Gorang Joshi : "It's just started raining in Ahmedabad. I live 3 KM away from stadium. Although it's just a drizzle but can ruin the evening " Yes, it is. It's 6:20pm and Shashank pings 'there's a thin drizzle and the covers are coming on. The pitch is being covered as well.'

Gujarat were the first team to make it to the playoffs. They stuttered against Chennai in Chennai but they have got another chance here in their homeground to keep their hopes of defending the title. Mumbai, on the other hand, were the last team to make it to the playoffs and they even had to wait for one result to go their way after playing their final round-robin game. They were slow-starters as usual but they are now just two wins away from becoming the champions yet again. Batting has been their stronger suit but Akash Madhwal's performances have lifted their bowling department significantly.

Head-to-head this season: 1-1. Round 1 - Gujarat Titans won by 55 runs. Round 2 - Mumbai Indians won by 27 runs. Who'll deliver the knockout punch today? These two teams have faced off thrice against each other and all those were won by the team batting first. Even the two playoffs played in Chennai saw the chasing teams falter. However, both these sides love chasing. Gujarat Titans have lost just fourth matches in 18 run-chases and Mumbai Indians have hunted down 200+ targets four times this season. So don't be surprised if the captain winning toss opts to bowl.

If there is rain in the match between MI and GT, and the match is cancelled, then Hardik Pandya's GT will enter the final without playing. This is because GT finished above MI on the IPL 2023 points table. MI, captained by Rohit Sharma, made it to the playoffs with 16 points in 14 matches at a net run rate of -0.044, while GT made it to the league stage with 10 wins in 14 matches, 20 points and a net run rate of 0.809.

In this context, GT will reach the finals. The same rule applies in the IPL playoffs as there is no provision for a reserve day.

Cheers..

A half an hour earlier, the fans were interspersed everywhere but now, the ones in the lower stand have gone to the sheltered seats above. As I type, more covers are being brought onto the outfield.

Shrikant: "What happens if the match is washed off? There is no reserve day" No reserve day. Shashank says, 'If a match - even a five-over shootout - isn't possible, a Super Over will decide the winner. Even if that isn't possible, the team that has finished higher on the table will qualify for the final. (In this case, Gujarat Titans). Super Over can begin as late as 12.50am.'

I think GT did a tactical mistake by defeating RCB. Had RCB qualified for playoffs, it would have been easier to defeat them as compared to MI. MI has been performing very well since last few matches. If GT loses today, we can safely say that GT ne apne pair par kulhadi maar li 😛
