It started with PARTNER eight weeks ago. Then HEYY BABYY three weeks back. It's DHAMAAL now. Howlariously funny, Indra Kumar's latest outing completes the hat-trick of laughathons that succeed in entertaining you from start to end. Like its predecessors, DHAMAAL is abundantly rich in humor and most importantly, has the right set of actors to carry off those roles with aplomb.

DHAMAAL lives up to its title. It's non-stop dhamaal for the next two hours. Sure, there're inane situations and jokes that cater to the popular tastes, but when did Indra Kumar and his team of writers [Paritosh Painter, Balwinder Suri, Bunty Rathore] ever set out to challenge Einstein? The mantra is simple: Let the auditorium reverberate with laughter. And DHAMAAL succeeds in its mission!

Write your own movie review of Dhamaal
Any hiccups? The post-interval portions aren't as funny as the first hour. More on that later! But the film works in totality and that's what matters at the end of the day. With MASTI, Indra Kumar proved that he knows how to tickle the funny bone. With PYARE MOHAN, he tripped and ended up bruising himself. With DHAMAAL, he sprints back to the junta's hearts.

So what's the final word then? Go, watch DHAMAAL and have dhamaal. But do carry a rumaal since this madcap comedy is quite kamaal in parts. You'd cry laughing!

Roy [Riteish Deshmukh] believes that he is the best detective in the world. Manav [Javed Jaffrey] actually happens to be the biggest idiot in the world, but is blissfully unaware about it. His brother Adi's [Arshad Warsi] half knowledge about everything only adds to the great expertise of this group. The final component is Boman [Aashish Chowdhary], who's Mr. Scared.

These four idiots live and work together. Their idea of work? Doing small-time con jobs! The thought of earning an honest living has never even crossed their minds. One day, while trying to save a dying man, Bose [Prem Chopra], they get their big break. Their life is made! Unfortunately for them, Inspector Kabir [Sanjay Dutt] has been chasing Bose for the last ten years. He finally finds him. Only dead!

Desperate for his promotion, he questions the suspicious-looking foursome he finds next to the body. Inadvertently, they blurt out the secret before managing to escape. Now begins a marathon chase.

DHAMAAL begins with gusto. The introduction of the four characters at the very start makes the viewer aware of what to expect from each of them. The sequences that follow [taking the horse painting at condolence meetings] are rip-roaringly funny. Ditto for the sequence when they're mistaken as gangsters and arrested by the cop [Murli Sharma]. Another sequence that's sure to bring the house down is Asrani's vintage car going up in flames and also Sanju tying the four to a tree. The first hour rocks big time!

The writers continue to inject humor in the second hour as well. Only thing, the jokes work at times, but look forced at places. Take, for instance, the track of the robbers inside a bus and their interaction with Ritesh. Non-happening! The aircraft portion [Asrani, Aashish] is excellent, but one should know where to end a joke. Never stretch it beyond a point, but the writers do. Resultantly, the impact gets diluted. Sanju's accident and the entire cliff track, again, is mediocre. The search for the 'Big W' in the park, beneath which lies the treasure, is funny, not hilarious.

Directorially, Indra Kumar is in form. Opting for a new team of writers this time around, he gets it right on most occasions. The two songs at the very start [Adnan Sami] are interesting. Vijay Arora's cinematography is nice. Dialogues are excellent.

The one performance that stands out from the rest is that of Javed Jaffrey's. He's magnificent in a role that seems tailor-made for him. What timing! The viewers are sure to go into raptures. Arshad Warsi is not in his element. Also, why is he looking so tired? Ritesh Deshmukh is dependable yet again, although his track suffers in the second hour because it lacks meat. Aashish Chowdhary is a revelation. Confident and easygoing, he shows a flair for comedy. Sanjay Dutt is alright. Asrani is mind-blowing. It's a treat to watch this veteran in a meaty role again. Suhasini Mulay, as the landlady, is first-rate.

On the whole, DHAMAAL is one joyride that should keep its investors smiling!

Dhamaal

07 Sep, 2007 02:59 pm ISTlPraveen Lance Fernandes/INDIATIMES MOVIES

Cast: Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Riteish Deshmukh, Javed Jaffery, Ashish Choudhary, Asrani.
Director: Indra Kumar
Music: Adnan Sami
Rating: ***

Backed by some of the best comic actors in the country, the regular Hindi film buff expectations would be huge before watching this film. And he doesn't have any reason to be disappointed as they are met with complete satisfaction. It's mad, it's insane, and it's complete Dhamaal.

Adi (Arshad Warsi), Manav (Javed Jaffery), Roy (Riteish Deshmukh) and Boman (Ashish Choudhary) are four friends without jobs- Not that they are looking out for one. Trying their luck with con-jobs, they are now running away from the cops when they come across a car accident. The man in the car Bose (Prem Chopra) reveals in his dying breath of a treasure he had hidden in Goa to the four. Immediately after his death enters Inspector Kabir (Sanjay Dutt) who wants to know the whereabouts of the treasure from the four but they manage to escape. Now all the five are after the treasure and joined by Boman's father Nari Contractor (Asrani), they all make their way to Goa. What follows is a complete comedy of errors.

From drunk pilots to hot air balloons, from robbed cars to hijacked buses, from empty wallets to hidden treasure, this film has it all. Armed with a bagful of jokes, funny dialogues and comical situations, the film is just what the doctor ordered.

Dhamaal is probably the best title director Indra Kumar and his team of writers could have come up with. It's not trying hard to make you laugh, it makes you laugh hard.
The film defies logic and if you belong to Newton's school of thought, then please loosen up and enjoy this laugh riot.

There are so many funny portion and they just don't seem to end. The parts between Ashish Choudhary and Asrani are hilarious. Javed Jaffrey's constant idiotism is amazing while Riteish's running away from dacoits is rib-tickling.

The second half slows down a bit though it's not a complete damper. Some dialogues do fall flat but then with better situations coming up almost immediately, you end up forgetting them.

Indra Kumar is back once again with another comedy and its works big time. Kudos to him for not including too many songs in the film which would have just slowed down the movie. Adnan Sami's songs are just about OK.

If Javed Jaffery's talent was wasted in last week's Victoria No. 203 , then you have to watch out for him in Dhamaal . One of the prime reasons of getting everyone in trouble, the character sketched out for him is perfect. Only one complaint – why does he wear that hideous costume? Riteish Deshmukh follows up his Heyy Babyy act with this one and we all know what his comic capabilities are and the same goes for Arshad Warsi as well. If you hated Ashish Choudhary in Fight Club , then you will have to change you mind when you see him in this one. Teaming up with Asrani, the two show us the most hilarious father-son chemistry. Sanjay Dutt as Kabir is quite good though you feel he does the same thing in comedy and in serious films as well. The other characters comprising of Sanjay Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Prem Chopra, Suhasini Mulay, Tiku Talsania, Murli Sharma and Vijay Raaz do a very good job in supporting the proceedings

Indra Kumar's last film Pyare Mohan could not strike a chord with the audience but having learnt from his mistakes, he has gone all out this time. Heyy Babyy won because of a good script and competent performances and Dhamaal completely follows that formula. Bigger cast, bigger budget and bigger comedy – that is what you have here. Take your family out on this joyride and have the time of your life.

Dhamaal movie!

Syed Firdaus Ashraf

Indra Kumar's film is true to its name, and is a senseless comedy in which three of the actors -- Riteish Deshmukh [Images], Jaaved Jaaferi and Aashish Choudhary are a treat to watch.

Supporting them in this laugh riot is Inspector Kabir (Sanjay Dutt [Images]). Arshad Warsi, however, looks lost in the film; one gets the feeling his heart isn't quite in it.

A loose copy of the Hollywood film It's a Mad Mad World, Dhamaal works very well because of one-liners and the comedy.

A dying gangster Bose (Prem Chopra) shares a secret to four unemployed youth about his life's savings -- Rs 10 crore -- hidden in a graveyard in Goa. Indra Kumar injects humour even in this tragic scene. Watch Riteish interacting with the gangster. He provides more comedy later when he mimics Sanjeev Kumar while holding a gun. But Jaaved Jaaferi beats them all. He is, by far, the funniest of the cast.

The story has nothing unusual. As the film progresses, the friends quarrel with each other and go their separate ways to hunt for the booty. Inspector Kabir is also searching for the booty, and he is brilliant.

The rest of the cast -- Paritosh Painter, Balwinder Suri, Asrani and Bunty Rathore -- are also very good, and the way Indra Kumar weaves in different comic characters is brilliant.

newActors like Vijay Raaz (as the Air Traffic Controller who tries to give directions to a plane that has lost its pilot, Manoj Pahwa, to binge drinking), and Sanjay Mishra (a dacoit) take the film to another level.

However, the film could have been tighter. Editor Sanjay Sankla should have been better with the scissors.

Besides, the story doesn't run too deep. It is never explained how the four good-for-nothing blokes become friends in the first place.

Despite the minor flaws though, Dhamaal is similar to David Dhawan's brand of comedies: Fully dhamaal!

Dhamaal : Movie Review

07th Sept 2007 20.45 IST
By Nikhil Kumar

Indra Kumar's movie Dhamaal is a full timepass entertainer that tickles your funny bone and leaves you with a broad smile on your face.

In this season of successful comedies, 'Dhamaal' brings in more cheers. The movie, starring Ritesh Deshmukh , Arshad Warsi , Javed Jaffrey , Ashish Choudhary , Asrani and Sanjay Dutt , is packed with plenty of funny situations with hilarious twists. The comedy in the film is not cerebral. It is a cocktail of slapstick and wit. And the cocktail really works.

The movie tells the story of four good-for-nothing guys. Roy (Ritesh) thinks he has the mind of a detective. Adi (Arshad Warsi) believes he knows about everything under the sun. His younger brother Manav (Javed) is an idiot. The fourth guy, Boman (Ashish), is a phattu.

The lives of the four friends turn around when a dying man tells them about a huge amount of money hidden in a graveyard. But, on a close trail is inspector Kabir (Sanjay Dutt).

'Dhamaal' progresses through several hilarious situations as the four friends search for the booty. Their search is fraught with dangers they are not prepared to face.

The movie works primarily because of performances by its starcast. The funniest of the lot is Javed Jaffrey, who, with his imbecilic humour, brings the house down. A close second is Ritesh Deshmukh whose natural flair for comedy injects dollops of humour in the narrative. Sadly, Arshad Warsi is out of form this time. His performance doesn't have his involvement and energy. Ashish Choudhary is better than him. Ashish does show his flair in some scenes.

Asrani, too, displays his impeccable comic timing. The veteran gets ample footage in the film and it is a delight to see him entertain yet again. Sanjay Dutt is just about okay.

On the sidelines, Vijay Raaj, Manoj Pahwa and Sanjay Mishra chip in their brand of humour.

Director Indra Kumar is in his elements again after Masti . His last film Pyare Mohan was an aberration, but this time Indra Kumar gets many things right.

Right from the start, when the characters are introduced, 'Dhamaal' makes its intentions clear, that is to provide unadulterated entertainment. As it turns out, the first half is truly funny. The sequences involving the four friends, and Asrani, will have you in splits. The hilarity continues in the second half with the pilotless plane sequence, or the penultimate scene when all the characters search for booty in a graveyard.

'Dhamaal' doesn't really boast of exceptional music, but the songs are passable and up to the mood of the film. The cinematography is fine but editing is a bit slack at times.

All in all, 'Dhamaal' ends up as a paisa vasool entertainer.

PLease go watch it. It's a MUST MUST MUST!

It's so uproariously funny that you are going hold your sides aching from laughter.

My throat actually dried up and I could not even follow the dialouges properly I was laughing so hard.....we had to rewind so many scenes because we were so busy laughing that we missed what happened next..... 🤣

Don't look for logic...but the director has made illogical situations but kept an eye on detail......the mere expressions on Javed Jaffery (he is the show stealer) and Ritesh Deshmukh's face are enough to send you on laughing sprees. Even Asrani was funny without being over the top.

The only sequence which was a bit drawn out was Vijay Raaj one. But even then it was hillarious.

It's not a deep story. Four funtoosh guys, broke, keep cooking up schemes to earn money. When they do manage to earn, they blow it up in nightclubs, and are back to square one. In one such scheme, they get caught, and from there begins their journey of non stop dhamaal.

Watch out for the car sequence........it's one of a kind.

A total total dhamaal!
