Part- 7

Naira was aware of slowly opening her eyes. She was on a sofa. She tried to remember what had happened. She remembered fainting and falling down and sombody caught her. Then she remembered why she was at this place "Karthik" she screamed...

Before fifteen minutes

She opened the resort which was pitch dark and kept calling out Karthik's name and his painful screams echoed in the place, though she was not able to see anything. Suddenly the lights came on and there was a high pitched scream

"SURPRISE!!!!!!!" and then there was everyone there.. all her cousins right from Mishti and Kuhu till Ananya. Still not able to understand what was happening, she kept walking mechanically like a robot into the room dazed, her eyes searching only for him

And then he came, smiling broadly from cheek to cheek "Welcome Mrs Rishikesh, how was my thrilling and chilling surprise? Happy birthday once again!! He said and pointed to the party room that had been set up.

Naira felt different emotions all at the same time. Relief, frustration, love, most of all anger, anger at each and every one of them for making her go through hell for making her think Karthik was in danger.

While the girls expression changed from smiles to grim, understanding her situation, Naksh and Karthik were laughing out loud pointing to Naira " Look at her face na, how scared she is, she believes whatever anyone says" and hi-fied each other

She was aware that the room was spinning and someone caught her, who else would it be except for her frog prince.

She now opened her eyes to see him right by her side, looking very serious

"Naira, how are you feeling" he asked her taking her hand

"This was a joke? A joke played on me? And all of you were in it? She asked looking at everyone in disbelief

"Sorry Naira, I wanted to give you a surprise. We were kidding, We thought you would take it as a sport" Karthik told

"As a sport?" Naira yelled "As a sport? Do you even know what I went through when I got that call? I felt like dying Karthik, I felt like dying. You think this is a joke? Is this something to joke about? I... I... " Naira was so angry that she was in loss of words, her eyes blazed with anger

Karthik tried to hug her but Naira shook it off

"Don't touch me, Don't even come near me. I don't know what I'll do. I might slap you." She screamed.

Karthik was really alarmed to see her now. Naira got up and walked away from him while the others stood not knowing what to do

"Naira" Karthik ran behind her but was stopped once again by her

"Don't talk to me" She screamed. "You thought my love for you as a joke" she yelled at the top of her voice and suddenly caught her stomach and cried out in pain " Maa" she cried out and started writhing in pain.

Karthik could not stand it anymore." We need to get her to the hospital" he screamed and ran and collected her in her arms , took her into his car with Keerthi sitting by her in the car to drive to the hospital while others followed suit.

Naira was unconscious again by the time they reached her to the hospital and was rushed into the ICU. Karthik was on the verge of tears now " Krishnaji, please save her. I just wanted to have fun and it turned out to be bad"

" I told you guys not to do this and you people also forced me into this. This was what I was scared of" Keerthi scolded the mischief planners, Naksh and Karthik.

The doctor came out and asked " Where is he husband of the patient" while Karthik stepped up " Doctor? She is OK right? Please tell me she is OK" he begged

The doctor seemed to be very tensed" I have told you during all the check ups that she needs to be relaxed. Checking her BP, it seems like it has been very volatile for the past few hours. She looks like she has gone through undue stress and is not responding to our treatment Both her child and her life is in a critical condition now."

Karthik could not take it " Doctor what are you saying, please treat her" The doctor shook her head " I don't think I can do anything now. At least only after four hours Ill be able to say anything. Till then she would be in a critical condition.

Karthik broke down " What have I done, Naira, Naira" Doctor can I see her? He asked?

The doctor told " Yes you can, In fact all of you can. Maybe she'll get conscious listening to you Only thing she should not get hyper again or life will be in danger"

The entire lot of them went inside, everyone in tears. She was lying down on the bed, her eyes closed peacefully. Karthik sat by her bed, took her hand and clasped it within his

" Naira, I am sorry . I am really really sorry. Please open your eyes" he told and broke down completely, he kept her hand near his eyes and sobbed into it.

" Only you know to give surprise huh" he heard a voice and saw her smiling at him

"Naira" he told in shock

"Tit for tat ..." Naira giggled weakly. I fainted really but there is nothing serious. This is just to give a taste of your own medicine to you guys to make you understand how painful it is for someone when you know your loved one is suffering

"Naira, you are fine na? You are fine na? Karthik kept repeating and stroking her head

" I am fine Karthik. I am perfectly fine. But what you did was not fine. How could you think that was a joke? I'll take it as a joke? If something happens to you, I'll die Karthik . I mean it" she told while Karthik closed her mouth

"Naira, we shall not talk about death" he said his voice choked as her kissed her hands.

"Naira we are all sorry" Naksh came and told " Actually idea was mine and Karthik's". The girls were not Ok with it, but we forced them into it"

" I ve forgiven you all. But please do not play a game like this again. I will take my own life I promise" she warned

"Chikku, I don't feel good here Can we all go home? Can we all have a sleepover? Like how we had for Akshara bua's birthday? Ananya asked

"Yes di, come on" Naira told, the entire lot went to the Singhania mansion

They all had a nice evening with music, dance and food Before anyone knew, they were all fast asleep in the hall with mattresses, contended with their day.

Karthik was shaken out of his sleep with Naksh and he had Yash , Vivaan and Ranveer by his side.

" Karthik, I need to talk to you," wake up Naksh whispered

"What yaar? Allow me to sleep na? Kartik grumbled

Naksh made Karthik sit up. " Come to the garden. I want to talk something with you guys"

"Naksh its past midnight" Karthik yawned sleepily and followed the guys to the garden.

"OK, I am going to tell you guys something that should not be known to the girls." Naksh told in a low voice but was clearly tensed

" What happened Naksh? Why are you so tensed?" Yash asked

"Mumma has always said that bad thoughts should be avoided because they have a bad way of coming out to be true. In the same way, the game we played today has turned out to be true" Naksh said

"What are you saying Naksh" Karthik asked

"Naman chachu has really escaped out of jail" Naksh told as Karthik burst out into laughter followed by others

" Seriously, we are playing this game now? Oh Naksh, come on yaar. I wont get terrified like your sister. Stop fooling us" as Karthik continued to laugh

"Karthik, stop it . I am serious" Naksh told however Karthik did not seem to understand

"Inspector is going to come here now. Karthik, I need your support. Please be serious" Naksh told shaking Karthik who was now confused .

They saw the police car coming without a siren. Karthik understood the gravity of the situation and rushed with the others to meet the police

"Mr.Singhania, your uncle has escaped from jail 4 hours back and we fear that he might come here to harm your family. Two policemen shall be stationed here disguised as a watchman and a driver to give you protection. We request you also too be vigilant and give me a call if there is anything. I have only one worry that he might already be inside the house given you were not here in the evening"

Karthik felt a fear grip his throat. Naksh told " Thank you inspector. We shall be alert"

They went inside the house clearly tensed, however decided not to tell the girls and the kids anything.

They sat in the hall without sleeping without talking to each other, as they were worried if they spoke, they would voice their worst fears

Time- 2 AM

"Guys Tea anyone " as everyone nodded and Karthik offered to make tea and got up.

Then several things happened at the same minute

The power went off. Two gun shots were heard outside, while there was a loud rapping on the front door.

The commotion was enough to wake everyone up.

" None of you shall move from your places" Karthik told the girls and the kids.

The guys used their mobile torches to go near the door, which was almost being broken open now.

"Karthik, whats happening?" Naira screamed

" Shut up. Don't talk and don't dare to move from that place anyone" Karthik hissed.

The door was finally broken open by the opposite party and the power came back for everyone to let out a gap of fear

" Hello folks. Naman returns" Naman told as he walked into the room with a high pitched laughter

"Wow, the entire third generation of the Singhania and the Maheshwaris and I guess an upcoming generation of the Goenkas" he told looking at Naira.

Before anyone could react he and his two men took guns out of their pockets and pointed it at Karthik and Naira.

"Its pay day friends, Its pay back day for Naman Singania. All of you, savour the last minute of your life. I am going to kill each and everyone of you, except my daughter here. Now who would like to go first?

Mishti was trembling in fear holding Kuhu's and Nannu's hands.

" Chachu" Naksh yelled and ran towards him, but Naman pointed the gun at Naira which made him stop

" Now don't try to become a hero, anyone. As it is each and every one of you are going to die. I shall decide the order. First the love birds he told looking at Karthik and Naira.

The power went off again, however the torches were still on to make things visible

Naman fired directly at Naira, Karthik came in between the bullet, however before the bullet could reach Karthik, another person pushed Karthik precisely at the same moment and the bullet pierced right through the person's stomach.

"NO!!!!!!" Karthik yelled looking at his saviours body in free fall...

To be continued...Sorry for the slight assassination of Karthik's character. I shall try to do better in the next part.

Part 8

Hope there are no cricket bats this time... I have updated in one day as promised !!! :-)

Karthik ran to catch his survivor from falling down "No... No... "He shouted. " Why did you have to come in?"

Naman was not done yet. In the moment where everyone where distracted, he pointed the gun again at Naira.

Before he could fire, somebody else shot Naman twice, one on the leg and the next one on the shoulder, making him drop his gun

Police came in from behind, pulled up Naman" We knew this would happen, that is why I had stationed additional police here without telling you. We are taking him to the hospital for treatment from where he shall be produced in the court again. We let him escape once, he can't escape again. This is attempt to murder again. The punishment shall be graver and he may get life imprisonment. "

"Ambulance is on the way, it will be here in two minutes. Rush to the hospital and be thankful for the one who saved your life" The inspector informed and carried Naman in another ambulance who was still vowing to take revenge

Karthik took his saviour onto his lap and called out "PAPA?"

Manish Goenka smiled in his pain "Karthik beta, nothing happened to you na? Naira, Keerthi, you both are fine na?

Naira and Keerthi knelt down behind Karthik who was in tears.

"Papa, Nothing shall happen to you. Please keep talking Papa, we need you Papa" Naira started sobbing while Keerthi who had already broken down could not open her mouth to speak anything

"Why did you come in between, why did you save me" Karthik cried hugging his father's head.

"Beta, I care for you. I cannot see you die. Karthik, I am sorry, I am sorry . I want to say it before I die .Maybe this is my redemption for whatever wrong I have done to you." Manish said with gasps, stroking Karthik's cheeks with his blood stained hands and slipped into unconsciousness.

"Papa no Papa, don't close your eyes" Karthik shouted "Where is the ambulance??" he screamed frantically?

"Karthik, come we shall take him by car. We cannot wait for an ambulance anymore" Naksh said.

"Keerthi you and Karthik come. Others please stay at home" Naksh told

"No" Naira shouted "I shall also come, please"

"Naira, in the situation you are in..." Naksh started but stopped " OK, it's a waste of time arguing with you. We don't have time. Come, he told"

Karthik and Naksh carried Manish to the car. Naksh took up with driving the car with Naira by his side while Keerthi and Karthik sat behind. Karthik was continuously muttering "Papa, Papa, please speak to me"

Manish was rushed into the hospital straight to the operation theatre, where the doctors did the basic first aid.

"We need blood. AB -ve blood group. It is a rare group. We shall sent word to our blood bank but we might lose time in that in saving him. The bullet is very close to the heart and we need to operate right away. Does anyone else of you have the same group, being his family?

"Doctor, I have, please I shall give blood. Please save him, he is my father" Karthik spoke up and went with the doctor right away.

After a good half an hour, Karthik came back. He looked pale and weak with blood taken from his body, more because of the mental trauma he had been through

"We are starting the surgery right now. It may take three to four hours for us" The doctor told and rushed to the OT.

Karthik was now weeping. Keerthi hugged him and said "Nothing shall happen Karthik, Nothing shall happen. He shall be back, just see"

"Keerthi, if anything happens to him, I am responsible, I shall never be able to carry that guilt for my life" Karthik sobbed into Keerthi's shoulder.

Naira leaned on Naksh's shoulder, deciding to give Karthik , his own personal space.

The minutes seemed like hours. Karthik got up and went to the small temple inside the hospital

"Kyon Krishnaji, what is the happiness you get by taking people away from me? You took my mom when I was little, you separated my sister away from me , and now my father. Yes I was away from him, I was angry with him, In fact I hated him, but in this condition, I cannot hide my love. He is my father, nothing can change that and I have affection towards him, nothing can change that either. Please Krishnaji, please save my father' Karthik cried in front of his God, while Naira and Keerthi stood by his side.

It was almost 7 in the morning now. The surgery was still going on

"Di, I want to ask you something. Should we not inform his wife about this? Naira asked.

"Naira, now is not the time for that. Let the surgery get over"

Another anxious hour passed. Neither Karthik, nor Keerthi had had anything; Naira was forced to drink some juice at least, given her health condition.

The red bulb of the OT was finally switched off and the doctor came out "The operation was a success. We were able to remove the bullet, without causing damage to his heart. He is out of danger; however the next 24 hours shall be critical."

Karthik looked still, his tear stained face choking up with relief. "Thank you doctor" he said with folded hands.

"It is thanks to you sir. Yesterday the blood was not available at the blood bank. Had you not given blood, his life would not have been saved

It was Keerthi's turn to break down now. She had acted strong enough for the past few hours and could not bear anymore. Without realising who it was, she fell on Naksh's shoulder and began to weep.

Naksh though he felt awkward felt he should support the situation and held her hand and said "Everything shall be OK Keerthi, everything shall be OK"

Manish was wheeled out of the OT and to the special individual ward. Karthik went with him inside the ward and said "I shall be with him, till he wakes up. I want to see him when he wakes up. Please give me some private time. He said

Naira, Keerthi and Naksh respecting his decision, sat outside the ward.

After 5 hours

Karthik had almost dozed off by his father's side and was awakened by a small movement of Manish's hand

"Papa? He whispered.

Manish smiled weakly" Say it again? What did you call me? Manish asked, a tear from his eye

Karthik took his hand and the word barely being able to come out of his mouth due to the choked emotion" Papa? He said once again

Manish ran his hand on Karthik's head "Karthik, my son, after how many years am I hearing this from you?

" I am sorry Papa, I am sorry, sorry, sorry" was all that Karthik could say

"No Karthik, I am sorry." Manish told

"Papa, doesn't talk Papa, Doctor has told you should not strain yourself."

"No please allow me to speak. I want to talk to you beta. Please don't stop me

"Papa, do you want me to call her" Karthik asked

"No, not her. I don't want to see her face again in my life. Karthik, please allow me to tel you everything"

"Ok Papa, please talk. But..."

"Karthik, listen to me. I have divorced her. Yesterday morning" Manish told as Karthik looked shocked

"What?" he asked " Divorce?"

"I was cheated beta, She has cheated me all my married life with her. I never realised it as my love for her was blind and I thought she loved me purely also. But she has never loved me Karthik" Manish said, with no emotion in his voice

"I knew it Papa, I knew it all along, from childhood"

Manish: I did not know it Karthik, Like a fool I gave her words more value than my children. Like a fool I believed all her stories about you and Keerthi and punished you along with her. Like a fool I put you both in different hostels and deprived you of the love and affection you needed.

Karthik: Papa, you are getting emotional. We shall talk about this later

Manish( catching Karthik's hand): No listen to me please. I realised this and found about her fake love around 3.5 years back. Just around the time of your marriage. I realised it when she had forged all official and property documents and taken it in her name without me knowing. I started a battle then with her without telling anyone

Then I understood. Without power and money, I did not mean anything to her. She started ignoring me; sometimes made sure I don't eat and fell sick. I still had to office because she did not want anyone to doubt her. However I did not have any authority. I signed where she asked to, did what she told me to do, because she threatened me she will cause harm to you and Keerthi if I did not listen to her

Karthik: But papa, you were silent for all this time

Manish: Yes, I was silent for all this time because she was harming only me. But three months back, I could not take it and I slapped her in office in front of everybody. That was the cue to the divorce battle.

She made it look like a domestic abuse and pressurised the court to believe that I abused her. All evidences were against me. The office CCTV camera acted as a proof that I had slapped her. We had multiple court sessions and finally we were divorced officially yesterday morning

Karthik: But I saw you, yesterday..

Manish: Yes, I saw you seeing me, I was returning from the court when that small incident happened. I was praying to all gods that you would come to me. But I knew you would not Cos I don't deserve your love.

Karthik: Papa, don't say like that. I was angry on you, but I have always thought about you at least once a day. My ego did not allow me to accept it..Naira and Keerthi asked me so many times to come and talk to you. But I didn't. I am a bad son.

Manish: No I was bad. I have done so much bad to my children that I don't deserve to live. Please kill me now.. Please Please.. Manish shouted as he began hyperventilating

Karthik ran out of the room and shouted " Doctor!!!".

The doctor's crew ran inside and pushed an agitated Karthik out.

Karthik stood still outside the door watching the doctors treat his father. He felt numb. He has gone through a lot in the past few days, varied emotions, anger, fear, grief, love, pain. Naira came and stood beside him, took his hand and said " Papa will come back Karthik"

Part- 9

Karthik stood still at the entrance of his father's room while the doctors tried to resuscitate his father. He could not cry anymore. He did not have the energy to cry anymore. All he knew was his father should come back and would come back.

The police commissioner came and gave Karthik an understanding look.

"I understand your and your family's situation now. But we have some more news for you"

Karthik just nodded his head while Naira, Naksh and Keerthi came and stood by his side

"There was one more person instrumental to the attempted attack on your family last night and I am sorry to inform you that it was Mrs. Kamya Manish Goenka. We arrested her also last night"

"What" Karthik shouted?

"Mr. Karthik, if there is someone who you should thank for having saved your lives, it is your father. He alerted us of Naman's escape from jail last night, for which Mrs Manish had helped him."

"The motive behind both their plan was property. Naman wanted to take over the property of his brother while Kamya was scared that you would reconcile with your father with the help of your wife and the property would come to you. She had met Naman in jail last week and with the help of her status and money she bribed jail officials to help Naman escape. Your father overheard Kamya's men talking about this yesterday and alerted us. Also he had been following you the whole day to make sure you were safe and no harm. We had warned him not to risk his life, however he was not worried about his life being in danger and made sure you and your family were safe.

Karthik sat down on the hospital chair buried his head in his hands. Naira held his hand for support. He sat in that position for around half an hour and declared that Manish was safe and could be shifted to a normal ward now,

Karthik was overwhelmed. He went inside the room yet again and sat by his father. He gripped his fathers hand tightly and told him" I'll not leave you Papa. You are mine now. You are my family, I shall make sure she gets the punishment for her crime. I am with you always" and smiled at his father

Manish smiled back at him with tears of happiness flowing from his eyes. Naira and Keerthi entered the room. Keerthi came to her dad's side and wiped the tears from her own eyes.

"No one shall cry Papa, no one shall cry anymore. All our bad times are over. We are there with you and for you" Naira said as Karthik and Manish smiled at each other.

Karthik came out of the room and went to the temple inside the hospital and folded his hands and prayed with his eyes closed " Thank you Krishnaji, for listening to my prayers. I shall be grateful to you always for this. Please continue to be by mine and my family's side. I do not want anything else more"

After ten days...

Manish was discharged from the hospital and returned home with Karthik, to Karthik's place. Karthik opened the car door for his father and said " Come Papa, this is our house, your house. No one can separate you and your family."

Naira had cooked all his favorite dishes. Manish's voice was choked with emotion as he had. " Its been a long time since I had food like this'" he told, while Karthik patted his shoulder and smiled.

"This is your world now Papa. You don't have to worry about anything from now on.. " Keerthi told him

"But I ruined my daughter's life, I gave you to a rogue and look what he did to your life? i can never forgive myself for that."

"Papa please don't worry about that, I am happy the way I am" Keerthi told him with a hug..

Naksh was watching this with a deep expression on his face which was noticed by two people in the room.

Naira was sleeping holding Karthik s hand tightly.. somehow the entire shooting incident had freaked her out...

"Karthik" she called out to him urgently and he woke up with a jerk totally alarmed..

"What happened?? Are you okay?? Any problem?? He shouted very concerned.

" I am feeling hungry.. I am not able to sleep because of that" she told him

"My princess is like her papa... she loves to eat.. you sit here.. I'll cut some fruits and bring some milk for you" he told her..

" No.. I want pakoras.. onion pakoras... please I feel like having them now.."

"Now ?? Are you mad?? It's 1 am... pakoras now?" Karthik scolded her

"Karthik please... I will not be able to have anything else now.. I want only pakoras..." Naira sulked..

" Fine you get your wish.. not for you but for my princess.. You sit here .. I'll make pakoras and come" Karthik told amused..

"I am also coming" Naira told.. Karthik knew it was hopeless arguing with her.. she won anyway and grinned...

Karthik made Naira sit on the kitchen slab as he prepared the dough for pakoras and cut onions and green chillies..

Naira watched him lovingly. Her eyes started watering as Karthik was cutting onions..

"See this is why I told you to stay in the room itself" Karthik told as he mixed the onions and dough..

" Come here" Naira called out to him. And he came in front of her she hugged him and kissed his cheek " I love you mendak" she told..

" I love you too my Sherni.." he told as he kissed her on the forehead while she leaned forward and showed her cheek also on which he gave a peck..

"Now don't disturb masterchef goenka" he winked and proceeded with making pakoras..

"Your wish is my command madam" he told as he proudly presented a plate of pakoras on seeing which Nairas eyes lit up like a kid given its favourite chocolate..

Karthik took a piece and fed her.. Naira reciprocated the same and fed him.." hmmm yummm " she drooled as she relished the pakoras...

" Princess says thank you papa" she mimicked like a kid as Karthik looked at her adoring her...

Keerthi was watching this from the stairs with a shy smile thinking how romantic a couple could get.. however a sudden grief filled her heart and she ran inside her room and shut the door..

"Why am I feeling so lonely?? She thought.. I was happy the way I am then why this confusion ?? And why do I think of Naksh often?? Why do I feel so happy when I see him??"

At the same time.. Naksh was pacing on his room.." Keerthi is the sister of your brother in law.. that's it.. why do you think so much about her?? Cut the feelings.. you can't risk yourself falling in this trap again or here Nairas life Is also at stake.." he thought..

Keerthi and Naksh had become really good friends.. Naksh helped a lot while Manish was at the hospital and both of them had started questioning their feelings within themselves..

After two weeks

Things had started returning to normal. It was the day of the court hearing for Naman and Kamya. The verdict was supposed to be given that day.

Manish was extremely restless and nervous. Karthik and Naira were also worried, but did not show their expressions outside.

The verdict was given- fifteen years of rigorous imprisonment for both of them. Naman and Kamya were waiting outside the court.

Manish came outside the court with Karthik, gave Kamya a look of loathing, while Karthik did not even loo at her face.

Naira came out of the court with Akshara by her side. Akshara went to Naman and said " I don't even know what to say to you. Your brother did not even want to see your face. Still take this as a chance and come back as a changed person if you can. From now, Karishma will be the daughter of our house" and left the place.

It was now Naira's turn. Looking at both of them with blazing anger in her eyes she screamed

" What kind of people are both of you. How can you even value money more than people? Did the money you have save you today?

"You" she said looking at Naman" You are supposed to be like my father. You tried to kill your own brother once, and now you wanted to kill me, along with a small soul within me, How can you even be classified into human? I had so much respect at you. I though you will come reformed when you were arrested 4 years back. But no, you have not changed one bit. You disgust me.

"And you" she said looking at Kamya- " You call yourself a woman? You made childhood a hell for Karthik and Keerthi di, you cheated the man who gave up even his children for the love he had for you. Money, Money, can't you think more than this ? Did Karthik or I ever ask you for a share of wealth? All I wanted is to let Karthik have his father's love. The anger I have at you, I don't know what to say. You deserve this, you deserve more than this."

Naira turned away from both of them and walked towards her family, however she looked back at Naman and Kamya and went back to them.

With folded hands, she told both of them " You both are elder in age to me and I spoke to you without respect. I am sorry. Please forgive me, I was just angry since you attempted to kill. Our family is still incomplete without both if you. If you want to come back as a changed person, our homes and hearts will always be open for you" she told, touched both their feet and went to Karthik and Manish, who watched her with pride on their faces.

Manish looked at Kamya and Naman being taken away. He knew it would take time to come out of this mental turmoil that he was going through... he felt cheated by the person he loved, he felt guilty for ruining his children's childhood and he regretted the life he had lived.. he was disgusted with himself..

He knew he had a long mental and emotional battle to be fought.. but he knew he could do it.. he felt more strong than he had ever felt before as he leaned on to his son for support.
