That's a great question Gags!! Even I haven't deeply thought about it but now that I come to think of it, I think several factors played a role, at least for me..

First of all, I am always, always, ALWAYS a "iss duniya me har kisi ke liye koi na koi banaya gaya hai" type person...and when you sell it to me that that person for Imlie is Agastya, I cannot and will not accept anyone else taking that place...Not to undermine anything, but I don't think its as much about Agastya or the show as it is about this core concept, even for ITV audiences...

They tried this long back in Bidaai with Sadhana and Ranveer's death and it didn't work then also...such a popular show was shut down soon after..

Ekta maiyya..jo dheet pan me Gul se jyada hai..had to bring back Mihir Virani...

Gul had to shut down Iss Pyaar Ko...

Hume bachpan se yahi sikhaya jata hai ki ek banda/bandi ke saath raho...at least that's what we expect in stories..you can't unlearn so much years of conditioning in just a couple of months...

I have also never been a fan of love triangles...I mean if a third angle is bought in just to create some jealousy or spice, that's ok...but full fledged love triangle where one heart is bound to get shattered is unfathomable for me...I never liked KKHH for that reason and I will never accept this for the same reason...post Agastya's death, there were always 3 people in that relationship- Agastya, Imlie and Surya...If CVs as much as Agastya ka baar baar reference bhi kam karte na, to bhi shayad mai digest kar leti par if you bring back Agastya, and with him all those memories, its hard to accept ki now the lead has new "the one"

I mean, I am not saying k aise shows hi matt banao jahan logon ko second chance mile..hell Sai's first show was all about moving on, wasn't it..par uska pitch hi wo tha..usme ye kabhi nahi kaha gaya k Mandar was the "one and only" of Pallavi and now Raghav Rao is the second "one and only"...it was always like haan, Pallavi was married to a person who unfortunately passed away and now she is trying to build a life for herself and finds true love in that journey...I think what also plays a factor is that in many such shows, the first person either never gets introduced to us or gets introduced much later when the lead pair has established a strong connection with the audience...they are never given that much importance...here, Agastya was the jaan of Imlie and the show...they were passionately and truly in love with each other and they deserved the happy ending...what also doesn't help is that "new" person is the same actor and a twin brother of her ex "one and only"...how do people move on?? They created an impossible situation for themselves...people can never stop wishing this was Agastya since its the same actors, similar chemistry, same show...just new character..

Aur yaar usase bhi basic...log TV shows kyun dekhte hai? To forget reality after a hard days work right? real life me hota bhi hoga aise unfair endings, tragedies etc but nobody likes to see it in stories na...real me control nahi kar sakte to at least reel me to control karo...jaan bujh ke koi DDP kyun hi dekhega...Personally, I was going through many things when all this Agastya death sequence happened...some happy, some sad...for sad days, I didn't want to watch the show and feel sadder...for happy days, I didn't want to watch the shows and ruin my mood..

Again referencing back to Sai's first show..despite her husband's demise, we were already in a timeframe when Pallavi had moved on from that incident in her life..I mean, sad hona is one thing but it wasn't so fresh k she would cry buckets of tears everyday...Imlie till almost the last episode, remembered Agastya soo passionately...I still remember that day when Surya threw her out of the house and then bought her back and in her sleep, she was talking to Agastya..how do I move on from that man??

Lastly, it was the hatt of the channel or the CVs, I don't know to not explore the memory loss track when they had everything in their hand..that felt like a betrayal after giving so many clues and uplifting my expectations that Surya is Agastya...

Sorry for the long post..but I think that's it...its like you give a kid a doll to play with..the kid starts playing with the doll for 6+ months and it becomes essential part of their life..then one day, you just randomly take it away and say, see this is another exactly same looking doll, now play with this..nope, doesn't work..in your head, you know its not the same doll...you miss those old clothes that had the stains from when you painted together, the new doll doesn't have that..it doesn't have your old rubberbands that you put on your old doll, the mole you made with a sketchpen, the jewelery you put in..its never just about the face, its all about the emotions and the memories...

Chaliye shuru karte hai..smiley43 I finally am free.. and since you have poured your heart out, I feel I need to be equally open to reply with my perspective..

Before I respond to anything, let me first establish.. I have really, and I mean really imbibed a lot of 90s romantic hindi movies of my childhood, into my psyche making me an ardent fan of all those mushy, baseless, senseless, logic less, cliche bollywood dialogues like:

" Bhagwan ne saare rishte pehle se jod diye hain, bas unka milna humpe chor diya hai.. Usne hum sabko jodiyon me banaya hai.. aur har ek liye, koi 'Ek' jeevansathi hai.."

"Hum ek baar jeete hai, ek baar marte hai, shaadi bhi ek baar hoti hai ... aur pyar ek baar hi hota hai"

Ye hui baat, apne idealistic life ki... But practically, I have seen around, and reality is that, not everyone ends up meeting their Raj or Veer Pratap Singh in the first attempt.. Kaafi paapad belne padte hai.. smiley36

(Baaki KKHH ki baat nai karte.. It's my fav movie apart from DDLJ.. But it did have it's flaws.. I believe, that movie ain't a real example of a second chance love.. mainly because I am sorry to say Rahul's love was thoda.. thoda sa superficial.. It got it's true wings, when Anjali turned from a Tomboy to a saree-clad maiden... I honestly feel, love shouldn't depend on the way you look, or the need for you to change yourself. Yes, two people can come together and evolve together, but if only one person has to change, than that's not the real deal.. The way it goes, "Koi pyaar kare toh tumse kare, tum jaise ho waise kare, koi tumko badal kar pyaar kare, toh woh pyaar nahin sauda kare, aur sahiba, pyaar mein sauda nahin hota")

But really now, coming to the topic of second chance love.. I relate very hard to this dialogue from, YJHD.. "Beet-ta waqt hai magar kharch hum hote hai, jee lo ye jo pal hain"

I know a friend who got married to her college sweetheart, and lost him after 6 months of their marriage.. Now, I know, she might never get over him.. Kehna kaafi aasan hai, karna mushkil..But as a well-wisher, will I want her to live a miserable lonely life..??

Nai yaar!!!! Hum sabko koi na koi chahiye hota hai.. Someone to do bakar after a day at work or at home, or just someone in our corner.. And khush rehne ka haq sabko hai.. Exactly with this thought process, considering Imlie as someone, for whom I felt deeply, when Agastya passed away, never to come back... I really wanted Surya to be that person for her, for whom she starts to relive her life. And she did.. And that's why I felt it was a good ending.. Not for Agastya-Imlie.. but at least Imlie got some hissa of her deserved happiness with Surya.. her second chance at love..

Also will slightly disagree with your definition of love triangle.. Surya never existed in the story when Agastya was there, and vice versa.. Triangle hota hai when 3 ppl co-exist.. here it wasn't the case.. Surya made an entry when Auggy died.. Haan ye alag dukh hai ki all of us, went on believing and fabricating the theory that it's the same person, and it added up to the much sadness later when it turned out, they weren't..

Baaki I completely agree with you, as I said earlier, already real life doesn't give kam DDP, so yes, if fiction also makes you so ultra sad, what's the point.. Agastya shouldn't have died.. But he did, never to come back. and that's that... So, Imlie had to move on.. Also yes, If Sai hadn't played Surya's character, I think, I also wouldn't have watched it for sure, like so many others...

Hope, I answered some of the points you said.. :) Baaki tagging others to respond/ add to.. their perspectives..

you guys really write so well. I am not a magician of words like you. I have found my peace in the theory that Surya was initially meant to be Agastya only. All the hints were aimed at it only. I can never forget the temple wedding, the Satyavan Savitri reference, Agastya promising to never leave the side of Imlie. I mean you are trying to convince me that a couple who got married in front of Krishna Radha are not destined to be together. Itna camera zoom karke aur aise angle se dikhaya tha ki it felt like Radha Krishna married in form of Agastya imlie at that moment.

Respect all your varied opinions but for me Surya is somewhere Agastya only and he returned back to his imlie. Bas the end and happily ever after.
