Hmmm! You know it had me wondering. One mother after the initial shock, is slowly making mental adjustment to welcoming her first grandkid , offering to do her bit by providing outside support for the ultrasound. The other mother is absolutely aghast that her daughter has intended to bring the baby into the world...

I wonder if gender has any role to play here in making this mental adjustment and reluctant acceptance as in unwed son's child vs currently unwed daughter's child... what if Niru has been Sam's mother...

Feel sorry for the mothers though !! Dads get the soft blow hearing it from their spouses and moms are left getting the sucker punch most times... Dang!! Children!!! 😲 Edited by Errantnomad - 5 years ago

It was also interesting as to how children make a play at one parent kinda coercing to make a pitch to the other parent... both adult children are like Dad needn't be told this now! 😆 I mean how different is it going to be anyways... like ok if it comes from mom, it's going to be a soft blow for Dad .

She fixed a big breakfast, he returned dripping water after an hour, the dog ran to his bowl, famished

 

He went into the bathroom changed and wiped off the floor so she shouldn't slip

 

"I made too many things she said trying to hide her puffy eyes as he sprinted to the back patio to hang the wash cloth

 

"Nice he smiled cheerfully

No sign of having heard he was the second/leftover choice

 

"Lets eat she walked over to where he was

Toast started following her

 

"None for you she told him and chuckled trying to be cheerful

 

She served eggs, and upma

She ate like she was starving

The room was eveloped in silence for a few minutes...

She tried catching Rohan twice that day to tell him who the baby's father was, but he excused himself both times

 

She arrived at the doctor's at 3:45 and waited nervously in the plush waiting area

She realized she had to change that...

She was wearing a lovely green cotton kurta and a pink salwar... he was in jeans strangely

A surge of unexplainable emotion swept through him at the possessive enquiry

"Mrs Saran? the ultrasound clerk called her name

 

"That must be you he muttered

 

They walked into the room, and she did what was told... the Doctor met him

 

"Good to meet you... he or she is very healthy she tapped his hand after shaking

 

"Thanks

 

"Do u have a Nick name?

 

"No... u can call me Avyaan he said

 

She had thankfully left the father's name field blank on the form... instead of filling out Bik's name

She had filled out hers as Mrs Samidha Saran

 

The nurse squeezed warmed up lotion on her lower belly

 

He stared nervously at the machine...

 

"u can sit Samidha waved

 

"I am fine he smiled

 

"No seriously the Doc urged

 

And rotated the probe all over, and the heart beat was quick to find since the baby had it for 4 weeks almost

 

"there she is! the Doc exclaimed with joy

 

"Oh wow!! Samidha clapped her hands with child like enthusiasm

 

"Haha laughe the technician

 

"No one claps

 

"We get all kinds of reactions the Doc smiled "I should say Ive seen it all... but... I am sure there is someone out there that's going to surprise me

 

"Are those limbs? he gasped

 

"Yep... a tiny human... arms, legs... there is two of each... not more she nodded and relaxed

 

"Huh... oh... Samidha was speechless

 

"looks great the doctor nodded smiling at the screen

 

"Thank u Samidha spoke hoarsely

 

"Yes... thanks Avyaan agreed

 

"U have nothing to worry, you both are young and healthy...

 

She was overwhelmed, the day had been a true roller coaster, her own mother had shunned her, and now she was seeing her daughter be alive... and kicking

 

She tried to keep it together... The best she could

 

The doctor was explaining when the next one was going to be, and about the birth defect testing at 16 weeks

 

She barely paid any attention to it

"Baby... She called out in her mind and watched spellbound as the tiny human wiggled inside her, goosebumps formed all over skin as she imagined the baby smiling.

 

She imagined herself teaching her how to say "Amma... it would sound like "mmmah "mah

 

 

 

She realized what a momentous day this was

 

He helped her up, and offered extra towels so she could wipe her belly, and helped her get off the flatbed

And she changed shakily, shivering... relieved, happy and distraught all at the same time

 

She came out in a much better shape

 

He was on his cell phone texting

 

"I will see you in a few weeks? the Doctor squeezed her arm

 

She nodded and thanked her with hands joined in prayer

 

"Thanks she muttered as they walked through the corridor

 

"Sure... I had an open afternoon

 

"Are u going home? she asked longingly wondering if he would ask to give her a ride

 

"Umm.. no he said cryptically

 

"OK

 

They parted ways outside

 

He watched her get in her car and pull away, the afternoon, after rain sunshine, burning hot

 

She hit the radio... "Ammah calling her phone urged

 

She didn't answer

 

Why are these two not recognising their emotions.

The first fetal untrasound ... the feeling and emotions is one of revealing awe, blessings, gift, wonder and a miracle of life one gets to experience happening for your benefit. It's very powerful shift at the way you look at life happening .

The day she got to experience this wonder, she has decided to distance herself from any kind of negativity including her own mom's. Most telling .

But I do get the feeling that something cryptic around Avyaan's feigned normalcy after her call, the whole baby saran addressable and his no to her that he's not going home with her after the ultrasound is bothering me. Where is he headed and what's he up to?...may be he is also overwhelmed by this experience and is seeking solitude to internalize it???



Let's hope these things work out better.

Admission

 

He didn't come home for dinner that night nor the following night, the mornings, he wasn't overly cheerful and friendly, but kept things civil and polite

 

The dog left her alone mwhen she came home the first few minutes were nerve wracking so she always had the guard hang out for a few minutes, of his maid was still in the building she asked for help

 

She was used to living here now, the house was very clean, and quiet. She could hardly hear the neighbors

 

The newly remodeled inside was spectacular

 

There was zero disruption, she could work or sleep without being bothered by the 15 other PG girls

 

No smell of mustard oil or fish... both of which she wasn't used to

 

In this condition it would make her feel worse

 

She MISSED HIM

 

She walked over to the living room after a late evening nap, and the dog woke up and walked over and sniffed her toes as she froze

 

"Plz plz plz don't do anything she begged

 

He wagged his tail and looked up at her

 

She nervously reached and felt his head

 

He went beserk... panting and running around in circles as if he knew that there was a nugget of acceptance from Samidha

 

She was going to tell Mrs Mitra tomorrow about moving out, she had been fielding texts with one excuse or another

 

She had never been gone for so long from CR Park anyway

 

"I am going to tell Mrs Mitra she told him next morning

 

"Great he nodded

 

"Uve been busy she mumbled, packing her laptop

 

"Yep he nodded

 

"Will you be home tonight?

 

"I am always home at night he grinned

 

"For dinner? she asked longingly

 

He SAW THAT

 

He lost his train of scarcastic thought

 

"Umm.. I... I am... I am not sure he was flustered

 

"That's fine she looked away sadly

 

She went to take a shower, he went out for a run with the dog

 

She left before he returned

 

Warring with her own mother didn't bother her as much as the broken down equation with Avyaan

 

She had started to need him along the way

 

His presence made her happy.

 

She missed the laughter and his corralling the group for a game night or watch party

 

"He must be having those chats at the office and going over directly to their homes, enjoying the evening and returning to bed

 

Sigh!!

 

She had the phone numbers of Rumi and a couple others in the group

She thought of prying, then changed her mind and finally texted Rumi

 

"What show are u guys watching?

 

"Don't laugh she said and didn't say anything for a few hours

 

Around lunch she said "Hey sorry what did u ask?

 

"Never mind...

 

"Oh never mind... found your text... duh! "Oh we are watching Friends she sent a bunch of ROFL memes

 

"I LOVE that show she felt terrible upon knowing

 

"He never told me... I would have immediately gotten ready and gone to watch she thought wistfully

 

"Be glad u are not watching it Rumi texted

 

"Really?

 

Rumi: "I just go for the food... and to giggle with the girls

 

Samidha: U girls are a fun bunch

 

They were like her Bangalore group...

S: I am the same... in the mornings... I eat and throw up... but she seems to be growing so I must be saving a spoonful in my stomach

Samidha wished it was an invite for a watch party

Went to meet Mervyn for dinner and returned late

 

When she let herself in, he was in his fave spot on the corner couch of the pristine white sofas, under the white shade lamp, on his laptop, and his beats

 

Toast scampered to check her out

 

He removed his head set and checked her out

He got off the couch

"U ate already? she turned, his back to him and held the wall and took off her sandals

 

Her cotton saree soaked in places

 

"Special day? he asked staring at the fire red saree

"U shud have texted "I cooked he was unreasonably angry

 

"I cooked 3 days in a row? she leaned on the wall confused

"U said dinner... with who?
