CHAPTER 4

Priya was looking gorgeous in a simple orange saree. Priya gave the coffee to everyone and sits down on the sofa. All this time she is not looking up and has a dismal look. Kadhir's parents enquire about her studies and work and she tells them but she does not even turn to Kadhir;s side. Kadhir as sharp as he is observes that Priya is detached from the whole atmosphere and he is disheartened.

He slowly tells his dad that he needs to speak to Priya in private. Both parents agree and priya is asked to go to the terrace with Kadhir. It's a beautiful breezy evening , it had slightly rained an hour back. The fragrance of the jasmine flowers combined with that of the emanating scent of rain was perfect for a romantic backdrop. None of this surroundings seemed to have an effect on Priya. Kadhir slowly stared talking. Priya, you are beautiful and a very talented woman and I am ready to go down and give my consent for this marriage. But I don't see any sign of happiness or acceptance in your face, do I need to know something? Are you being forced in this marriage?

Priya a little aghast hurriedly tells him, no no..nothing like that, I wasn't ready for marriage, but if that's what my dad wants, so be it. Cmon Priya, you are a modern woman and you don't have to do anything just because your dad wants. Surprised, priya thinks that maybe I can stop this marriage if I explain about Durai to him. But she also remembers her father threatening that he would commit suicide If she thought of getting back with Durai. You are right I am not ready for marriage right now. I want to work for some more years and before I get married I have a very important task in hand, but my dad has never thought about that and without asking me he was thinking about my marriage. What is the task? Kadhir looks puzzled.

I have to get my Anni married first. My father never thinks about it. Kadhir is very impressed now. Priya continues, Yes my anna and anni had barely lived together for a week after marriage and he was called of to go to war and he never returned back. My Anni's parents think that once they get their daughter married, their job is over. They are not bothered about getting a life for her. My father is old, and even if I get married what will happen to my Anni? Kadhir, You know, behind that widow look there is a beautiful woman with the kindest heart and love that she never got to share with anyone. Even the one week after their wedding, my anna was so busy with his friend and wife's problems that he hardly spent time with her. So she doesn't even have memories of her married life. But she has never shown all this outside. I don't know why I am talking to you about this, I am surprised myself. But I would be thankful to you if we don't pursue our alliance further atleast for the time being. With an unsettling look, kadhir tells priya , I understand your situation Priya, I will take care of it. Don't worry. All the best in everything. Not wanting to stand any longer he leaves."I am sorry Kadhir", priya whispers to herself.

Kadhir comes down with a gloomy look in his eyes and tells Priya's dad, "Uncle, neenga engala kooptathukku romba nanri, but enakku Priyava pathi ippo decide panna mudiyathu, enga rendu perukkum vera vera tastes irukku. He looks at all the tamil novel and kavithai books longingly and calls out to his parents to leave. Aiyo uncle athellam onnum illa, ellorum avanga avanga priorities munnadiye sollikrathu nallathu thane, so thevaillama aprama kashtapadavendame. Kadhir's parents take leave of Priya;s dad . They get into the car and leave. Priya's dad rushes up to the terrace to talk to Priya.

Uma who has been in the neighbours house all along hearing the car speeding away comes back home. As she is about to go inside she hears a car coming and Kadhir steps out. He had come to pick up the cell phone he had forgotten and as he steps near the front door he notices Uma. He looks at her forehead, there is no bindi and he looks at her hand,

Clarification:

I dont remember the name of Anni in anandham, so i christened her Uma. But the current anni in anandham is very dull, so please suggest some actress.
Very unlikely but the person who flashed on mind is Nandita Das.

Preeti is good for deepak. But oru chinna sikkal. Preeti looks younger than priya and cant imagine she is the widow of that army guy...whats his name?

Madhumitas, I have left a comment for you on your blog; great work. I hope Cheyar Ravi will read your blog and start a spin-off serial, focusing on ACD-Priya. That should help him slowly kill off Anandham and start on a whole new slate.

On a separate matter, I am waiting to see the episode introducing Sripriya. She looks amazing in the clip that someone has posted on this forum. I disagree with the fans who compare Sripriya (possibly SKPD's wife and Abhi'a amma) with the other ladies of her generation, such as Mrs RK. These are women who are supposed to be in their late 50s and above. I simply cannot understand why most Indian women of that age, indeed, even many in their 40s, don't give a damn to appearance. They should take a page from the likes of Sripriya. She's obviously well into her 50s but has maintained her youthful looks (even if she has added on kilos). Two cheers to Indian women like Sripriya.
