America is really diverse, you know, so successful with who? With young people and popular culture so to speak probably PC. With, for lack of a better term, more mature culture, probably Dev. She did Quantico and Baywatch. He did the Newsroom and Lion. Those are very, very different target audiences.

Yea esp in UK he is famous among 50+ audience probably due to Exotic Marigold films or Lion!

Priyanka Chopra is first and foremost a Bollywood star. So saying who is more popular internationally is a little silly to ask because PC has a huge fan following due to Bollywood alone. A lot of people who gave Quantico a chance were PC's Bollywood fans for the sake of PC herself.

Dev Patel has his share of recognition, but it's different.

I don't think it's fair to compare because he's had a big head start but I think he is known (or not) as a serious actor who makes good films. She is known (or not) as a pretty woman, successful overseas, who wants to be famous here. Maybe if she's given better films or he's offered a franchise role that will change.

Dev is definitely on the right track, he is doing work that PC would only love to do in Hollywood. However, the question is who is more successful and well known internationally. I think it's safe to say that PC is more famous internationally.

The thing is, outside India, the people who watch Indian films are almost always of Indian descent. There is not currently any real international market for Indian films with few exceptions like the Lunchbox. Some Chinese star I've never heard of could be the most successful "international " star if all he/she needed was a fan base at home and the Chinese diaspora abroad. That's not truly international.

Priyanka is a well-known, famous Bollywood actress. We aren't talking about Nimrat Kaur who also has done work outside of India, but isn't a famous Bollywood actress. Indians are all over the world. Needless to say PC's fandom doesn't begin and end with Indians. Even if you just want to consider people residing in the subcontinent alone - Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka etc. - they are are all over the world...they're all familiar with Priyanka Chopra and now with her becoming more global, in my opinion she is more the international star than Dev is. A lot of her commercial success in the west is because of the support she has received from her Bollywood fandom. I only gave Quantico a shot because of PC for obvious reasons..

Dev Patel has received good recognition, but I still see PC to be more famous internationally.

We have different perspectives which is fine. The subcontinent is the target audience of Indian cinema, so people from there living somewhere else is still the diaspora. Shah Rukh Khan has the same reach and has not worked at all in the west and I am sure some white people who've never seen a single film of his and couldn't pick him out of a lineup would recognize his name; those same people will never pay for a ticket to his film or appearances. If that is internationally successful to you then he's internationally successful. In my opinion if the name recognition doesn't lead to a truly international (white, black, brown, etc) audience, its not truly international success.
