Thappad - A Close Cousin Of Chhapaak And Panga

The audience had to bear Chhapaak and Panga earlier this year and now its seems those films have a cousin with Thappad. Actually its not just Chhapaak and Panga but another dud Saand Ki Aankh which came from the same family. The makers probably thought this one was a huge classic so even dared to release on Diwali but the writing was on the wall from day one.

There is not much to say about the Thappad trailer as it would have been pretty hard to watch for most of the country which will be reflected in box office collections. The makers sell these films be it Thappad, Chhapaak or Panga as they are creating awareness or teaching society something but how can you do that when the audience count is so low and that too its mainly the high end multiplex audience where a large percentage is actually English speaking. Also today the audience is not coming to learn from films as the industry hardly as that sort of reputation and there will be better places for them to learn than some film which is actually an opinion of the makers.

The simple fact why these sort of films are made is thanks to the extra revenue from digital over the the past few years. The film can cover a large chunk of the investment from digital and satellite so even if no one watches in theatres there will not be losses though this can go wrong sometimes like with Panga and Chhapaak when the talent is taking a bigger chunk out relative to the potential of the content which then has to make a mark in theatres be it India or Overseas.

The fact is that Thappad belongs to digital only and not cinemas but then the digital revenue will be much less as its not a feature film. Saand Ki Aankh and Panga did a little over 20 crore nett and Chhapaak did a little over 30 crore nett and now lets see where this family member Thappad goes. The film had these four star reviews coming out earlier on the week so the media seems to be on side but the real judge is always the public.
