U must be aware of SRK's promotions right.

You flip channels in every 10 min you had "HNY team ke saath kijiye dant manjan or pijiye Mountain dew (or something)".And who can forget those blitzkrieg promotions of Ra One.His much publicised train journey for Raaes.

If I recall most promoted movie was either Ghajini or 3I post release.Only last decade,Aamir started socialising.

Pre 3 Idiots,He had record,bumper and record opening with MRF films in a year.His crap Mela had bigger opening than SRK's PBDH with Juhi.

DDLJ itself had low opening.

With all the hype post Lagaan,Swades was released which was dampener. 

AL Rai after TWMR had Zero with SRK.So it's not like content oriented cinema have never been his way.

What stardom are you going on?

D3 was shit but it was an ATG.It's upto the makers whether they want to continue or not. 

His ambitious superhero series ended with RaOne which he ruined.Shuru hone se pehle hi khatam.

People watch SRK's films for timepass entertainment.That's it.Nobody watches his films for his performance.

Likewise if you take into account all these parameters,I can bet a $,₹,€,£ if Aamir had done SRKs films it would have performed way more than him. Or any other mainstream actor in his place would have done better in those blockbusters.

All Aamir doesn't have is a crazy fanbase on social media platforms.

The biggest example of comparative stardom is this thread. Had to bring in SRK to have peeps write on Aamir. Or it would have to be about some affair with a starlet.

Unlike other actors you are guaranteed that SRK will be and can only play himself for nth time.

What Aamir is good at is giving the public exactly what they want to see. He has his finger on the pulse of average people. I don't think he makes great movies but he makes stories that the general public will like. It's an art to know the audience in that way. But the downside of that is that there is something very generic about the movies - for anything to appeal to everyone, it has to have no point of view or nothing strong to say/experience at all. His movies are like vanilla ice-cream. It's okay - everyone will eat it by default because nobody is threatened/bothered by it. But it's still boring and dull. It won't be anyone's favorite like a Rocky Road or Mint Chocolate Chip.
