FIVE Horcruxes Left...?

Hey everyone..

so i was recently re-reading the 6th book and i noticed something about the horcruxes..... dumbledore says that riddle has 7 horcruxes total : the diary, the ring, the locket, hufflepuff's cup, something of ravenclaw's and/or something of gryffindor's, the snake and/or something else, and the one in his body.. that makes a total of 7

but i was thinking... when voldemort tried to kill harry, and the avada kedavra curse re-bounded upon voldemort, shouldnt the part of the soul that was in his body at the time be destroyed? because each part of the soul is still mortal, right, meaning that part should have been killed by his own curse... then that means there's only 5 more horcruxes to deal with, plus the one in voldemort's new body

conclusion: doesnt harry only have to look for 5 more now?

=D

Nice thoughts and nice topic..!! 😊

Nope, his soul isn't destroyed because the Avada Kedavra curse didn't kill Voldemort, it just reduced him to a mere being until he revived himself....

And, correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't there only 4 Horcruxes left to look for? Aren't the diary, ring, and locket already found?

So it would essentially mean , three more horcruxes have to be found! ( Guessing the trophies of the three houses of Hogwarts apart from Slytherin..)

so does that mean the soul that was in voldemort before he tried to kill the one-year-old harry and the soul that was in the baby-like creature who regained the body in the 4th book are the same?... so overall, only 2 (maybe 3) parts of voldemort's soul are destroyed: the diary, the ring, and maybe the locket's soul, if RAB succeeded.....

Umm...no...read HBP carefully...Dumbledore explained it clearly.
When Voldemort went to Godric's Hollow on Oct 31st, 1981, then at that time...he was ONE horcrux less than his target of 7 horcruxes.

That means at the time he reached Godric's Hollow, he had 5 pieces of his soul put in 5 horcruxes and then there was one inside his body..the 6th one was in his body.
(Ofcourse...R.A.B may or may not have destroyed the locket horcrux...but Voldemort didn't know that did he???)

And by killing Harry, he was supposed to make the 7th horcrux. But obviously...that didn't happen as that art of his soul in his body was killed on that fateful night.

Then....years later...in Goblet of Fire..he killed Frank Bryce...and made his 7th horcrux.

do we know for sure he made the last horcrux from frank? does it actually say in the book? cuz i've never seen that.....

and since u say "that didn't happen as that art of his soul in his body was killed on that fateful night." shouldnt frank's death make the 6th horcrux (since the original 6th part that was in him was kiilled and he had to resort to one of the other 5)............

yes it is written in the book somewhere...said by Dumbledore. I got it wrong btw. When the Avada Kedavra Curse struck him...his body collapsed while his soul couldn't be destroyed coz it was the only part of his soul in his body..and since his other souls were earth bound...it remained intact. That is the part if his soul, which lived on in Albania, in some forest, for almost 14 years.
See this quote by Dumbledore:

"But firstly, no, Harry, not seven Horcruxes: six. The seventh part of his soul, however maimed, resides inside his regenerated body. That was the part of him that lived a spectral existence for so many years during his exile; without that, he has no self at all. That seventh piece of soul will be the last that anybody wishing to kill Voldemort must attack — the piece that lives in his body."

Now see this quote by Dumbledore in the same chapter, "Horcruxes"

However, if my calculations are correct, Voldemort was still at least one Horcrux short of his goal of six when he entered your parents' house with the intention of killing you. He seems to have reserved the process of making Horcruxes for particularly significant deaths. You would certainly have been that. He believed that in killing you, he was destroying the danger the prophecy had outlined. He believed he was making himself invincible. I am sure that he was intending to make his final Horcrux with your death. As we know, he failed. After an interval of some years, however, he used Nagini to kill an old Muggle man, and it might then have occurred to him to turn her into his last Horcrux. She underlines the Slytherin connection, which enhances Lord Voldemorts mystique;

There you go. Said by Dumbledore himself. That old Muggle man is undoubtly Frank Bryce whose murder was shown in the beginning of GoF
