Why is subtlety not considered good acting?

Why? Why? Why?

Subtle acting is far more challenging than over the top acting. If the viewer is able to register the emotions, then the acting is successful.

Even in this forum, people are complaining about expressions. But the expression are so nuanced yet well done, only that's why we are able to understand what the actor is trying to convey. The role requires a certain level of 'I won't show the world whats going on in my head'. Yet if the emotions are being conveyed through beautiful, subtle expressions. Thats a very difficult feat to pull off. Appreciate that.

Its because Itv shows have been showing loud acting most of the time and hence many fail to see the grace in subtle acting

You have to specify which actor u r taking about?

If you mean VV, sorry he is very underwhelming and i see no screen presence at all

I have to disagree. Playing larger than life role requires skills, Even great actor like Ranbir fails at the so called OTT acting. You need to have correct timing, dialogue delivery and impactful voice,

Larger than life role requires more than subtle acting.

In the end it is matter of perspective. I like larger than life character more and you need correct timing and skills to pull off such roles. It is more tough to pull off without going ott . That is very hard skill.

If u mean VV's subtle acting, he is failing at it. He lacks screen presence and gets overshadowed.

People need to understand everyone have their choice. I don't agree to your opinion, but you have every right to have different opinion.

"Good acting" is often subjective and its impact varies from medium to medium. What is good acting in a movie or webseries may not create the same impact in a melodramatic mainstream TV serial. Let me give you an example.

There was a show named Sadda Haq on Channel V some years back, where a character called Vardhan sir was played by Krip Kapur Suri. Incidentally, Vardhan had the same tagline "interesting...very interesting".

Anyway, so this Sadda Haq was not the quintessential "TV serial" type, and despite its flaws, had overall a more realistic touch compared to other mainstream ITV shows. There, Vardhan's acting seemed extremely loud and OTT. Krip is a promising actor but it was clear that he had not grasped the essence of the medium. The lead actor of the show Param on the other hand, NAILED his role with his subtle approach.

Around the same time, this same actor Krip acted in another Ekta Kapoor show Karam as well as in Maharana Pratap on Sony as Akbar. His same style of acting which appeared "loud" in Sadda Haq appeared absolutely fine in these mainstream shows.

The same applies for the actors of IMMJ2 as well. Personally, I am a huge fan of subtlety, but the medium also matters. For example, I personally find Vishal Vashisht (Kabir) and Manasvi (Aryan) to be very good actors, if not great. Same with Helly and the actor playing Dadi. I love the actresses playing Dadi and Chachi. Angre and Anupriya are average.

Rest all side actors of this show are simply TRASH in my opinion. Right from Sia to Chachu to Ishani to Mishra...the supporting cast of this show is horrendous.

Assuming the main post is about Rrahul, I'll come to him now. I am a BIG fan of the guy's overall persona. I think he is a fantastic actor, he did really well in All about Section 377 and Twisted 2. I was recently watching Raja Beta, there too he has done well to a great extent.

But in THIS show, I have mixed feelings about his acting which I feel is inconsistent.

In some episodes, Rrahul is absolutely OUTSTANDING. For example, the key stealing scene, the physiotherapy-BB scene, the white dupatta flying scene...even in Episode 15, when he proposes marriage to Riddhima. I started watching this show after seeing a clip of that epi on Youtube.

But in some other scenes, either his face needs more expressions or his dialogue delivery seems a bit forced. Not blaming him...he has immense potential. It is the director's fault as well. I genuinely want Rrahul to do so well...that he becomes No. 1 TV actor. But for that, he needs to listen to feedbacks as well, which he has admitted in his interviews, that he doesnt.

Being subtle and having blank expressions are not the same. In Hotstar's Special Ops webseries, actor KK Menon has an interrogation scene with Ajmal Kasab. Now THAT is what I call subtlety in acting.

(Not comparing with Rrahul here...as Rrahul is relatively a newcomer, but just giving an example).
