Early Estimates: Thappad - Bhoot - Shubh Mangal

Thappad has collected a poor 3 crore nett on day one as per early estimates. These collections are better than Panga but lower than Chhapaak and Mardaani. Its basically doing best in Delhi NCR like last weeks Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan while other metros have not performed as well.

The growth will come on Saturday and the media will help here also whoc think its a classic but eventually the audience will come into play on Sunday and Monday. If the film can double on Saturday it would be a good result for the film but whether is goes on or not will depend on Monday.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan has had a fair hold as it collected 1.75 crore nett on its seond Friday which means the film will collect over 10 crore nett in week two for sure. the film has managed to do decent business in Delhi NCR.

Bhoot collected 1 crore nett on its second Friday which is a low number but it could be enough to collect 30 crore nett but that is not much of a total especially with a holiday release.

Honestly 3 crore is a really good number for this kind of movie! If the movie passes the Monday test then I’ll watch it 

The movie is really good. Everyone should watch it. I always found Tapsee a one note actor but here she does really well. You can connect with her. Even the woman who played lawyer was good. The characterization & writing were amazing. Dailogues were relatable no OTT drama.

Thappad Has Poor Opening Day

Thappad had a poor first day as it collected 2.75- 3 crore nett though it was better than the likes of Panga and Saand Ki Aankh. The collections are mainly from Delhi NCR as that area including the NCR centres of East Punjab like Gurgaon and Faridabad are over 80 lakhs nett. These collections are from just 100 theatres.

The film will need good pick up in places like Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore to have any chance of doing well and it this pick up could come on Saturday but whether it can last after that is another story. The film looked devoid of entertainment and music so on those accounts its not too bad of a number but on the other side it had those early four star reviews coming well before release which can help collections at these low levels.

Its going to be Monday when it will known that are these reviews any close to reality or like normal when they try to push certain films no matter how bad they may be. The first day collections of similar films to Thappad are as follows.

Chhapaak - 4,46,00,000

Mardaani 2 - 3,75,00,000

Thappad - 2,85,00,000 apprx

Panga - 1,81,00,000

Saand Ki Annkh - 47,00,000 (pre diwali)

Just back from Thappad .Thappad does not really strike a chord primarily because a simple idea has been stretched so much that you run out of patience after a point.The film feels prolonged with several sub plots but barring the main story ,the remaining stories are dull .There are some powerful moments that remain etched in ur memory which save the show to some extent .The only reason to sit through this movie is Tapsee Pannu who is in great form here .Thappad is strictly one time watch!

Watched the movie. Easily one of the best movie i have seen. It is so impactful. The direction and acting is so so good. Tapsee is brilliant..this is definitely her best performance but more than that I feel shes surpasses all the other actresses. Tapsee is so under rated. She deserves much more.

Booked my tickets for Monday. Really want this movie to do well.

and 3 cr opening for this small budget movie is actually pretty good..BOI is too biased to call it poor..why are they always ao harsh towards any movie which is not their usual hero centric masala..

one should see the difference in their tone while addressing actual poor collections of movies like race 3 and dabang 3..they never call it poor..even a wash out like street dancer 3..they haven't called it flop openly..despite all trade analysts saying it

Thappad Has Good Growth On Day Two

Thappad managed to show good growth of 75% on Saturday to collect 5 crore nett. The growth is good but its difficult to tell what Saturday growth means today for films at these levels. A few years ago this sort of growth would mean a winner but nowadays all this means is that its keeps the film in the running.

The two day numbers of the film are 7.85 crore nett which is low but it can make up for this on the weekdays. The collections are best in Delhi NCR and Mumbai could have grown more as day one was not so strong. the film has very limited reach of metros and even that looks like all metros are not going to be on side. If NCR can sustain well then it maybe enough for the film as the costs are not high. But a lot depends on Monday which has to be close to the Friday number of the film.

If we look at the Saturday growth of similar films then Panga went up 108% on Saturday and Chhapaak went up 40% and both films failed and more importantly did not sustain after the weekend. This film is a cousin of those films and it remains to be seen what is the fate of this film and the minimum target should be to beat the higher grossing cousin Chhapaak. The two day collections of the film till date are as follows.

Friday - 2,85,00,000 apprx

Saturday - 5,00,00,000 apprx
