Having his cake and eating it too

Vanraj is having his cake and eating it too. Man has his pretty young new wife to waltz around with and the old one cooking his meals, he has his family, his parents who still dote on him and the presence of his loving children. How will the man ever realize what he did was wrong? Instead of paying for his infidelity, instead of being stripped of his savings, instead of being berated, the man is being treated like a spoilt overgrown child, at least by Ba.

I don’t like Kavya and her manipulative ways but to demand that she will cook and clean for him, how dare the man? And Ba nodding her head in approval, how regressive is that? But the cat gets Vanraj’s tongue every time his current wife is throwing a fit. He stands there tongue-tied, shame on him. He has yelled, physically shaken Anupama and now hangs around in the background like a wimp everytime Kavya creates a scene.

Ba and Bapuji have it good too, their erring son is living with them, they get to enjoy happy family meals with the blinded mother serving her grown son tasty meals cooked by her ex daughter in law! They have Anupama to tend to their needs, chai, coffee, garma garam food, oh my, it must be heaven except for Kavya’s irrational tantrums. Their son doesn’t even need to leave the house with false claims of work to go hang out with his mistress as he has solved that problem by bringing the other woman legally into the house. Hats off to Vanraj Shah, the most conniving chauvinistic man of the show! 

I don’t want Anupama leaving the Shah home as the house is as much hers after 25 years as it is Vanraj’s and Dolly’s, but I do wish she would take a back seat when it comes to serving these two older folk. Kavya wants to show her “hak”, let Kavya cater to Vanraj’s parents then. Or let Kavya demand that since her V is literally a stay at home husband now that he share in the responsibilities of running the household. Why is it only Anupama’s and Kinjal’s duties to run the kitchen? Samar and Toshu can help as well, along with their good for nothing stay at home dad, Vanraj. 

I agree with most of what you said. Anupama empathy was well established the way she treated Jilmil. The sending mangoes to the security s daughter, giving Hifi Bai a cup of chai and kachori, samosa  establishes her empathy. Everytime baa serves food for Vee or when he snatches the plate of treats Anupama knows the repurcussions it will have.  The way Anupama and Kavya are dileanated they have to portray an exaggerated contrast to drive home the difference.

Yup  jo vanraj ne  25 year kiya anupama ko. Use 25 year se  apni biwi nahin mana  ek maid ki treat kiya  anupama ko to 25 year ke torure ke comparison mein  vanraj ne kya suffer kiya as punshiment

Okay  he  loose job  and have accident but phir  bhi  but   still he is enjoying with family  baa vanraj pamper kar rahe they aur pakhi  aur toshu already support kar rahe they vanraj  Even after great mistake 

25 year ke torture to anupama   by vanraj vanraj is still gaming simpathy  . He is shown as bechara but root cause of problem is vanraj 

Not to say about leela  . Iska pyaar mujhe   anupama ki taraf    fake hai. She just speak sweet to  anupama. Thats it 

Othwise  baa ke action se kahin nahi lagta  woh anupama ki care  karti hai. Sher did not Even ask anupama to take rest not to  do much work as u have recent surgery so u shoulder take rest 

By action and word  baa only care for vanraj .. If leela would have really thougt vanraj didi great mistake  and did really feel that anupama ke saath galat hua to vanraj ke itni badi galti baad  baa vanraj ke saath  for many month strict rehti  but baa ne aisa khuch nahin kiya   that is why baa improvement fake lagta hai 

Waise baa ne bhi kya suffer kiya hai  as punishment  in comparison  she taunt and mental torture anupama 

Just say sorry by vanraj and baa to anupama. And   both leela and  vanraj 25:year torture to anupama will just wash. What A joke

Vanraj is biggest jerk 

Although Vanraj is a Jerk,, but Kavya needs to be thought a lesson here.. Time and Again she is indicating that handling the house is a cheap job or being a homemaker doesnt need a talent... she is so wrong,,, being a homemaker is a big job initself.

Yes, they are exaggerated responses for effect but the contrast is stark between the two women.

Keeps calling Anupama gavaar and unpadd, Kavya honestly believes she, Kavya, is all that and God’s gift to Vanraj and the Shah parivar. Being a housewife and managing that large a household is no mean task that Anupama has managed for 25 years.

Totally agree with you, a sorry will not erase the years of cruel treatment by mother and son. Ba’s behavior towards Anupama is not forgivable. Ba is responsible for much of Vanraj’s arrogance and selfishness. She has never held a mirror to her son’s terrible behavior and even now babies him. 

Because she can’t wait for jhilmil to come back and pick up the slack meanwhile. Gender roles are clearly defined and years of ingrained habits don’t change overnight. If kavya wanted a maid she should have managed her too. It was her call to get a maid not vanraj’s.

You mean Kavya is waiting for Jhilmil to come back? It was definitely Kavya’s idea to get a maid and not Vanraj’s but the man was silent when his new wife suited her fancy. Gender roles may be defined but the man chose a “modern” version for himself as he could not stand the masala smelling, work at home wife. If he chose Kavya over Anupama, the sleaze has to change as well. He cannot have his cake and eat it too - a pretty young thing that works and can hold her own at work but be a slave to him at home as well, like his first wife was. 

But my beef is not whether Vanraj supported Kavya in the maid incident or not, my irritation is over the fact that the guy eats his first wife’s cooking and then demands his new wife to cook and clean for him, literally wait on him hand and foot, clearly not done, whoever the wife is, be it Anupama or now Kavya. The offense is that Vanraj is regressive, his attitude backward, and he is coddled by Ba.
