What is Lip Synching?

Lip-sync or Lip-synch (short for lip synchronization) is a technical term for matching lip movements with voice. The term refers both to a technique often used during musical performances and the production of film and Television programs, and to the problem of maintaining video and audio signals synchronized during post-production and transmission. It is also used to match lip movements of animated characters

Whole focus here Live Singing Concerts.

Latest controversy Britney Spears in her recent concert was lip synching a song while the track skipped couple of times was evident she was not singing live.

Debate: Is it justifiable to the people paying so much for LIVE concert that the singer celebrity just Lip syncs instead of actually singing?

More Questions:

Have you been in a concert and observed the same?

Does it make a difference to you as audience who pays for live concert and hear some live narrations and rest are recorded songs?

I am not a big fan of lip sync ..
infact I don't like it at all ..
have been in concerts where both live and lip syn was performed by two different artists and I must say I found live one much better..
after all we go there to enjoy live performances so find lip sync a kind of cheating 😊

I don't like Lip sync or even singing on kareoke. I love singers who perform live with live band. It is totally different enjoyment. Not only I appreciate the singer but show some appreciation for musicians who work so hard at it. 👏 👏 👏

Yeah i haeard abt Britney, I do nit like Lyp syns,

Whats the point in us paying so much to see the 'sing live' when in fact all they are doing is standing their with a mic.

And yes, it is more enjoyable the person singing live... 😛 and gets audience involved too. Plus more appreciation if they do sing live.

Moreover, what is the point in recorded songs being played, i can do that at home, 😆

Play songs on my Laptop, Blast the music Loud syle, provising no one is around) 😳

It saves money to the organizers and time to singers as they do not have to practise.
Gone are the days when concert was to entertain and give rich music to audience. now concerts are only money raising charities for the singers and organizers

As it is mentioned in the Britney article, she is a performer and fabs come to see her perform .So it doesn't matter much if she is singing live or lip synching. When an established performer has created a brand for themeselves, it is sine if they lip sync a part of their concert. It adds the fun factor to it.
Fans also watch the videos and and expect the singer to give a dance performance like the video sometimes.
Now if it was a pure singer then we would be wasting money for the lip syncing part. Now if we want Sonu to get wet in the rain like the Chanda ki doli video and sing , that is not possible right?

Just wanted to bring in some opposing POV as everyone seems to be agreeing here.Making it a little more chatpata thats all.😛

Off topic, Am missing Soumya here. He would bring an opposing POV for the sake of the debate.👏

Tania, I have been to Sonu's concerts. He does not lip synch even while dancing to a number like "Bijuriya". It is possible to perform and sing live, and Sonu is a great example of that. How am I so sure he didn't lip synch in his concerts? He always made it a point to sing the song slightly differently from the recorded version - an extra harkat, an extended alaap, bringing in new words!!!

That's why I would feel cheated if someone lip synched when I had paid a small ransom to get the front row.
