Love at First Sight.

We have all experienced it at some point, fantasizing about establishing a relationship with the person.

But how far would you go to achieve this?!

#LAUTAAOMELKOR!

Mehak Akram belongs to a simple middle class family. They might not have all the luxuries in the world, but they sure do have immense love for each other. Mehak's father, Akram is a professor and a hardworker, who wants the best for his girls. Mehak is not only his daughter, but his best friend too. What truly stands out is the bond they share.

Mehak is engaged to Ahsan, her first cousin. Ahsan is very much in love with her, however Mehak sees it more as marrying a lifelong friend. It was her father's wish and who is she to do against him? Mehak thought that she has her entire life planned for her- completing her education, marrying Ahsan and then completing her responsibilities as a wife and daughter.

What she did not know was her life was going to change forever.

Whilst going to college with her father, uncle and her sister, Nida, a rashly driven BMW early causes them to have an accident. That was not the end of it. When they stopped at a signal, they saw the drive, a young handsome man, bullying a motorcycle rider to break the signal. Mehak's father, a righteous man, stands up for what is right...only to be at the receiving end of a gun. Mehak rushes to save him, apologizing to the driver and dragging her father.

But in a way, it was too late. The driver, who was driving under influence, was now intoxicated in her love. The man was dragged away by his friend, but he had already decided what he wanted in his life. And that was Mehak.

The man was Shamsher Dilawar, belonging to a Nawab family. Brash, arrogant, impulsive and violent, his obsession with Mehak starts when he reaches her house the next day and announces to her parents that he'll be marrying their daughter.

That does not stop him from pursuing Mehak. Shamsher turns up at her college, and her house at night to take her out for dinner. In order to prevent a scene, Mehak reluctantly agrees to go with him...only to reject his advances at the venue.

An angry Shamsher does the unthinkable- he gets Mehak's father arrested for a crime the man did not commit, and nearly gets him a life of jail time but Mehak coaxes him not to, by only saying his name repeatedly on a phone call...which was all Shamsher wanted. Akram returns home distraught and has a panic attack. Shamsher's insane act makes her family realise they need to do something quickly, before he actually ends up marrying Mehak.

The only solution they come up with is to marry off Mehak to Ahsan as soon as possible. Alas, Shamsher finds out through the grapevine (thanks to Ahsan's mother, Andaleeb). He arrives at Mehak's house completely furious and kidnaps Ahsan, leaving every stressed and worried. After successfully creating fear in Ahsan's mind, he convinces Ahsan to break off the engagement and keep him updated of everything going on in the Akram House.

Mehak and her family are highly disappointed and hurt. Akram decides to leave Karachi silently and hide at a relative's house for a few days, hoping that Shamsher gets over his obsession. However, a major problem arises when Nida, Mehak's sister has to appear for her examinations. Shamsher, beyond angry and frustrated reaches new levels of madness. He gets his friend, Shahmeer, to find out Nida's exam centre and turns up there, waiting in a car.

Nida spots him and freezes momentarily. While Shamsher cannot see her face because she is wearing a niqab, he understands its her. Nida ends up failing the exam but has the brainwave of exchanging her schoolbag with another girl wearing the niqab, hence creating a fake trail for Shamsher. While it seemed like the family managed to dodge a bullet...think again.

At Shahmeer's house, Shamsher recognises the writing on a thermocol food package as Mehak's. He compares it to the Leave letter he got from Mehak's college principal. Elated he has found her, Shamsher rushes to the address of the home-based food company, which was run by Mehak's aunt. As fate would have it, it was Mehak who opened the door and got hold of her, threatening her with her entire family's death if she chose to run away again.

Akram defeatedly returns to Karachi where Mehak informs Shamsher she will marry him. Shamsher thinks he is the king of the world, now that Mehak would officially be his. But that was not it. Shamsher (and Mehak) had no idea of the danger looming over their head.

You see the Nawab family, headed by Shamsher's father Nawab Dilawar, was dead against the marriage. But he was not your regular father who would create a scene and blackmail his son to get over the "girl". No, he was ruthless, unapologetic and could go to any lengths for his own family. When after numerous times of telling Shamsher that his wedding with the "lower-class" Mehak was not possible, Dilawar hatches a plan to kill the girl.

On the day of the nikah, as Mehak is on her way to the wedding venue, a truck crashes into her car and Sheru, Dilawar's accomplice, lights the car on fire after dowsing it with petrol. Shamsher is totally broken while Mehak's mother is in utter shock. Akram tries to hold it together for the sake of his family when he receives a phone call from his brother to reach the location as discreetly as possible.

In a shocking turn of events, Mehak is alive, albeit injured. In the midst of a tearful reunion, the trio decide to keep this a secret and Akram decides the best decision is to send Mehak away to Multan for her own safety. She boards the train at night itself and leaves Karachi.

However...just outside the train station at Multan, Sheru spots her getting on a rickshaw. He freaks out to say the least, knowing what Dilawar would do to him, but decides that it was just an illusion.

Mehak finds it difficult to adjust to her new life as she misses her family terribly. Meanwhile at Nawab mansion, everyone except Shamsher finds out it was Dilawar who is responsible for Mehak's "death". And speaking of Shamsher...he becomes a shell of what he was. He is in severe depression, not having the will to live.

Ahsan, on the other hand, sick of everyone's taunts, decides enough is enough and sneaks into Nawab mansion to order to kill Shamsher. The good-for-nothing security guards are more than incompetent as Ahsan sneaks into Shamsher's bedroom.

A lost and unfazed Shamsher smiles at Ahsan, encouraging him to fire his gun. Ahsan does so, with shaky hands, wounding Shamsher.

The Nawab family rushes Shamsher to the hospital, frantic for his life. He loses a lot of blood and is in a critical situation. Meanwhile, Ahsan gets arrested and faces the wrath of the police. Dilawar gets Akram and his brother arrested too, thinking this move was a conspiracy against his family. Meanwhile Mehak is finding it hard to adjust to her new life in Multan. She constantly misses her family and the new chachi does not make things easy for her. The one positive- her mother finds out she is alive and the mother-daughter talk after the longest time.

Shamsher's mother finds out the truth about her son's behaviour, thanks to Shahmeer. She seeks Dilawar's permission to apologize to Mehak's family, which he refuses. However she does manage to go to Mehak's house and apologizes to Mehak's mother. She also seeks forgiveness for her son's action. Mehak's mother, knowing that Mehak is alive, decides to forgive Shamsher for his action. This leads him to get out of coma.

Shamsher tells his father to release Mehak's family from prison and has lost all hope of living. His family decides to send him abroad to the States, away from everyone and everything for a new beginning. Unfortunately, Andaleeb finds out Mehak is alive from Noman's wife, which causes the secret to come out in the open.

A month has passed since Mehak's "accident" and she goes by the name Afsha now. She has moved out of the hostel, due to Noman's wife's behaviour. Noman regularly meets her and gets her the money Akram sends for her. Akram, on the other hand, is trying to get his transfer through so that the entire family can move to a new city together and start fresh.

Shamsher, being rash as always, ends up ditching his flight to USA and leaves Karachi by train. Shahmeer informs the family, who tries to get in touch with him. Shamsher throws his phone out of the window, trying to block out everyone to find peace since he still is not over Mehak's "death".

The train arrives at Pindi and while Shamsher contemplates his next decision, he is surprised to see Sheru there (the man who plotted and attempted to kill Mehak). Sheru tells Shamsher he has been instructed by Baba Sahab to take care of Shamsher. The two go to the Nawab's farmhouse, where a still distraught Shamsher is still in pain. The next morning when Sheru takes Shamsher for tea at a local tapri, Shamsher spots Mehak getting out of a rickshaw.

When he confronts her, shocked and stunned to see her alive, she runs from the scene, sitting in a different rickshaw. Shamsher tries to chase her, but once Mehak leaves, he goes through her stuff she dropped on the road, finds her hostel ID card and drives angrily.

Once at the hostel, Shamsher creates a ruckus- asking questions hysterically, threatening security with a gun and breaking all protocols to go to Mehak's room. After kicking open the door, he finds a scared-looking Mehak crouching in the corner of the room. He cries happily after seeing her alive, but soon that happiness transforms into anger.

Shamsher takes Mehak forcefully to his farmhouse, locks her in a bedroom and gets his friend Shahmeer to bring Mehak's family to the farmhouse. Once the family arrives, a furious (but with a calm exterior) Shamsher gives Akram an ultimatum- either convince Mehak to marry him or get ready to lose his younger daughter Nida.

Stuck in such a conundrum, Akram pleads to Mehak to marry Shamsher. With no option left, Mehak painfully agrees to do so. Shamsher and Mehak return to Karachi the next day after the nikah ceremony.

While Shamsher's family is ecstatic to know their son is coming back, they are shocked to see Mehak with him. The family is divided over acceptance of Mehak. Dilawar is infuriated and tries to get Meahk to leave Shamsher; including trying to pay Akram Mehak's worth.

This incident causes Akram to suffer a heart attack and he is hospitalised. At the same time, Mehak, isolated and cut off from her family, breaks into a high fever and gets admitted into the same hospital. Shamsher finds out about Akram. He paid for Akram treatment and relents and allows Mehak to meet her family.

Things start changing a bit. However, Shamsher's anger always gets the better of him.

Eventually, one day, the truth comes to light.

Dara is confronting Sheru (who had run away after realising he failed at his mission) at prison and Shamsher and Mehak overhear this. Shamsher is numb after he confirms the story from his mother- indeed it was Dilawar who plotted Mehak's assassination.

When Dilawar refuses to back down, Shamsher decides to leave his life of riches, luxuries, wealth and power. After staying the night at Shahmeer's house, he takes Mehak to her father's house the next day, where he apologizes for his behaviour and leaves the decision on her of whether she wants to leave him. Mehak choses not to because she was afraid of causing more disturbance to Akram's life.

The couple now begin a new life with the help of Shahmeer, who helps them find a house on rent, lends his old bike, helps financially too. Shamsher finally learns of the hardships faced by the common man. He sells his phone to buy basic groceries and amenities, which get stolen and he gets injured in the process. He finds it hard to file a case against Dilawar. He struggles to find a job. And on top of that, Dilawar publicly disowns Shamsher from his dynasty.

Paralelly, Ahsan agrees to marry Nida since no one wanted to get involved with a family who had such complicated public connections.

Mehak finds a job at a call centre and so does Shamsher, at a small grocery mart. The two start trying to make things work when tragedy strikes. Mehwish, who falls severely ill after Shamsher leaves, dies from an incurable ailment. Her last wish of wanting to meet her younger son is not fulfilled.

A broken Shamsher rushes to Nawab house, leaving Ahsan and Nida's nikah in a hurry, but his kicked out by his own father. Later that night he breaks down in front of Mehak, who consoles him. In a bittersweet moment, the two are seen coming closer for the first time ever.

Time goes by. Shamsher and Mehak have gotten used to their life now. Mehak, who used to initially be very cold and mean towards Shamsher, has forgiven him. Her walls break down and the two are living more co-dependently than before. While Shamsher struggles with his new-found identity and his attempts to genuinely be Mehak's, Mehak reassures him things will change.

Love begins to bloom between the lovers, but when have things ever been smooth for them?

In another futile attempt, Baba Sahab sends Sheru once again to kill Mehak. On a stormy night, Sheru makes his way to the couple's house. Meanwhile, for the very first time, Shamsher and Mehak share a bed due to Mehak's fear of thunderstorms. This finally gives Shamsher the confirmation that his wife now feels safe with him.

Some time later, Sheru breaks into their house. Shamsher and Mehak find him standing near the entrance, pointing a gun at them. While an furious Shamsher shields Mehak, Sheru's facade drops. In the cat-and-mouse chase between the police and Sheru, the assassin ended up losing who he loved the most. His son. And if he did not agree to kill Mehak, Baba Sahab would ensure his wife would die too.

Shamsher and Sheru call a truce, with Sheru agreeing to return after a couple of days to testify against Baba Sahab. The next morning, Shamsher goes to visit Baba Sahab and pleads as a son while also showing his aggressive side after the longest time to leave him and Mehak alone.

The stormy night indeed changed the dynamics. Shamsher, who seems lost and broken after his visit to Baba Sahab, once again professes his love for Mehak. However this time, Mehak admits she does not want him to leave her and that he has won her over.

While things start looking up, Shamsher ends up finding Sheru's body in the middle of the road a few days later. Which means he had lost his last trump card.

Even in these troubled times, our sweethearts find happiness. Shamsher receives his first salary and takes Mehak out on a date. They shop and go for dinner. This is also the first time Shamsher realises the value of money, and how easy his life had been in the past.

The same night, the couple go to Mehak's house, where Shamsher had bought a gift for Akram. He asks for forgiveness and admits his mistakes. After seeing the genuine change in Shamsher, along with the love Mehak has for him, Akram forgives Shamsher, under the notion that he would never go back to his old ways.

While the lovers have finally made peace with it all and have moved on to a new book in their lives, Baba Sahab's ego refuses to budge. In a last attempt, he hires a couple of henchmen to assassinate Mehak. With his plan set in motion, he is sure he will be successful this time.

One fine day, Mehak falls sick and is quite dizzy. Shamsher gets worked up, takes her to the doctor and gets the good news...he is to be a father. An ecstatic Shamsher, all set to go to work with his newfound happiness and responsibilities, spots a couple of henchmen aiming at Mehak. In an attempt to save her, he runs and gets shot instead, collapsing in her arms.

Mehak rushes him to the hospital and calls her parents. Dara learns of this and gives Baba Sahab the news, who goes into a state of shock. Both father and son arrive at the hospital. In a state of anger and despair, Mehak reveals she is pregnant, which breaks Baba Sahab's ego and finally makes him realise what he has done.

Post Shamsher's surgery, the doctors allow Mehak to go see him. Shamsher asks her to say she loves him, because she never has before. Mehak breaks down and finally declares her love for him in words. A tearful Shamsher, satisfied to have had his wish fulfilled, finally breathes his last.

Two months go by.

Baba Sahab admits his crimes through a Declaration at a press conference but while his lawyer makes the announcements, he commits suicide by shooting himself.

Mehak is still in trauma and has moved back to her father's home. Sophia comes to meet Mehak and apologizes for her behaviour and reveals she is going to the States. Sophia never has plans to get married because of her love for Shamsher. She knows Mehak would understand since both of them loved the same man. Mehak disagrees and tells Sophia the man she loved was not the same as the man Mehak loved. They were two different Shamshers.

Soon, Baba Sahab's will is announced and Mehak is made the owner of 50% of all assets, which belonged to Shamsher. Mehak refuses to take a single penny and decides to write it all off to charity.

Fast Forward to 3 Years Later:

There is a birthday party, the birthday boy being none other than Shamsher Jr., Mehak and Shamsher's son. Akram comes and takes the little boy to the party and we see Mehak looking at Shamsher's photograph. She wishes him a Happy Birthday; indicating both father and son shared the same birth date.

Mehak cries in front of the photo and says Shamsher Jr. has already inherited his father's anger. Hence, she is trying every day to ensure that their son does not become like Shamsher. Mehak also admits she can never forget what she had to endure because of Shamsher, but she did fall in love with him eventually. She tells the portrait how he would always ask her to say that she loves him; tearfully adding that she says it every single day now, but he is not around to hear it. Lastly, Mehak says she misses him and will always miss him; hinting that she would never fall in love again and the only man in her heart forever would be Shamsher; concluding the painful and twisted tale of a love story that happened in the darkest circumstances and failed to sail through the rough waters of class difference, power and corruption.
