The Witch
Usually I'm not much into movies with strong Christian themes because I've watched too many of them and now I can't tell one from the other. But once I started watching this, I didn't for a second regret it. Special mention to the language. It is so appropriate for its period and the dialogues are so interesting, they kept me hooked. I thought the parts of the story which weren't supernatural were equally well written. Whether it was the mother-daughter strained relationship or the brother gazing inappropriately at his sister. Also, how easily things can spiral out of control.

I'm not sure if I really believe that there was an actual witch, especially after I read another theory somewhere that all of them were just hallucinating. It seems probable to me. They were rather drowned in guilt from the moment the film started. And too much of fear of God can make a person delusional. So, yeah I'd like to believe there wasn't an actual supernatural force at all.

Sujatha (1959)

Watched this movie in parts with gaps in between over the past 4-5 days, so I may be forgetting some things.

Overall, a very nice movie... the theme is caste discrimination.

I like the language and dialogue delivery.

Direction is good.

Actors are good.

Sunil Dutt is handsome.

I loved the father's character.

My favorite part was the beginning of the movie where Charu, the mother sings to the babies.

Loved the songs.

I really love Sujatha's forgiving nature... Is this a trait highlighted by all Bimal Roy movies.

Just One of The Guys (1985)

One of the oldies but I liked it. Has the charm of the 80s and old school acting. The comic scenes were great. Especially Buddy. He was on fire LOL. The lead had a very drawn out way of speaking her dialogues and I .. didn't like it that much. It was okay, just a bit tiring. The ending was predictable but not boring really. So, I liked it.

Coffee and Cigarettes (2003)

Entirely shot in black and white, is an anthology of 11 short films, involving 2 or 3 characters having a tete-a-tete over coffee and cigarettes, with some music occasionally, and a tea replacing coffee. All the actors and musicians in this movie have their original name, most of them play themselves..

The characters in each of those 11 short films are never on the same page or the same wavelength, each conversation is marked by a palpable awkwardness, abrupt awkward silences, visible mood changes, however if there's one thing that connects them, it's coffee and the cigarettes, and that, they all mean well for each other.

There are some recurring dialogues, and one of them is Nikola Tesla's quote of Earth being a conductor of acoustical resonance... and a recurring clink of coffee cups :D

I loved this movie a lot, such a underrated gem. Couldn't stop smiling.

It felt kinda intimate too, oddly enough. Maybe because the setting over a table of coffee and cigarettes is intimate afterall.. has a relaxed, cozy vibe, the actors are normal, their body language is superbly portrayed... each character so different yet so normal.. so much to relate to.. Also, felt like I was looking into their personal space for some reason.. i like such scenes where characters eat or change clothes or shave lol - mundane but fascinating to observe the minutiae of day to day life :p

I enjoy the seemingly empty or awkward conversations like in this movie, where one person is trying to understand another even though they are on different pages.. misinterpretation, the awkwardness, awkward silences, the mood alteration, and they all mean well, ultimately..

Cate Blanchett plays a dual role in this movie, she is a good actor :-) ..there's one old actor I fell in love with - Taylor Mead, he's a beautiful person... And, the cast comprises of actors and musicians, Bill Murray, Steve Buscemi, Robert Benigni, RZA, GZA, Iggy Pop and so on.

A must-watch for all movie lovers, a break from the usual movie style :-)

I guess from the description you have provided, this movie seems to be a classy one. But, the question is that is it available on YouTube or I have to download it?

Sanju:-

This movie gave me headache, big headache. This was my 1st RK movie in theatre after the disastrous Besharam experience.

Hirani ki safedi aside, the plot was not that good. They just focussed on cleaning Sanju's image so much that they just showed only two aspects of his life- drugs and terrorism. Plot was written solely to show -hey sanju was just innocent guy, it was other people who were villains, not him. Whatever.

My next negative point is bad direction, RK's Sanju was acting even outside the filmy scene. He was never at home, just acting. Like I dont believe Sanju who is son of two distinguise personalities will say-watt lag rahi hai. It was like Hirani cudnot imagine Sanjay past his Munnabhai personality. My another problem was slouching. I doubt SD walks like that in real life. Let me pick some finer points. I think many will get back to me on these. Wearing chains etc in award function- really? I doubt SD did that. They wud have given him a shirt pant rather than that Bhai personna wardrobe. Also I wud have liked Sunil Dutt calling Arshad Warsi Arshad rather than Circuit. He was not circuit on sets

Hirani kept Sanju in permanent Munnabhai shooting mode in 2nd half. Another negative, why didnt they show his first wife who also died in mid 90s.

Acting was alright. Vicky Kaushal surprised me alot like really alot. I loved him the most but they also showed him a culprit in abandoning Sanju. RK overreacted in many parts. Same for Paresh Rawal. But I blame script for those dramatics.

One and half stars from my side for getting all mannerism to the point and Manisha and Vicky kaushal. Script was bad. Hirani failed in 2nd half of PK and here also he failed in 2nd half.

Nicely put .
