The Boys S2
Irreverent, violent, and crude, the Boys flips the script of the Superhero genre. The Captain America/Superman type Homelander is the primary antagonist. While the Lex Luthor type Billy Butcher is the hero.
Season 2 adds the vile and sinister Stormfront - a Nazi who uses wants to use superhero powers to establish white supremacy. This season resolves many narrative threads about Compound V, the Voight corporation, and Billy Butcher's family. But the finale reveals another new sinister villain on the horizon.
Even the Boys does a better job with a girl power scene that flows naturally and isn't as cringe as Marvel's try-hard moments.
Gangubai Kathiawadi
Alia Bhatt has owned the role. The film shares an intriguing tale of a young girl's harrowing journey into prostitution and how she rises above it to take control of her life.
The movie in my mind can be divided into four parts based on her relationships with the men in her life. The first is her love affair with Ramnik Lal and his betrayal. Then there is her brother-sister bond with Rahim Lala, a phase that empowers her to take control. Her doomed relationship with Afsaan is incredibly soulful and pure. Their chemistry is portrayed most beautifully. Finally, her friendship with the journalist Amin Faizi. Her life has now come a complete 180 from her innocent roots, and now she fights for the legitimacy and rights of sex workers.
Every individual character in Gangu's life is brilliantly portrayed by the vast cast of character actors. The only one wasted was Vijay Raaz. It feels like we barely scratched the surface of Raziabai. The film could also have been much shorter. There are moments when the plot languishes instead of moving forward.
Overall a well-made movie that humanizes prostitutes.
