Jhoota. He first said it was an honorary citizenship like an honorary PHd he has received. Then insisted that he has dual citizenship which India doesn't endorse. Abhi aaya oonth pahad ke niche. Woh bhi ek PR written tweet. He was dismissive couple of days back when asked.

Isn’t it normal to pay taxes where you work? So what is the big deal about it? Why are the celebs making it seem like they are doing the country a favor by paying what they should like everyone else?

And the issue was about his giving up his indian citizenship for Canadian while promoting all sorts of Patriotism in India.Which makes him a hypocrite.

They are trying to confuse and divert. Akki and his wife are all about money.

I thought his statement was okay...

Atleast he didn’t say “ You want my tax, but not my vote... Do you know how much taxes I pay?”

But it wont satisfy his critics, not after the Modi IV and his first botched answer about being an honorary citizen 😛

I think mentioning taxes is their way of saying they are contributing to India and it’s betterment, and as such have a right to express their opinions. There is this universal believe all of us have no matter where we are from that if I pay taxes then you (the collective you in a position of governmental power) has to listen to me. Fair enough.

IMO the problem people have with Akshay is that he’s coming across as a blatant hypocrite. All his direct or indirect preaching about India, and at some point he gave up his Indian citizenship for a Canadian one. Now all his patriotic themed movies appear as sheer manipulation of the public to make himself money. He seems very disingenuous in his motives. He also dug his own grave in trying to hide this fact and lie about it repeatedly.

Kind of the same thing with Soni. She’s preachy and critical about things. She may or may not have a point. But people don’t like getting lectured at by someone who decided British citizenship is more beneficial to her Indian born daughters.

Waah Akshay ji waah ....if you are going to work here then you are going to pay taxes here too but why are you contributing to Canadian economy by paying taxes there if you are not living , eating or earning there ?

Why did you, a privileged full of money , give up your indian citizenship when you don't live in canada...you don't work there...you weren't born there ...you don't have family there , this goes on to prove your love for India in comparison to Canada .

You can support indian army or soldiers any how you want ( not a big deal IMO since you get back many times of that ) but if it comes to conflict in indian army vs canadian army then you are bound by oath to support and fight for canada army over indian .....proves your love for india again .

Why have you constantly been lying and hiding about your citizenship if there was no problem ? and why do you want to retire in canada and do business there , giving employment to canadians ( not indians ) with the money you earned in india ?

These questions wouldn't have arisen if you weren't this hypocrite giving deshbhakti gyan directly or indirectly to indians and taking non-political interviews of indian PM ( even though you charged bomb for that too ) and also if leaders and supporters of PM't party wouldn't be distributing deshbhakti certificates to everyone while PM is giving interview to a foreign actor .

So according to this forum, I am not allowed to say I am proud to be an Indian because hey; I don't have an Indian passport either. Sad. But luckily, in real life people actually love it when a NRI or foreign Indian expresses his or her fondness for their homeland.
