I understand if she doesn't know Hindi because that was just not spoken as much in her household, that can be understandable in certain situations. But it shouldn't be unreasonable to expect someone to be able to speak some parts of Hindi before actually going for a debut. Especially someone who was raised in Mumbai, India. With the resources available to these star kids, surely they can afford a tutor?

I don't like Jhanvi but if her home language isn't Hindi then can't blame her I guess

I have two preteen cousins who don't speak the native language at all despite living in the country for the past 4-5yrs n it being their mother tongue because their parents n school only use English. They can understand it perfectly well but isn't comfortable talking

But in this case as she is planning the make a career out of Hindi films she should make some efforts to learn I guess

Someone growing up in India, not necessarily have to know Hindi. But if she wants to be in Bollywood, she should learn to speak. (It still may not be fluent). Sridevi, Deepika's accent can never become as good as North Indians. But they manage. Even Jhansi can.

But it is a surprise if she does not know, as she has a Punjabi father. Some kids may find it superior, not knowing Hindi.

I have heard Esha/Aahana Deol too spoke in Tamil but hardly knew Punjabi.

I think Telugu is her first language not Tamil, she said so in several IVs - she went out of her way to emphasize that - but she grew up in Chennai so I think fluent in Tamil too

Her kids might understand Telugu but I doubt they're fluent

True, Sridevi's mom was Telugu and dad a Tamilian.

Sridevi could barely speak Hindi in the 80s..her voice used to be dubbed by another artist..it's only in the 90s when she was at her peak in bollywood did she stop getting her dialogues dubbed..hoping Jhanvi can speak Hindi better than her or has exceptional acting skills like her mom that over power other flaws..

She must have grasped the language by now. Don't worry daddy KJo will polish her as needed.

She does have a pleasant smile reminiscent of younger Sridevi. 😃

Hope she has inhereted her mom's acting genes. 😊

This video is at least 4 years old. She might be more fluent now as she is going to debut.

But growing up most people, especially from the schools the starkids are from, no one converses in Hindi. The stars you mentioned must have certainly gone for training too before debuting 😆 And no, I don't find Alia or Sonam to be anywhere near fluent with their Hindi.
