My Review of Do Aur Do Pyar

1 Word Summary;

CAPTIVATING

The cinema was empty with just me and my better half, and i was very confused and almost wanted to back out considering the lack of interest people had for this movie.

However, i went in with low expectations. 2 hours 20 min about 2 people and their marriage struggles, where do I get the patience to sit through this for 2 plus hours. What if it goes horribly boring or preachy? It was a risk but it paid well because 10 min in the movie I was invested in Kavya (Vidya) and Anirudh (Pratik) and it is all thanks to how beautifully they played their parts.

Vidya Balan is such a fine talent that it is always a treat to watch her on screen. As kavya, it is no surprise, an actor of her brilliance hits all the right notes and injects so much life into her that you feel you know her or have met her somewhere in your life. She gives that personal feeling because she is that real on screen. Also, Vidya Balan not only does the best emotional scenes, she is a learning school in her self on how to scream on screen. Most actors , even the good ones, cannot shout or scream naturally, it looks fake but there are moments when Vidya shouts in this movie and oh boy, what a natural she is. Her dialogue delivery is so good that all these new actors should just see her work as acting classes esp with voice modulation where they all are really bad.

Pratik is no less, he is such a brilliant actor. I have never seen his work before but he shone so bright as Anirudh and even though he had a powerful talent like vidya to share screen with, not once did he get overshadowed. This is the brilliance of good actors, they elevate and make even a simple narration so full of life.

Sendhil is pretty good, so is Illena but she gets a pretty raw deal and her character does not really give her much scope to perform. She is so natural on screen though, she really deserves more and better work.

The 1st half is very entertaining with some genuinely funny moments. The movie does get slow in some portions of the last half an hour but overall it is a nice feel good movie with its heart at the right place and beautifully elevated with brilliant performances from Vidya & Pratik.

3.5/5

You may want to try it when it releases on OTT. I guess this was not made for cinema and I was quite surprised to be in an empty one because normally we get spot bookings here in Gulf even if no advance. It will not be a surprise that this will not do well in cinemas despite actually being a very enjoyable movie.

***1/2 ( giving it 3.25 + 0.25 for the pre-movie trailer of Joker: Folie à Deux - Phoenix looks set to rock again)

Just got back after the show. Apart from the 2 of us, just 10-15 more people watching it. Friday evening in Bombay that doesn't bode well.

A very nice movie that shows complications of relationships in our present times. Murky lines between love, attention, need for validation are brought forward very well anecdotally.

Vidya is always a pro and she's superb as usual especially amazing in the emotional scenes in the second half. Pratik is the surprise though he shouldn't be anymore after back to back worthy performances - Madgaon Express previously. He brings the humour in the film but is equally at ease in the emotion charged scenes in the second half. Matching up to Vidya is a massive endorsement to his talent. Ileana is apt in her limited portrayal and looks super cute as always. Guy playing Vikram does a very neat job as well. Music is decent. I think I heard Lucky Ali after a very long time which made it worth it.

Definite one time watch.
