~~ | Write the Bite Contest [Winners Announced] [Link pg - 45] | ~~

What is the recipe for a perfect story? The one which has a soul.

Whether a story is written in 10,000 words or just 5, it is the story’s soul that makes one laugh, or cry or leave behind a trail of blazing imagination. One bite of the story and its flavors leave behind a taste of tangy raw emotions in the heart.

Wait, when we say bite, we are literally talking about food. Every food has a story lurking somewhere. Be it pizza, samosa, idli-dosa, chocolate cupcakes, mughlai paratha, palaak paneer or tapri waali chai.

Whether you love to gobble up cakes, prefer a lemonade to wash down your anger, love to see only perfection on your plate or find a new adventure in every new dish; grab your plates and pen, because we are hungry to read what you will write.

Allow us to present the Write the Bite contest where you write bite-sized stories. As less is more.

You have to submit ideally a 10-word story with food as the theme. It could be anything related to food or cooking. You could share your thoughts regarding food, cooking or share your most fond memory associated with food, but in a story form. So what are you waiting for? Munch on the chocolate you hid from your sibling and scroll down for the rules.

A story centered around character(s) that is written in 10 words. Few examples for reference: (from the link mentioned below )

  1. She waited. He called. They talked. Silence. His breath caught.
  2. Doorbell. Sweet intent. Lies in waiting? Hysteria. The world awaits.
  3. Grocery store. Mass chaos. Baby food aisle. Matriarchs duel: life.

Hindi/English. No other language. But write the story in one language and avoid Hinglish.

Would it be ok if the stories contain 1-2 words extra or they should be only within 12 words?

No, the story has to be of 8-12 words.

What do you exactly mean by "story", ek line ki story kaise ho sakti hai...does it need to be like a tagline?

10 word story is a thing (link in above question), and no, it's not a tagline.

Story can be in sentence or poetry too right ?

It has to be a story. No poetry.

You have mentioned "Multiple entries are allowed", any particular number of entries? Coz since its a ten word story, and we have more than 2 weeks time, thought we can send as many as possible.  So wanted to be clear about exactly how many is allowed?

Yes, you can send as many as you want to submit. There is 2 weeks time so that the participants have time to think and be as creative as they want to be.

Why there is no limit for maximum entries? Why so less word limit?

This contest, with its limited word limit, is a challenge for people with experience and a way for newbies to start considering writing, so we don't want to put a stop on the no of entries. Someone said that they might read all the entries just for small length of the stories and that's why the more stories, the better.

Are articles included in 8 to 12 words?

Yes. Go to grammarly.com and type in your entries. It will give you the word count and we are using it to for reference.

Can it be on a real life memory about food??

Yes

Should the story revolve around food? Or can I make it only a part of the story?

The story can revolve around food or food can only be a part of it. It is an open canvas, the writers are free to shape their story anyway. The story has to include a food item, or speak about eating or drinking, or cooking and ingredients.

Is it acceptable if the eating is implied?

The implication of eating shouldn't be way too open ended and the theme of 'food' shouldn't be lost.

Interesting contest! Would it be ok if the stories contain 1-2 words extra or they should be only within 12 words? It would be great if you make it within 15-20 words. I don't know about others but I find it hard to write within 12 words.

I think that's the real challenge.

Let's see what the development team has to say about this.
