Multiplex films rarely open strong in the morning shows. They always pick up in the evening shows

Udta Punjab Excellent Opening In North - Good Overall

Udta Punjab has taken an excellent start of 50% plus in Delhi city and East Punjab while other places range from good to average. Overall its a good opening in the 35% range driven by Delhi city, East Punjab and other metros like Mumbai and Bangalore. The initial is on par with a big film like Housefull 3 and only Fan (holiday) and Baaghi can be called better in terms of occupancy in morning shows.

The controversy with its release has aided the initial of the film. The collections in Delhi city and East Punjab could challenge the biggest opener of the year Fan as the morning collections there are on par with Fan even though Fan was a holiday.

The initial in the morning shows is actually the biggest ever for a Shahid Kapoor or Alia Bhatt film although its actaully by default as the controversy has helped and the North opening as far as face value goes will be because of Diljit Dosanjh who has a bigger following there.

Basically it will be about sustaining over the weekend and the film will be through, normally these type of films would work by growth but here the opening means just holding at these levels will be enough.

The film has opened to outstanding reviews AND a great BO opening! Yaaasss!!!!!!!!

And all 4 leads are getting showered with praises. Looks like Shahid and Alia have given their career best performances and that Kareena & Diljit have been incredible in supporting leads. SO proud of all of them!!

Box office collection: Shahid's 'Udta Punjab' opens better than Akshay's 'Housefull 3'

The censor board controversy surrounding "Udta Punjab" has worked in its favour. "Udta Punjab," starring Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh, opened to good occupancy across India on Friday.

In fact, the opening day occupancy of "Udta Punjab" is better than Akshay Kumar's "Housefull 3" in the entire Northern region. Generally, a movie starts on an average note and then the occupancy picks up post afternoon shows. But in the case of "Udta Punjab" the film recorded good occupancy from the morning shows itself.

Movie critic and trade analyst Kamaal R Khan (KRK) tweeted about the same and said that the film is set for a good opening day box office collection. "Film #UdtaPunjab has got a better opening than #Housefull3 in the entire north region. So producers can smile," KRK tweeted.

Abhishek Chaubey's directorial film is about the issue of drug trafficking in Punjab. The film has been in the limelight after its trailer release. Initially, Alia was slammed on Twitter for portraying the character of a Bihari migrant. Later, the Central Board of Film Certification demanded over 94 cuts in the film, for which they were trolled on social media. The makers later approached the Bombay High Court for the film's clearance.

After the court passed the film with just one cut, a censor copy got leaked online just before the film's release. However, trade analysts believe that the leak will not hamper the box office collection of the film.

"I am of the opinion that it will hardly affect the film. Maybe there will be a marginal effect of it. People who want to watch it in theatres will still watch it there and people who want to watch it online, they will definitely watch it online, irrespective of when the film is leaked," leading exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi told DNA.

Looks like the critics are liking the film. Also, all 4 of them seem to have done a good job but Alia and Diljeet are being praised unanimously.

So all leaked saga leads to good opening.now jakey can take deep breaths 🥳 Shahid needed a hit after that shandaar.
I read diljit kareena alia gets the most priases n Shahid too.
