together, and even if Bani and Jai were not talking to each other or sitting next to each other, Pia and Rano were having problems with the idea. After dinner Bani decide to have a talk with both her sisiter and even Ranveer, who was refusing to talk to Jai because of the whole situation. Pia and Rano were at least showing some respect towards Jai but Ranveer, who was quite stubborn, was avoiding Jai.

Pia and Rano tried to convince Bani to end her relationship for different reasons.
Rano was afraid about Bani's reputation, pia about the Walia reputation.
Rano was concerned about Bani's future and position, Pia was concerned about her and Rano's position and future as Walia bahu's.
Rano wanted her sister to have her own house and love which was not possible as long as Nikita was in the picture, Pia was concerned, and quite naturally as a married lady, about her house. Bani convinced, or at least tried to convince both of them that she had thought a lot about her decision and she wanted Jai next to her, even if it was like this. She tried to show them that she loved Jai a lot and he loved her too. As long as he was by her side she would not have to worry about anything. Bani told them she never thought to get married, or even fall in love. Her life revolved around Pia and Rano and she thought it would be that way until Jai came in her life. She got his love and respect and that was more then she ever expected and more then most women got. Everything that he would give her after this would be pure an add on. In clear terms she told Rano, Ranveer and Pia that this was her decision, that she would not change it and she made it after a lot of consideration and with the blessing of the elders. Bani gave them the choice to either accept her decision or refuse it but either way she was not going to leave Jai and she expected the three of them to respect Jai the same as before and make sure nobody would get a chance to disrespect him in any way because of their personal problems. Having said that Bani left her old bedroom were she was talking to them. When the three of them came down she saw Ranveer making an effort to talk to Jai like always. Rano and Pia were not glaring at Bani and Jai, well at least Rano was smiling more often. Pia would need her time to come around. Mausi, Karuna and Jigyasa were teasing Bani when nobody was looking and Aditya and Tarun were talking normally to Jai, but not before Tarun had asked Bani if she was truly happy.

Friday came and Bani and Jai were in his office as usual discussing some project. Jai silently left a note on her desk.

Eight o' clock tonight. In front of your apartment! Pack bags!!

Seeing Bani smile while entering his cabin he knew she got his message. If only he could throw out his manager sitting in front of him and hug her. Jai sighed and continued to listen to the rambling of his manager.

Bani returned home earlier that day to pack. Jai had a meeting and was taking Aditya with him as Bani never had dealt with this new company and Jai wasn't to keen on taking her along with him. The CEO was a major flirt. Jai never sent a woman from his company to him and Bani was totally out of the question now. Exactly at eight she got a message on her phone

I'm waiting!!

Bani turned off the lights in her apartment, grabbed her bag and locked the door. She almost ran outside. on the corner of the street she saw Jai's car and Jai waving at her. Bani walked towards the car and the first thing she heard when she stepped in the car was:

'Hi Jaan.'
She looked at Jai and saw his smiling face. A bit red she returned his smile along with a shy 'Hi.'
His gaze was making her uncomfortable, but in a nice way. He was looking at her with such an intensity as if he could look straight through her. Bani felt the so called butterflies in her stomach. Jai could not keep his gaze of her. He saw her a few hours ago, but seeing Bani in her salwaar kameez, with her hair down and with the blush on her cheeks was a welcome sight for his eyes. His chain of thoughts got broken when her heard a soft voice say
'don't we have to go?'

Jai sighed and drove off. After a quite ride to the cottage (Bani fell asleep halfway and it was wonder Jai did not get involved in an accident when he was looking at her all the time) Jai stopped the car in front of the cottage. The lack of movement made Bani wake up. Both of them got out of the car. Jai and Bani walked up to the front doot. Bani waited for Jai to open the door when she saw a pair of keys dangling in front of her face.
'You open the door Bani.'
Bani looked at Jai in amazement. Jai gave her an encouraging nod.
'These are your keys. Aaj se yeh ghar tumhara hai Bani.'
Bani kept looking at the keys. Jai took her hand, placed the keys in it and opened the door with her hand when he saw that Bani was not moving. He lifted Bani in his arms and carried her and her bag over the threshold, like he wanted to do.
Bani was still silent. Jai put her down in the living room. Jai pulled out some papers from his pocket. 'Bani I need your sign on this paper. Aaj se yeh ghar tumhara hai, aur shares me kuch changes kiye hai, tumhare naam.'
Looking at her face he knew he did something wrong. She was too quiet and looking at him without blinking.
Jai tried to brush away a lock of hair from her face when she slapped his hand away.
'Yeh sab kya hai?'Bani asked in a very angry tone.
Jai tried to look as confused and innocent as possible.
' Kuch nahin, It's just a formality. I want your signatures on these.' Jai pointed towards the papers on the dining table.
'Kyu?'
' So the house will be yours.'
'Why?'
'Because I want it to be yours Bani! Aur ab yeh 'kyu' aur 'why'ki rat mat lagaana.'
Bani had wrapped her arms around her and was still looking at the papers in front of her. Jai decided to take his chances and hugged her from behind.
'Please sign kardo na.' he whispered.
'no!'
Bani got out of his embrace and walked towards the kitchen. She filled a glass with water and started drinking. Jai came in and was looking at her puzzled.
'Kyu? Why won't you sign?'
'Just like that.' Was the reply he got.
'Why?'
'Because I don't want it.'
'Bani! I am not asking you, I'm telling you: sign the damn papers!!!'
The raging bull was back! Like always, not shouting but using his most authorative and ice cold tone, emphasising every syllable at the time, that would even make the devil run for him. He wanted something and he was sure he was going to get it. At least that is what he thought! Saying that the girl in front of him was least impressed by his angry young man performance was an understatement. Without a trace of fear she answered in her normal soft voice.
'Don't use that tone with me. And I'm also telling you that I am not going to sign anything.'
She was faking. Jai's voice made her tremble with fear, but she did not want to be weak at this point. It helped because Jai was so surprised by the calmness she portrayed that he forgot to use that tone at her again.
'But why Bani?'
Bani turned around. 'yeh ghar aap ka hai, aap ke parents ne kharida hai. Don't you think you should share this with Jigyasa aunty and Tarun Uncle. They have a right to this house too. It holds memories to them, I know that. Why should you give this to me?'
Jai walked towards her and made her face him.
'Don't you think I have asked them before I decided this. They agreed. They never come here. Jigyasa got papa's house in Goa and Tarun got his father's house. This is my share and I want to share it with you.'
'Why do you want to share it with me? I don't need all this. It makes me feel so……… weird.'
Weird was not the word Bani wanted to say, but stating that it made her feel cheap was not something she wanted to share with Jai.
'Bani, you don't need all this, I know that. You don't need the shares in the company, I know that too, but I need to do this for you. I feel so worthless and disgusting sitting around and waiting for three years till I can make our relationship official. Agar in teen saalon me mujhe kuch hogaya to maine aise to kuch kiya hoga jiski wajah se tum apni zindagi aaraam se bita sako. I am not doing this for you, I am doing this for my peace of mind.'
Bani walked away toward the dining area. She looked at the papers once again,
'Will this give you peace of mind?'
Jai nodded his head in affirmative.
'And what will you do when I say that it will rob me of mine?'
'What do you mean Bani?'
' I mean to say that I don't have any rights to your property and I wont accept this or anything else. I mean to say that I am not a bimbo that can't take care of herself and I also mean to say that if you don't stop talking about something happening to you I will walk out the front door right now.'
This was definitely one side of Bani that Jai did not know. He would not admit it at that moment but he fell in love with this side of her too although it was making him mad at the moment.
'Bani, stop being childish and sign the papers! I don't have eternal life and I don't know what will happen tomorrow. I just know that I want you to be okay. I am feeling useless as it is. Tumhare saat rehkar I can't do anything for you. That is why I am taking all these legal steps, I feel like I am using you.'
'So what! You decided to pay me and get rid of your so called guilt?' Bani blurted out.

An eerie silence crept into the room. Bani stormed out of the room towards the garden. Jai stormed out in the opposite direction, got out of the cottage and took off in his car.
The papers were still lying on the dining table.

Wow, good update. Their first fight......

I know where Bani is coming from and Jai should listen to this, he could do this through a will too and it wouldn't seem so cheap then. He knows Bani is capable of taking care of herself and he should respect that.

Liked how Bani decided to Pia, Rano and Ranveer to be reasonable and not ignore Jai...like she said this rishta has the blessing of the elder.

Now I wonder if there is going to be a compromise......
