Here are some interesting tales from the sets of director Imtiaz Ali's movie Jab We Met which releases on Friday.
The movie, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor , tells the story of two strangers who meet on a train and become traveling companions for a journey that takes them far but also brings them closer to each other.
The film has been shot at various locations in India – including Mumbai, Rajasthan, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. And during its making, several interesting incidents took place.
WHEN SHAHID COULDN'T GET INTIMATE WITH BEBO
A very funny incident happened while shooting an intimate scene between Shahid and Kareena. The day the scene was to be shot Shahid was all charged up. But then his father Pankaj Kapur walked in and sat before the monitor to evaluate Shahid's performance. This made Shahid nervous. Seeing his father – an authority on acting – judge his performance, Shahid couldn't stoke enough passion for Kareena. So when he couldn't get the shot right after repeated takes, Shahid walked up to his father and had a few private words. The senior Kapur moved away from the monitor. It was only then Shahid was able to give a perfect shot. After the shot, while everyone made fun of him, Shahid was a tad embarrassed.
KAREENA'S DARE DEVILRY
Kareena Kapoor showed remarkable courage while shooting a scene in which she hops onto a moving train.
The scene shows Kareena running after a moving train. Shahid holds out his hand to her from the train. She takes his hand and jumps into the moving train. However, Bebo was very nervous while shooting this scene because she had never boarded a train before, far from running after one and jumping into it. When she faltered a few times while shooting the scene, director Imtiaz Ali thought of using a body double. But Bebo was adamant to get the shot right. And after a few retakes she did get it right.
SHAHID'S LOOK
Shahid's look in the film is designed by Shabina Khan. Since Shahid plays a rich industrialist going through a low phase in life, Shabina gave Shahid elegant Armani suits with subdued colours. However, Shahid and Shabina were at loggerheads many times over his look in the film. For instance, for the Punjabi song 'Mauja Mauja', Shabina wanted to give Shahid a short jacket but the actor wanted a long one. After a lengthy argument the two made a compromise and settled for a thigh-length jacket.
ALTITUDE SICKNESS
The film features a song that was shot at Rohtang Pass, which is at the height of 13,400 feet. However, when the crew made the ascent from their Manali resort, they felt altitude sickness upon reaching Rohtang Pass. Shahid and Kareena reportedly felt dizzy and were not in best of moods to shoot the song. So, director Imtiaz Ali called off the shoot and used the day for letting the crew get acclimatized to the height of Rohtang Pass.
SCORCHING HEAT
While on the one hand, the film features sequences shot in sub-zero temperatures, on the other, there are scenes shot in the scorching heat of Rajasthan. A song sequence was shot in the sweltering heat of 50 degree Celsius in Mandava near Jaipur. Special air conditioned vans and buses were called in to prevent the actors and unitmembers from heat stroke. So desperate was everyone in the unit to escape the heat that they wrapped up the shoot in mere two days instead of four.
